There are many, many people in Thailand living with HIV that you never hear about. There are many orphans from a parent, or parents, who died from AIDS. Also, there are many [i]HIV infected orphans[/i] who contracted it at birth from their deceased parents.
A few years ago, there was a report that middle class housewives were the faster growing group in Thailand contracting HIV. It seems their husbands were bringing it home after their nights out mongering around. Of course, this news died very quickly. Remember, prostitution is illegal in Thailand.

Good on you for sharing the experience. While there are a lot of hardened hookers out there on the street, a little bit of care and attention can lead you to someone like the one you met. I met the best girls on Suk although my hunting ground tends to be the street bars that start somewhere near Soi 5 and go on from there and I seldom make it as far as Thermae.
I usually look for the semi pro types - out to have fun and maybe a little help with the rent. You might ask, how can you tell? Well it is amazing what you can find out by just buying someone a drink and talking to them. If they are hardened hookers or work in a bar I mostly bail - it is amazing that they are so honest and will tell you just about everything about themselves, including sometimes about their experience with STDs! A place like Citadines on Soi 11, like Dextro Sol stayed in, costs around 2000 Baht a night, theres 2/3rd of your budget gone already. Maybe for a month stay you could get 1500 Baht. Even if you get a place for 1000 Baht a night thats 30K out of your budget right there. Then you figure most Bangkok Go-Go girls will want at least 1500 ST or 2000 LT, then factor in Barfines and drinks and the costs just keep going up. Unless of course you stick to freelancers, then you can probably get 1000 Baht ST, but in Bangkok I think 30 days of freelancers would not be the best plan, again maybe in Pattaya. Also IMHO 3000 LT for a girl from Thermae. Is too much, but thats just my opinion. Then taxi's, and food, and other ativities besides Mongering, it just seems that 93, 000 Baht for month is not enough, especillay with the dollar tanking. Is the fee to the girl only for casual company, and not bedroom company? Are the girls supposely higher up on the food chain than standard bar girls? I haven't really explored this area.

The hostess bar girls are dressed up prostititutes, the same as the lowliest streetwalker on the Suk, therefore at least one pop is expected for that kind of money.
Instead of dawdling until 2am, your friend should have become calm and assertive when it was time for bed. If she still insisted on leaving early, he should have handed her a 500 baht note and showed her the door. (IMHO, of course)

I have just finished a 2weeks mongering trip in Bangkok only. And this is the city I like to stay and enjoy in Thailand. Here You go. I stayed the entire 2 weeks in Majestic suites hotel and with pleasant staff and usual clean & nice room Single superior at 1570baht/night.
The main parts were visiting NEP. At night, the playskool and Hollywood bars were my favourite with much better views and sittings. Rainbows bars were pack as usual.
However, I was Not feeling comfortable with the envrionment in there. I BF. Several nights at the Playskool 600baht with a 1500baht ST.
The Soi Cowboy also on my list to visit in several nights.
The Shebas show was very interesting things to C.
I BF girl from Country road and had good times in there.
The girl was an older generation and only want 2000baht LT. So it was a deal.
The other parts which was my Favourites all time in BKK were MP'S. I only had the take out and 1 inhouse session in the Annie's MP. Nothing was special outstanding with Annie's girls this time.
The part I was always the most in Bangkok is real Thai MP.
Experiences. It was definitely awesome great time to enjoy visiting this type MP. And with a much higher cost than other tourist MP. Places.

If you are talking about Ave Bar in Suk 11, it is not an hostess bar but simply a beer bar. I have been some times in past years there and in Hillary Bar 3, that is just attached to it, because usually I stay in hotels in same street.
Last year the price for barfine + girl was 600 + 1000 ST. Quality low, but sometimes you can find something good for a quick shot. The price your friend payed is outrageously high and the 500 baht tip is outrageous too: the girl have to thanks me to gently pointing the door (and no money) without kicking her in the ass.

I was there a few weeks ago. Nice bar, very nice jazz music, accomodating owner and waitresses. But, not a hostess bar. Also almost no customers. I think owner's musical preferences don't resonate with the "usual suspects." Got same THB1500 offer, and I just laughed and said THB500, maybe, THB1500 no way. Waitress laughed too.
