There's Fact, Then There's My Opinion!
Oh, really, well what about this post from less than six months ago written by someone using the name Helpmann. Quoted below:
The DR vs. Brazil: My 2 Cents.
I prefer the DR to Brazil. Nevertheless, with a few exceptions (laws/norms regarding prostitution and police corruption) I don't believe that there is really that big a difference between the two. If you're looking for flirtatious sexy morenas with thin bodies and round culos, you can find them in both countries. After that, it comes down to three things.
1) Do you have the talent and charm to spot and snare the hottie that's going to allow you to fuck her up the ass, slap her with your dick, and fuck her throat? Later handing her US$30 for 2 hours of sex and 4 hours of GFE (the lunch and laughs before the sex) as she grins from ear-to-ear, only for her to call you 30 minutes later, asking for more.
2) Do you speak the language and understand the culture (music, dance, people) well enough to charm this type of hottie?
3) All things being equal (#1 and #2,) is it convenient and cheap for you to travel to the country?
For me, when it comes to the DR, I can answer "YES" to #1, #2, and #3; however, when it comes to Brazil, I can't answer "YES" to a single one.
Yes, I can get laid in Brazil, but not like I can in the DR. I can't find an 18-year-old Brazilian girl, who's going to let me fuck her like her last Brazilian boyfriend. Yes, I may fuck her ass and yes, I may fuck her throat and slap her with my dick, but not for US$30 and not following 4-hours of GFE.
I don't speak Portuguese, I know very little about Brazilian culture, and it's a 10-hour, $800 direct flight away (3.5-hour, $400 direct flight to DR,) so when I cancel a free miles flight to Brazil, so I can return to the DR, it's because I've already been to Sugar Loaf.
Simple. I personally prefer to the DR to Brazil (I think most guys that read my posts know this.) Nevertheless, I'm probably in the minority when it comes to this opinion and below are the reasons why:
DOWNSIDE (DR):
1. Su-Th. clubs that serve alcohol are now legally obligated to close down at 12am. (Fr & Sa: 2am)
2. You will never find the professionalism of a Rio hooker. There are no reliable escort services in DR. Sexual services provided can vary drastically for different men, who use the the same girl.
3. Women not as sexually experienced (much less anal)
4. Sosua is an ugly city with an ugly beach.
5. No termas.
6. Many taxi drivers outside of Santo Domingo are cheats and thieves. A rental car is highly recommended.
UPSIDE (DR):
1. Some clubs seem to have a way of bypassing this law ("Mangu" in Playa Dorado stays open until 5am and "Playa Chiquita," a casino w/ a disco in Sosua, stays open until 4am.)
2. NO COUNTER. Who want's a pro providing GFE?
3. NO COUNTER. Just take it. Gazelles are passive and take what is given to them.
4. Cabarete and Boca Chica have good beaches. Bayahibe and Punta Cana have beautiful beaches; however, fewer women.
5. NO COUNTER. Santo Domingo does have massage parlors and wh0re houses, but nothing like 4x4.
6. NO COUNTER. Car rental's are $35-$80/day (depending on time of year and make.)
*7. If leaving from NYC, direct flights are 3.5 hours.
*8. North Coast lodging and food are cheaper than Rio. (ex. 2-bedroom villas w/ private pool for US$105.)
I'm not going to lie to a fellow single traveler and tell him that Sosua is just as beautiful as Rio and that what one can do in Rio is equivalent to what one can do in Sosua. That's Bull Shit! Nevertheless, for me, in the Dominican Republic:
1) I have the talent and charm to spot and snare the hottie that's going to allow you to fuck her up the ass, slap her with your dick, and fuck her throat? Later handing her US$30 for 2 hours of sex and 4 hours of GFE (the lunch and laughs before the sex) as she grins from ear-to-ear, only for her to call you 30 minutes later, asking for more.
2) I speak the language and understand the culture (music, dance, people) well enough to charm this type of hottie?
3) It's convenient and cheap for me to travel to the country?
BTW: My OP was only to inform on the differences and similarities between Sosua and Rio, not to slam Sosua or the Dominican Republic (which is how you've interpreted it.) The post was written in response to a PM I received from a frequent Rio traveler, who wanted to know the similarities and differences between the two cities. You shouldn't take it as a personal insult if one decides to comment on the only city your mongering experience is limited to.

