I used to walk or ride my bike from Soi 2 to Soi 4 that way all the time. The snicket right next to Fitzgeralds, I mean. And the Maison Hotel driveway alternative. But that gate next to Fitzgeralds has been closed and locked in the evening quite often lately so I rarely bother giving it a try from Soi 2.
I would say the Shama and Maison Hotel properties are on to what many of us want to do and do not want to become the constant go-to stroll for punters and their Nana Plaza or Soi 4 honeys to and from the other hotels or apartments on Soi 2.
Very interesting followup. Kudos to Khun Tooms for reporting on the latest ground truth.
For my next holiday I've booked the Citrus Suites on Soi 6 instead of the Shama. From Nana Entertainment Plaza it's a bit more distant than the Shama. But if the snicket is closed the walk to the Citrus Suites might be shorter than hoofing it around the block to reach the Shama.

That hotel is maybe a 5 minute walk to the same Fitzgeralds Irish Pub the previously discussed snicket led to on Soi 4 from Soi 2.
I had tried earlier to post a photo of a sign on the final gate from that previously discussed snicket / passage through from the Shama Serviced Apartments to Soi 4 right there at Fitzgeralds. But for whatever reason it would not post at that time. I will try again now. If it doesn't post I will just say the sign states that tall gate is closed and locked at 8 pm every night until 6 am. I believe the only reason it remains open during the day is to allow access to the brainwake cafe located just inside that gate, which is open from 7 am to 7 pm every day.
Too bad, too. That little snicket had been. A convenient short cut from that portion of Soi 4 to the McDonalds, Starbucks, Villa Market and other hotels on Soi 2 day and night for a long time. Now it is only accessible between 6 am and 8 pm.
Yes, I see in the Preview Report option that pic of the sign is not posting. Weird.

The prices go up and down. With Night, I've always used Agoda or Expedia or Hotels or Booking, etc. For me, calling Night direct has always resulted in the highest price offered, I found the same thing when I used to use Radisson on Soi 13. For some other hotels it is cheaper to call direct. Sometimes Agoda has best deal, sometimes Expedia, etc. I tend to buy refundable reservations many months in advance and then keep an eye on current offers; it's not uncommon for me to cancel and rebook at lower cost as my trip gets closer. I suppose this concept works with all hotels, not just Night. For this concept of cancelling and rebooking, I've found Agoda website to be the easiest.
For those looking around Silom Patpong, I recently stayed at a new Japanese hotel, Nishitetsu Croom. Basically brand new rooms. Has a parking lot so easy for Grab pickup. Literally right beside Thaniya Road. Donki a block away. Dusit Central Park mall a 5 minute walk on the sky bridge.
Would definitely recommend it but it's not for those on a budget.
Night hotel is always a solid choice. Fantastic staff. Clean rooms. Near Thermae. Cheaper than Sofitel and S15. As mentioned, Night Hotels rates seem to vary greatly.
I do not understand it: If I book online, where they are paying fees to the agency (booking, Agoda, etc.) is about 20-25% cheaper than direct at the front desk where they get cash. Many times when I extended my stay I rather did it on line, after asking, because was cheaper. Same thing goes on in the Philippines also.
I don't think is the same as airfare where the agencies consolidate the prices by buying in bulk. It must be one of the great unsolved mysteries of SEA.
Few days ago I extended my stay in Chumphon in a cheap uninhabited hotel, cash was 600/ day and online I paid total 700 for 2 days, almost double the online rate.

I wonder are tourist numbers still way down and the Agents are trying to shift stock for cashflow. It's regarded as 'High season' now isn't it? I left in October but a few girls were telling me visitor numbers in BKK in particular had been way down for most of 2025.

The owners of hotels, restaurants, massage shops, tourist trinket shops, and bars are singing the blues. One restaurant owner told me that business was slower in summer 2025 than through the worst of COVID. Numbers are higher now, but not close to expectations.

1) you book a hotel for 5 days they charge you £50 / night.
2) OTA promises them 100 nights booking over the year, they pay £40 a night and charge you £45.

