Fin[/QUOTE]Great report. And thanks, brought back memories of times in Jakarta (97-2002) when there were a bunch of interesting dangdut bars. Bintang in Blok M, Pangheghar and Sinagar at the Tebet / Pasar Rumput area, a big bunch on Daan Mogot plus half a dozen at Blora. Most of them seem to have withered away, the last two times in Jakarta I didn't even bother to look around.
From a quick google search looks like the scene is still pretty low key. Will check out Skorpion and the Blora area, also saw one called Istana Dangdut in Angke and one at the Mega Matra Hotel. If anyone knows of others and can recommend, thanks in advance; planning to visit this week + weekend.

Cheers[/QUOTE]Hi Freque. There are bars aplenty near that hotel, but I'm not a Kemang expert. You are, however, within a short taxi ride from Blok M. In Jakarta,"short taxi ride" is a relative description, because traffic jams are common. It might, for example, take 45 minutes or more to get from that location (the Fav Hotel) to Blok M (I'm not totally ignorant of Kemang). Also, the street where Fav Hotel is located is one-way, if my memory serves me, and that can add minutes to a return taxi ride. Good luck! TTG

RL[/QUOTE]Depends on the time of day and which day it is. At 5pm on a Friday, it could take almost 2 hours to get to Blok M from there.
I post 4 or 5 pictures of knock-out women posing nude, with nary a comment. But mention TRAFFIC in Jakarta and the comments roll out! LOL, that's our fair city.
Has anyone had experience around the National Monument area? I'm visiting next week and think that this may be an alternative haunt to the usual bar scene, or even a daytime excursion. Any insights welcome!

Due to its central location and relative convenience to the north (Hotel Classic / Terminal) and clubs that aren't too too far (BATS / CJs) at least at night when traffic eases slightly. Wasn't thinking of the location in these terms however, just as a convenient "base" to explore nightlife both to the north and south.

Cheers[/QUOTE]Kemang has mainly normal bars barring maybe Eastern Promise (I'm not sure I got the name right) which a friend told me might have possibilities. OTOH if you're in the dating scene, it's quite often easier to meet up with the girls in Kemang. Food abounds within walking distance, and the alcohol is a lot cheaper than the hotel bars by a country mile. If you're younger and decent looking, you can do well in Kemang. Otherwise Blok M isn't far but as the others said, it does depend on the time of day. Of course since the Blok M bars only really get started very late (go well after 11pm IMHO) I don't think you'll get hit with the traffic quite so badly unless it gets flooded. Since you're going to be having work in Bogor, I guess you'll be used to sitting in a taxi for a long time. For massage places, there are a range of massage places in Grand Wijaya (not far from Blok M either) which cater to a variety of massage and "other needs".

I have regular meetings in Bogor and I always use them as an excuse to stay in Kota or Pasar Baru (Gambir Station). The reason being is that there are very good air conditioned trains up to 4 per hour at these stations that run to Bogor Station in just over an hour without traffic jams. Most of the action is around these rail stations in the Centre and North of Jakarta.
You'll get a flavour of Jakarta around Kota, whereas Kemang has turned itself into a pretty mundane stockbroker belt type suburb. If you were attracted to the Fave Kemang because of the roof-top pool. It's soaked in chlorine. But having aired my thoughts. Girls can be found anywhere in Jakarta as I recently picked one up on her way home from work at the bus stop near that Fave Hotel in Kemang.
