Agora Mall and Blue Mall, Santo Domingo
Photos taken Monday February 11, 2013, approximately 11am. Both Malls have secure parking. For Blue Mall when I drove my car into the parking lot, I was given a small plastic token, which I presented to a cashier near the parking area when I was going to exit the mall. For Agora Mall I was given a small piece of paper, I don't remember paying anything for parking that day.
Agora Mall is on Avenida Kennedy and Avenida Lincoln. Blue Mall is on Avenida Churchill. Various banks and western union in one or both malls. Several different lingerie shops in both malls. Definitely some attractive women working at some of the shops.
Blue Mall has an outdoor balcony where you can sit and eat. Illy Italian coffee available to drink at Blue Mall. Johnnie Walker Whisky booth under the JW Marriott sign at the Blue Mall.
I have been offered the same
I had several women offer me the homes sight unseen. This is shocking to us Americans. I think they figure they have a rich guy in the house who will buy food and spend money. If you are in their house you will not bang other chicks.
Airbnb lists some short term apartment rentals that are shared with their owners. Some people pack light and don't take a lot of valuables. There are apartments that sell for over $1 million dollars (US) in santo domingo and others that rent out for more than $10k (US) per month. Any chica who offers her apartment to stay at, is also taking a chance inviting a stranger into her house.
You could always tell her you want to see the place first, nothing personal.
I visited an apartment with Revere of a chica I have known for many years, she shares her apartment with an amiga (it is actually the entire second floor of a two floor house in santo domingo este). I wouldn't have a problem sleeping there.
I've done it without problems
I just want to ask to fellow mongers about this situation;
I meet this chick on Dominican Cupid and after few days of talking (less than a week) I told her I was going to go to SD and she asked where I was going to stay.
And I told her what hotel. And out of the blue she offered to stay at her apartment.
What do you think?
Ask her what is the name of the neighborhood where she lives and post it here. I know most of the locations in SD and can tell you if the neighboorhood is safe.
Ask her who does she live with, if it's her male cousin or brother don't do it.
I've not been to anyone's house or apartment in SD that has hot water, even people well off. Right now you don't need air at night to sleep, she will most likely have a fan, but the mosquitos do bite.
Do you speak fluent spanish?
Are you white?
Don't bring anything of too much value.
Do dogs barking or roosters wake you up, every location I've ever been to has stray dogs and every neighbor has a damn chicken.
Be prepared to pay for every meal for everyone in the house (but it will be good and it will be cheap)
The lights go out often outside of the tourist areas and depending on where she lives can stay off for quite some time.
You will be wifed up during your stay, which has it's disadvantages and advantages.
Let her know you're leaving earlier than you actually are so you can get away or stay longer as you see fit.
Do not take her to the airport with you to say goodbye.
Anyone else have words of wisdom to add to this?
Looking for a driver from Santo Domingo to Boca Chica
I'm writing my report about my trip which went VERY well. But in the meantime does anyone have a driver they can recommend that can take me from Santiago to Boca Chica and will drive me around for a few days? Or would someone recommend me renting a car? Do the car rental places accept a debit card?