I was regular visitor of Koh Phangan, until last year. But price for accomodation etc. Went up too high for me, so I switched to Koh Rong this year.
Only disadvantage: No ladies.

Not many facilities as well, I'the rather stay in Ibis Styles opposite which is much more airy, fantastic rooftop pool and bar. Better gym, airy v nice design also with own carpark.

What I've noticed in my corner of Samui is that the low end hotels are empty while the moderately priced beachfront resorts are doing well (2,500 to 4,500 per night). The upper end places (over 5000 per night) are unknown to me, I don't stay there and don't have friends in those places. But based on my beachfront walks, those upper end resorts don't appear full. The upper end restaurants are very low on customers. The upper end bars seem to be doing very well with couples, sometimes every table is occupied.
The girl bars are extremely low on customers, even the ones with available attractive girls (the ones with only unattractive girls seldom have customers). Probably because Samui is becoming a couples destination, punters are going elsewhere.
My guess is the low end tourists are far fewer than other years, perhaps they are in Vietnam or other low budget destinations. The moderate budget tourists still seem to be here. I don't know if this trend is typical of overall Thailand.
I just came back from a tour of Vietnam and Thailand.
Hostess bars and massages in Little Tokyo and LE Thanh Ton had virtually no customers, no foreigners and only very few workers were walking the alleys. The mamasan at Linh Cherry quoted 1 Mil dong (40) for a hot girl among about 10 girls sitting outside, but would not confirm duration and services, showing pissy attitudes. We suspected additional tip would add up to $100 for a quickie so we passed.
Bui Vien traffic was way down. About 10 hot street girls in hot party dresses were on the street late one night. Most wanted 2 Mil dong or $80 for ST boom boom. A very hot, slim, tall girl quoted 3 Mil but she only spoke a few words and was likely a trannie. A few obvious trannies were fighting, crying, causing dramas in that intersection. Other cheap venues for locals were also very quiet. The Karaoke bars had only below average-looking women, $2. 50 beers for guys and girls, $20 per hour room charge, 600 K min tip for each girl. The girls can knock down beers very fast. 3 guys sitting with 4 girls costed $400 total for an hour drinking, singing and some light groping, no sex. Karaoke bars are the worst stupid rip offs, should be avoided like snake pits.
Traffic in Nana Plaza was about half of that in my last visit in Feb 2025. Butterflies had a few women with beautiful bodies, the rest thick and homely. Bought a $7 drink for hot woman in mid 30's, real liquor, not Saigon tea. She hung with me for about 10 minutes, was pretty, sweet and sexy. Got a few quick gropes of boobs and crotch, all seemed natural hehehe.
Bangkok's sex scene is open and lively. Vietnam's sex scene is all underground, very difficult to navigate for foreigners. Sex tourism seems to be down in many places in 2025, including Tijuana, the busiest border crossing in the world.
One popular theory about missing tourists is that vacationing in Vietnam is less expensive.
I did look at holidaying in Vietnam, but got the impression that the beach resorts were full of Chinese people. Think I will be staying with the land of smiles.
I have Diamond VIP status with Agoda, get alleged discounts booking room with them. Booking sites have lower contract rates with hotels, but can be blocked out during busy periods. Agoda is probably the strongest hotel booking site in Asia with the lowest rates for rooms of all sizes.
In Vietnam I booked a single room at the small 3-star boutique hotel Noble Swan New World near Ben Thanh market for $12, compared to New World hotel's $250 single room half a block away with a large, empty, useless lobby, lots of walking just to get to the room. There are about 50 small hotels in that area, not all are good. A25, Noble Swan, A&A Toronto are 3-star, nice, clean, quiet, convenient with good, free breakfast and strong coffee in the morning. They all have ST hourly rates BTW.
Anyway Agoda quickly confirmed a single room at Noble Swan, charged my credit card, then within 15 minutes came back with cancelation. I tried to book directly with the hotel; it said no vacancy. I walked in the hotel, showed the girl at reception the Agoda's old confirmed booking; she quickly gave me the big suite. I stayed in that suite 3 nights with the $12 single room rate hehehe.
