You also had to analyze other people's writings and write reports on your observations and conclusions. When I was in high school I asked a lawyer what I should major in if I wanted to become a lawyer. He said English, because the job is more reading and writing than anything. I was just watching something the other day when the appellate court came out with a 93-page decision on the use of federal troops. Law school does not have time to teach English (not the spoken language, but the effective writing part of the subject). That is something you are expected to know before you get there. Might seem like a scam to you, but that is something that lawyers and judges and a myriad of other professions must know how to do. And it is not something you can teach yourself online for $300! (Nevermind that online did not exist when I was in undergrad. We were able to type our papers up using a DOS diskette, Word Perfect, and a dot matrix printer though. LOL.)

These private universities are allowed to charge 250 k for a social science or art literature degree. It should be regulated some how. The system of credentials to obtain employment is outdated and needs a remodel. If your going to be teaching French professionally, sure you need a degree. Same with being a lawyer. Especially a lawyer, we need the best people we have there. But some of these "McDonalds cookie cutter degrees" they are pumping out are way over priced.

I m embarrassed to say what I majored in and how much I was supposed to pay for it LOL, but a few years after school after being on the job hunt, I realized I had been scammed big time. Of course, I am responsible for that ultimately, but it was due to so many bull shit degrees being offered that they needed to fill the classes, to the fill the dorms, to fill the campus, to keep the lights on.

I am for a free market all day, but clearly the information you obtain from college is over priced and taking advantage of the consumer. As for the trades, I am just offering my best advice to any young guys out there reading this. The trades are paying big bucks and their is a huge amount of job security and demand. This was the exact opposite when I was younger and it was drilled into me from adults the trades pay little, don't guarantee work, and if you do work your foreman will work you to death and by the time your 50 your will be too broke down to work. Now that I am older, I know that is not true at all any more and it is actually the Universities which pump out so may useless degrees which offer no real world value other than industries that require a piece of paper to get hired. I work in one, I would know, trust me my degree has no real world value what so ever. My whole time in college was a total waste. But I needed that piece of paper to work the job I am in. It seems like a scam to me.

There are many important degrees however as I previously stated. I just think there should be some type of overhaul to eliminate the worthless degrees colleges are charging insane money for. How many basket weavers out there? Art degrees? Medevil lit? Yea they go a long way in today's economy LOL.

And I speak from experience. I am in a union, I think I pay 400 a month. Shit, I forget the exact number, I should know that. Anyway, yeah dude, in real life Unions are like the Mafia. They take those dues and bank it and use it to fund political campaigns. My union has done absolute shit for my industry since I have been hired. They basically eliminated our pensions, raised the retirement age and added 5 years of service. Then when you need a union, they play politics and start complaining to all the people you work with that you are inept at your job and a liability and you deserve to be fired for making a complaint to them. They form alliances with your superiors and they all work together to make sure the union reps do as little as possible and the boss has all the authority. Don't like it, they will find a way to fuck with you so much you will want to quit and they are sure to make examples of people every year. And those people who do get lawyers, if they win their case, it takes a decade. That is not an exaggeration. So better have money stored up for that court case, if it even makes to court. Play ball or go home.

Are all unions like that, I would guess not. Are unions still vital, of course they are. But in the real world, in high performance and high stress environments unions are shady as fuck.
