Minsk

I was in Minsk in September for 4 nights over a weekend. I had an awesome time. I spent a few nights at Bar Dot in the Hilton. That place is amazing. Pretty much most of the bar is filled with working girls. If you go here, you can not miss. People have said Rich Cat is also a great place but I had no luck. I could not figure out if a girl was working on just having fun. I am not really a nightclub person but I still had a great time dancing and meeting people even if I did end up going home alone. I was going back to Minsk again, but the way the world is right now, I won't get the chance.

As the economy is not so good most of the university students can be found using SA. They are very friendly and do like foreigner. Etc to start a basic conversation starter. Russian and Belarusian are similar languages so you can use your Google translator. In my view People in Belarus speak more English than for example Russia. During that time the country was devastated and wars caused a lot of poverty. Though the economy is not developed as other western countries like France or Germany but the people are still happy with conditions. The country earlier had the President who did all social security stuff like pension and all. If you rate poverty in terms of economy it may be poor. But it's not completely poor as you may think. Go to Minsk and you will find a bustling lifestyle. Plus their medical sector is very good. They have excellent health facilities.

Try to say a little Hello, or privet whenever you get a chance. Whenever you are in a shopping mall or a cafe try to smile a bit and start a normal conversation like how are you and what are your plans for the day and stuff like that. Remember if the girl is not working they will not pay much attention to you, but if she is a little adventurous, as they tend to do with the foreigners as compared to locals you will get the hints. Try to observe them closely and for some time before starting the conversation. Most of them do have BF or husband and that may prove tricky.

So I don't see the situation to change drastically unless a miracle happens and there is drop in cases or mortality. And you are absolutely right in your assessment that Minsk is Europe's best kept secrets. And of course there are other countries too.