To Be On The Safe Side...........
I think it is much better if you stay at home and jack off.
Rio and Sosua are boring, no girls, high prices and both dry towns (no drinking aloud in either). Watch this board for updates on when it might be safe to return to either.
Dude, You Can't Be That Dumb?
No, I was just amused that Helpmann's earlier post spoke about the huge advantages of being able to speak Spanish in the DR, but the more recent post opined that since most people in the US don't speak either Spanish or Portuguese, then it makes no difference...
There is an advantage to speaking the language of the country one is mongering in; however, most Americans don't speak a second language. Therefore, you'll find just as many Americans mongering in Europe, Asia, and South America.
You should have read an even earlier post where I state that if one can't speak the language one should head to Rio, "it's perfect for guys that only speak English." Nevertheless, most of the American tourists I meet don't speak Spanish and at best have 5 Spanish phrases on hand and can count to 1000.
I guess I could speak for myself and assume that everyone speaks Spanish, has easy access to direct flights out of JFK->SDQ, and has the "talent and charm to spot and snare the hottie that's going to allow you to fuck her up the ass, slap her with your dick, and fuck her throat." If I did, I would say, "EVERYONE COME TO BOCA CHICA, IT'S HEAVEN ON EARTH AND NOTHING BEATS IT." I doubt there would be many guys who would disagree with that.
BTW: I didn't make the mistake of posting a photo of your novia or something?? Was it "Fuck Puppet?"

And another thing about Rio...
April 11,2007 | RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Gov. Sergio Cabral Filho has formally requested that the army intervene to contain the violence that has been spiraling out of control in Rio de Janeiro.

The Foreign Language issue
i am well aware that most americans do not have a second language, due mainly to deficiencies in the education system, but it is not that hard to pick up a second operating system for your brain and there are many learning aids available on the internet.
this remark is a perverse misrepresentation of the truth.
the education system in europe emphasizes the study of foreign languages as a matter of necessicity. a german businessman would be hard pressed to be successful in his work with out a "working" command of english, french, russian, possibly dutch. this is due to the fact that the proximity of the european nations makes it significantly more likely that business will be conducted across borders than has traditionally been the case here in the usa.
for example - let's compare a businessman in st louis missouri with say one from munich germany. the businessman in st louis can engage in commerce with companies that are physically located 1500 miles east or west of his office and still be in the usa. business, still be conducted (for the most part) in english.
you travel 1500 miles either north, south, east or west from munich you will cross over into the countries of france, the united kingdom, belgium, netherlands, denmark, switzerland, italy, austria, poland, croatia, sweden, finland, former nations of the soviet union such as estonia, russia, albania, slovakia and serbia/montenegro.
learning foreign languages in europe is therefore, of much greater necessity than it is in the us. i would certainly suggest however, as business becomes increasingly global with every passing year - this will change. it already has.:)
anectdotally, i have found that for a group of people that you remark have a "superior education system", i have found that the german's that i have met in my numerous trips to the dr are sadly lacking in spanish! they try to get by down there by using their english but this doesn't serve them well - because the education system in the dr is grossly inadequate - and english is not widely spoken.
i translate and help out german tourists in the dr all the time when they have difficulty speaking with the locals. on my last trip, (last month) i helped a german tourist with his breakfast order and he thanked me. he then remarked that he thought it was funny that he needed my help, because he told me he "speaks 5 languages at %75 or more, but spanish isn't one of them"
he said, "spain is not a leading nation in the european business community and as such he never felt the need to learn the language"
to suggest that the entire american education system is lacking, solely due to the fact that europeans excel in foreign language skills is an obfurep001ion of the truth.
cheers my friends.......
