Cartagena Reports

Just returned from my 1st CTG trip. I've made many trips to Fidel's paradise island, but have been searching for a new venue since the change to the CUC. That 18% surcharge on the USD on top of all the other bullshit (transiting through the Bahamas and sweating US Customs upon returning) is forcing me to look for new hunting grounds. Wake up Fidel!!!

I had one non-pro who I met online prior to the trip and several pros /semi-pros from the beach in Laguito, on the street in Bocagrande & Centro and of course in LDV and Triplaterra. The most I paid was 100k for a hot little spinner from Triplaterra (very enthusiastic!) and as little as 40k for an afternoon delight with a beach chica. All in all I was impressed with the quality and selection.

After I booted my internet girl who's period "vino temprano", I met one chica in Mr. Babilla's my first free night out. I thought she had GFE potential, cute and she and her friend weren't even hitting me or my buddy up for drinks. She dragged me to Giro Matto for an hour where she was grinding on me and making out. She came home with me but asked for 150k prior to any sex. I tossed her out on her ass and went to sleep alone. She was down to 80k as I closed the door on her but it was late, I was drunk and if I wanted a puta I knew where to find one. Also, I never pay before sex. And I thought she liked me! LOL! Oh well, live and learn!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in CTG, but was a little disappointed in my inability to find any non-pro action. Now I don't mind paying when I have to, but I definitely prefer the GFE route when possible -- mas economico y mas intimo tambien! I'm in good shape and speak adequate spanish. Can anybody recommend any areas off the beaten path in CTG that aren't quite so lleno de putas? I heard about a place called Green Moon & another called Carumba. Has anybody been there or elswhere outside of the Laguito / Centro areas?

Several girls I've met come from that a way (like Monteria, Sincelejo etc). But just because THEY can pass without incident (they are DIRT POOR!) does NOT mean than you or I would be wise to pass through areas where the guerillas are quite active.

Thanks[/QUOTE]I have been to Green Moon. More of an local club that plays urban contemporary music (hip hop, reggae, reggaeton). You would be hard pressed to see another gringo in there. If you happen to be caucasian, you will stand out. However, that wont prevent you from having a good time if you can dance and enjoy the music.

I wouldnt call it a puta club, just a place locals go to have a good time. If you have some spanish language skills, you can score there.

I will be off to CTG in four days… This will be my first trip there and I cannot wait. I have done the RTFF thing going back about 18 months and I have to admit most of my questions have been answered and other folks on this thread an forum have also been very helpful and answered many questions. Only a few remain and I would appreciate any feedback on these. Here they go:

- How far is the Hilton from LDV and the Pleyboy club? Should I take a cab or can I just walk?

- No mention on this thread about the availability of performance enhancing vitamins V and C! Can they be bought at the pharmacy without prescription? Where could one get them otherwise in CTG?

- Is there a decent street map of Cartagena anywhere on-line? Better yet one with all the important places marked on it (like the ones you can find for Bangkok, BA, etc.). I haven’t been able to find one (even without the aforementioned markings :-)) at bookstores or libraries.

- I arrive at CTG at around 11 pm. Is it safe to get a taxi to the Hilton at that time or am I better off arranging for a pickup?

- I will be there a total of four days and five nights. Where is a good place to just hang out during the day and afternoon and people watch?

- Last one: How are the prices compared to the US? Is it recomemded to do any shopping in CTG for say, perfumes, brand name clothes and sportswear, etc.?

Hilton is about half a mile from LDV and both are located in the area called Laguito. Pleyboy club is about a 35 minute taxi ride from Hilton and LDV.

Viagra and Cialis are easily obtained without prescription from any pharmacy. Try the generic viagra, 50 mg for about $2 each.

Very few maps. try the internet with a google search. Realtor Paul Juan has a small map on his web site.

You should be safe at the airport at 11 pm. Remember Cartagena has the navy base and I would say it is probably the safest tourist destination in S.A. You read about murders in the newspaper, but most of these peope are local Colombians who have lived there all their life and pissed off the wrong person. I have taken taxis at all hours of the night to clubs, alone and with girls. You should ask up front about the fare, however, because they will try to overcharge if they can. Should be about 12,000 pesos to anywhere, at night.

Taxi drivers are trying to earn a living and would lose their job and livelihood if they committed a crime. However they all drive too fast, honk their horns too much and play their radios too loud. They want to have a good time and the testosterone makes them drive like maniacs. If they can overcharge you 10-20% they will, after all it is a profit motive and they see us as fat cash cows ripe for picking. This is not only in Colombia but in any country where the pussy is cheap. But outright theft or robbery is a crime and they would lose their job.

