How is the rain situation in Bangkok right now, I know it is rainy season, but does it mean people are off the streets? Is Bangkok still happening at night, even with all the rain?
Also, I am a world cup fan, can you see the games in Thailand, they must be lat at night around 1 / 2 am? Any bars open for the matches, I am especially interested to watch the final live on July 9 at 1am Bangkok time?

I am hearby declaring a moratorium on world cup watching while I am here. Besides the fact that the officiating is increasingly making this event a travesty (witness the Port-Ned game and the end of the Aust-Ita one) and not worth watching, it's taking away from valuable mongering time. With Bangkok's early closing time I barely had an hour last night after the end of the match. Now, I could have taken someone from Giotto's but my top choices were all occupied.
And Fun Pete, the answer is yes, Bangkok is still happening. But the early closing time is definitely still on. Maybe some bars will still be open, but I didn't see any after 1 am. The only place for me to watch the Switzerland-Ukraine game was in my room, not that I'm much interested anymore in watching this event that barely has more credibility than pro wrestling.
Another point I have to make is to always be alert. I did manage to find someone in Soi Cowboy but then she started playing games with the barfine. I had 500 baht change coming back to me and she claimed that she already gave it. It was rubbish and I was able to prove it by showing the combinations of cash I had. I guess the girl thought I was drunk enough to be fooled but she was dead wrong. The bar and its owner were very professional and handled it well, so I won't mention their good name here. They returned the barfine in full and gave the girl a good talking to. This is my second instance of hijinks around the barfine or money for the girl. Always be alert and get things settled in advance.
Finally, Long Gun continues to be worth a visit to watch the girls put on the pole and stage show.

Hey as I said I was still learning, thats why I gave the story in the first place, but shit where do you get a good looking girl for 1000 baht long time? This girl only cost me 4000LT, so hardly 3x the going rate, and reading these boards 2-3k seems to be the norm LT. Actually this is the same girl I've written about in a few other threads, the little bit extra did make my next trip a little more enjoyable as I spent my time with her exclusivly and it was bloody great and didn't cost 4k per night after that. But all good things end and after about 6 months when she started to play the bargirl games on me, asking for money when I was home. Shit, I wouldn't think 3k was too much for LT, even after reading these boards, but yes anything more is starting to extend the friendship just a little by Bangkok standards. I was in the same bar where I meet this girl a few weeks back and this other girl was trying to get onto a friend I was with who is a very experianced Asian player. So i jump at the chance to have this gem stay with me for LT night after night S$200 (in Singapore). And this particular LT means 24 hours a day with no counting of pops or limits for pops. I'm a very happy guy in Singapore.
Now when i come to Bangkok and hook up with this same girl for several 24hr days, staying in her apartment, do i suddenly feel she is only worth the going local rate in Bangkok? No. Would i try that on? No. Am i worried about paying over the local odds? No. I give her something in line with what she has received from me before, and I'm a very happy guy in Bangkok!

I had a Thai girl that I met in HK. First night I gave her 1000 HK$ (5000 Baht) LT, then told her that I can't pay that every night, so we agreed that she would come over when she is free and I paid her 500 HK$ LT plus sometimes an extra tip (if she gets someone to pay 1000 or even 2000, which happens at times she should go for that). Now back in Bangkok, i had no problems giving her the same, because first of all 2500 Baht is not that much, and secondly she would drive me around in her car. And she was ok with that deal too. In your case I would offer her a Singapore ST price for LT, because a substantial amount of what she earns in SIN goes into the overheads. Thats the reason why SIN is more expensive. You also pay more rent for a room in SIN and HK than in BKK.
just back from a long trip to asia which included 6 nights in bangkok – the forum gave me great info before i went so here is my contribution based on experiences in bangkok:

I don't agree that it is really up to us to pay what we want, at the end of the day it is two people entering into a business contract so the price is what we BOTH agree to. The lady knows what she is worth, or should I say is willing to charge or accept, so I don't understand why if you ask how much they don't state a figure, ambit or otherwise to start negotiating rather than saying 'up to you'. I have a theory having been with a few, some could confirm but Thai bargirls (in particular) don't really think of themselves as prostitutes so maybe it is their way of tricking their own minds into thinking the customer is really giving them money as a gift and not for payment of sexual services.
