I was in Suk Soi 12 to check out Darling which was closed down.

There was a girl motorcycle driver stationed there. She would love to acquire a Farang boyfriend, but probably a genuine one. Started bargaining and got her final price for 3000 baht, 800 bar fine and agreed to come to my hotel which was barely 5 minutes walk from Soi Cowboy. Name of the girl was Ora, English was decent enough to talk and understand. After reaching hotel had shower and then moved to bed. As per typical Thai she was petite, smooth skin and long black brown hair. Within the bed everything was mechanical and time on spot like - 10 minutes of foreplay (No DFK). 10 minutes of BJ, then WOT followed by missionary and finally doggy. All the deed was done in 1 hour. Had shower together and she started dressing up. I had whole another hour left. But as per her, short time includes only 1 shot and for another shot I need to pay 2000 baht extra. So not necessary to buy mamasan a drink at all unless you like her and you want it to become a habit.

Most experienced guys here would bail out as soon as the rip off scams started re 5000 and the room for 800. Fortunately you got to a better deal, where a lot of guys would just not bother, and bail out, expecting that the girl is not likely to be great. I normally take a lot more than 10 minutes talk to decide if I really want a girl, but that is just me. I am very untrusting of new girls till I am sure the chemistry is good. However I am different because I am quite willing to miss out altogether, and as a new guy you don't want to go unfucked.

Some bars have a small number of girls pricing themselves at 2000 Baht, but I don't think it is so easy to find them, unless the girl is clearly a plain looker. 3000 should be the maximum for ST for in demand type girls, that can afford to be choosey. Should be possible to get girls for 2500 without too much problem in some bars, and sometimes even 2000. I don't know anything about girls asking for 5000. Probably does not happen to me, because I speak Thai.

You can get girls off the street in Soi 4 of Sukhumvit for 1000 to 1500 Baht, depending on how good they look, but you won't get 2 hours for that. I hour maximum. They may not perform that super either.

The price that girls will go depends on their looks, how in demand they are, and whether they like your attitude. Unpopular girls can be got for less, provided they are realistic.

I can usually get a girl to come to me for a drink without involving other staff. If I catch her eye, I simply use my hand to make a glass tipping drinking motion, which suggests a drink. If cannot catch her eye, especially in a busy bar like Bacarra, you can simply leave your seat and walk right up to her and say straight off you will buy her a drink. Then she will probably give some signal of agreement if she is available, and then come to your seat when able. She can say no if she is already taken, and occasionally, you find a girl that does not respond at all, perhaps too shy to say no, but probably means she will not come. This last case normally happens when the girl has a specific target fish (guy), but has not yet landed him for certain, so her brain is in a quandary. You loose some, you find another.

Some shy girls stare into space and never look directly at all the customers to check who is interested. Some girls get flustered when 5 different guys are all wanting to buy her a drink at the same time. The fast acting guy may win, or the regular customer may win.

Thai Girls and Thai Language.

Most Thai girls don't use a huge vocab in the Thai language, particularly if they are actually Issan girls. Chances are their schooling wasn't that high.

So I find my Thai vocab of around 4000 words reasonably well understood, is sufficient for normal communication. However I was watching Thai television, and find the Thai News somewhat more difficult to follow, perhaps understanding 80% of words but also struggling with the pace. The vocab used includes lots of official words not used in everyday conversation. You have not got time to stop, think, and translate.

Last night tried to watch some episodes of the Good Wife dubbed into Thai. This was a real struggle, due to fast pace and high vocab English translated into Thai, plus strange accents of the people used for dubbing. They tend to speak not exactly Thai style. I am not happy. I am faced with the daunting task to do vocab flashcards everyday to try to get my understood words up to maybe close to 8000, perhaps need to read Thai Newspaper regularly, and also, need to watch these programs to get used to very fast paced speaking. In contrast I found some old porn videos with German speaking much easier to understand, even though my German is far weaker than my Thai. LOL. The speaking was nice and slow and very simple Vocab used. Day to day talk.

So being fluent in Thai only to standard of a 6 to 8 year old kid, is not satisfying. Purely enough to get by. My Issan Vocab is very low so that also needs work. 15 YO step daughter clearly speaks Thai a lot more advanced than me.

Mastering a language is such a lot of hard work, and then our accent will always be strange and tone mistakes frequent. For those wanting to improve there Thai comprehension, I recommend watching some Thai Soap Lakhorn series, if can stand their somewhat inane nature, but contain simple conversation. Thais call them "naam nao" (meaning putrid water). Maybe some variety shows might be easier to tolerate. One program called "This is Morchit" I find slow paced but watchable because the host "Sanyaa" is a very likeable guy (does not talk too much), and the hostess is pretty. Some news programs also tolerable. Game shows normally too silly for me. My favorite Thai girl Gik, when with me, hates Thai channels so she makes me change to a Farang channel. She could watch the Good Wife dubbed into Thai. If in English, she would probably struggle to fully understand. Hardly surprising she never had a Thai man in her life, at all.

When my Thai is similar standard to the girl's English, we end up speaking a mixture of Thai and English, depending which language seems best at the time. However most P4 P girls don't have really good English.

I hear plenty of Farangs in the pub speaking Thai, however most sound funny. We all sound funny I guess, with accent obviously there.

