Before they came about five years ago, gringos were well-liked in general. But now locals tend to think that all foreigners are like them and homeless. My buddy who talked to them told me that they are retired / fired plumbers, janitors, restaurant workers, etc. Several locals are angry with the guy with sunglasses. Some of these guys have been arrested. I see other foreigners are avoiding them.

It is common to call it a Masters or a Graduate Degree or a Doctorate or a PhD. Nobody calls it an advanced degree in the states. That sounds like some certificate program online or someone with a high school diploma who studied in a trade. You are so very wrong on this take. And clearly you don't have an advanced degree as you like to call it, or you would know this, and also you would be less surprised that someone could obtain one. Graduate Degrees are a dime a dozen in the USA. Not a big deal.