I recommend the main street in Boca Grande or Laguito. There is alot of young street action there, very good I might add, for about 40K pesos. I also like to hang out during the daytime at the Hilton hotel pool. Just walk in the front door and go thru to the back. Never have I been challenged except once when I tried to get a towel and was asked for a room number.

What is the Hilton going for a night? Last time I asked it was about $125 or more incl. breakfast, a night. I recommend you try the Hilton for a day or two and then stay in an apartment for about $50-70 a night. Mery has her email address in this Cart. thread somewhere and she rents apartments close to the Hilton for $60 or so. Much easier to get girls in your room and more private. Less price.

The prices are not much lower than in the US except for pussy. There are high fashion shops in Boca grande where you can buy things at Tommy HIlfinger or Polo shops for more than in the US. There are alot of vendors selling junk T shirts, sunglasses, etc. in the daytime, especially on the beach. You must ignore them or they will drive you crazy and you will come close to punching them out. I try to stay in Cart. for only a few days at a time so I do not get irritated too much. Sometimes I just ignore them, other times I play with them and try to sell them my sun glasses for an exorbitant price.

I'm considering a trip to Cartagena in Jan or Feb for 2 weeks. I've been to Cuba numerous times, Mexico & the DR but not too many other places. I can either get an air only deal on a charter on an all inclusive for not much more. I know I wont be able to bring chicas into the AI. I read through a lot of posts here and I know most people say apts are the way to go. If I go AI, are there places to get some action during the day? If I meet a girl on the beach or in the old city is she going to have a place to go? I read that there aren't any mp's. What do you guys think about going in with a place booked for one night and just finding an apt while there. I might want to stay in the old city part of the time and the beach another part, maybe even a few days in Baranquilla (sp?). I'm sure all the touts are a pain in the ass but I think I'd find a cheaper apt while I'm there than ahead of time - also I'll know where I want to be. I'm much more into the beach/semi-pro action than the clubs.

I wouldn't go just for the pussy, there has to be more. I'm not thrilled with the reports on the quality of the beach but the walled city sounds interesting and I could go on a couple of island day trips.

I might go to Margarita Island, Venezuela instead. I went there last year. I thought it was really good for the tourist stuff - but the girls were dissapointing. If I go there again I'll have to figure out how to run an ad in the paper before I get there. Cuba is incredible for girls, but I've been there lots of times and I want to go somewhere else this winter. Budget is a concern, and the charters are pretty affordable from Canada.

I cannot stress enough that the AI is NOT the way to go. Get an apartment !
You will be more comfortable and have a place to bring your daytime and nighttime chicas to. Why waste time and money on by the hour rooms when you can bang your chica in the comfort of your own apt. Make sure you have the fridge stocked with booze and see how a ST chica becomes TLN.

As for the nearby islands such as the Rosarios, you certainly can stay there for a night or two, I would recommend bringing some proven talent with you.

As for Margarita, I been toying with the idea of taking one of my regulars over there for a break.

I booked Hilton for $115 about three weeks ago (not sure whether it includes breakfast). Interestingly enough, on the same day, Hilton's own website was quoting the same type room for $215. I booked through Orbitz.

I plan to do exactly that: I expect to walk around and check out the apts and get one for the remaining three days.

Pretty good summary, Y & R. I'll just add my thoughts.

Discos -
Giro Matto is the only real late night spot (after 2am). But there's really not much to recommend it IMO. Don't worry if you never get there. Best strategy is to have your girl chosen by around 1:30am or so. LDV is really the standout place in Cartagena for pros.

Remember that non-pro nightlife even in big cities in Colombia is good on Fridays and Saturdays, marginal on Thursdays and Sundays, and really no good the rest of the week.

Avoid - all guides.

closes at 3:00 am. If you are still looking around 4:00am, stand around outside of Giro Matto. There is a 10K cover. The chicas wait for someone to pay for them or to hook up.

The idea of looking for an apartment while you are there is very good.

Often better than Saturday, ESPECIALLY if it is a puente. So I gotta disagree with Cachorro (though I agree Sunday nights are deadsville). Maybe Cartagena is different, especially Laguito (which is NOT the real Colombia IMHO). I like it mind you, but it is DEFINITELY a different scene than anywhere else in the country.

LDV is great every night of the week. Starts about 11 pm. Best time is midnight. ONly closed on religious holidays. Closed for 2 days around ash wednesday and closed some of the week during Easter. Of course all night clubs that serve alcohol are closed also on these days. You can always try the ***** house behind Pleyboy club on religous holidays because they do not serve alcohol. Enjoy.