For anyone with a very small amount of Thai language knowledge, the way to improve it is spend time with Thai girls that have no English, preferably take them on holiday with you. Be armed with a "Thai-English English-Thai Talking Dictionary" (by Paiboon and Word in the Hand) on smart phone. The best little book I ever had in my early days was Robertson's Practical English- Thai Dictionary. It is oriented to simple phrases or clauses rather than single words. Not comprehensive but covers a lot of important basics. Never seen anything else like it. Single English words have multiple meanings. Single Thai words have multiple meanings also. Therefore books translating single words do not work.

Everyone needs a proper teacher in earliest stages to get pronunciation corrected. Don't want to learn it all wrong.

My biggest frustration in early days, was knowing what I want to say, but not knowing best way to say it in Thai, or how would a Thai person say it. To say something to a girl like "when I stroke your skin, it feels so smooth and nice" was such a challenge. Much harder than to say "I am hungry". "I need to sleep", etc.

The girl which I took couple days back recognized me and tried to push me for another ST. However I just was not interested in repeating same one again. Just started walking out off the club after finishing my beer and two more girls immediately jumped in. They didn't approach me till I was with the previous girl. I decided to wait and went back in corner area which was much dark and away from attention. One of the girl started asking for lady drink. I order two and this time Mamasan brought the drink and started asking for tips after paying for lady drinks. I simply left 10 baht coin in the cup and promised to pay for girl which I can take back for ST. She agreed and walked off. Firstly the cost of lady drink varies a lot. As high as 200 Baht in some bars and rarely as low as 140 Baht. 170 might be typical. The customer drink could well cost less. The lady typically gets less than half the cost of a lady drink. So if the price is 200 Baht in Suzie Wong, I would be very surprised in the girl gets 100 Baht. Might be 60 Baht or 80 Baht.

Some bars have happy hour when drinks cost less.

You have to understand that the way the bar makes money is to sell drinks. So guys that sit on a single water all night are useless waste of space customers. Even more so, if unwilling to buy any lady drinks. A lady will not sit with you if you do not buy her drinks, simply because it is her job to get customers to buy drinks for her.

Now we come to the subtle part. You can keep her drinks to a reasonable minimum such as 1 drink per 40 minutes, and give her a good tip afterwards. She will certainly get far more by receiving 200 Baht directly than from buying her a single drink.

It is better not to buy drinks for any other staff, unless you want them to sit with you as well, and keep asking for more drinks.

Buying Ping Pong balls to throw around, I think gives the girls a 50/50 split with the bar from commission they get per ball, however, then your money starts to be indiscriminately spread around the bar. So I don't play ping pong balls. Have even seen someone get injured in the mad rush to grab the balls flying around the bar.

You can try slipping a girl 100 baht notes, instead of buying her drinks, but I think management will probably tell her not to sit with you. If they see you are doing this to circumvent buying drinks, they may ask her to hand over the money. So I don't believe the management will accept everyone trying to buck the system. They may not ask you to leave as long as you keep buying drinks. If you go too long without buying any more drinks, perhaps you could be asked to leave. I am not too sure what they tolerate, and depends on the bar. If bar is short of available seats, they won't appreciate waste of time customers.

So I believe a girl will not sit with a customer not buying her drinks, because she will be ostracized for doing that. So her time with you should run out quickly if she has not got a drink.

Indians especially may be told the club is members only, if there is a suspicion that they might want almost free entertainment by sitting on a drink all night. Guys from that country seem to have the worst reputation for being not willing to part with any money, and wanting a free ride. Maybe an unfair reputation.

I know some bars provide no viable entertainment at all. In that case it is best not to sit in those clubs for long.

My drinks buying varies a lot. If no girls are interesting me, my Soda can last quite a while at low cost. If I "entertain" a girl or two, it is going to cost me, however that is fair because I am less bored. I don't buy girls two drinks at a time unless she is simply amazing, and I want to get her out of there very quickly and get to the bed. However there is a girl I will buy a drink for, simply because she is my friend, even I won't be fucking her.

If girls entertain customers, but fail to sell enough drinks, they could easily be told not to come back to work any more. I. e. They are cheating the bar. They are just not doing their job.

The bar also makes money fro barfines, but selling drinks remains very important. They expect the average customers' drinks bill to be higher than their barfine bill, at least in bars I have been in. Even when my bill is very low, since in that case, it has no BF component. The waiting staff have to get paid for somehow.

I usually reward those girls at the end of the night with a 200 baht tip or whatever change I have coming back to me. Girls make 50 baht per drink in most places. Other places have quotas the girl must make for the night. So really if you order 1 lady drink for a girl and tip her 200 baht after 2 hours then she made the equivalent of 5 drinks which is a pretty decent pace for most girls. Some bars don't allow this with pushy waitresses and mamasans. If the waitress is friendly and cute I may also tip the waitress 100 baht too to go along with this. Remember, in Thailand any tip money left in the folder goes to the bar. Any money you take out of the folder and give directly to the waitress goes to the waitress.

edit - I'm reading Syzy's post now. I basically said what he said. Girls are all for the tip at the end as long as they're not on a drink minimum quota getting a weekly salary.
