Suggest not to judge "everyone" by their actions, much less follow their behavior playbook.

Most local Asian men behave to the saying "Don't sh1t where you eat". They keep thier private lives and mongering lives separate. As a foreigner, if you don't want to get known as a sex pest, you will have to use short time hotels. Unfortunately foreigners, especially whitey, stick out. And every condo, rooming house and serviced apartment will have some security and cleaning staff that will get to know your every coming and going. So if you sh1t where you eat, all the staff will know and they will label you. I would agree that Cambodians are more laid back, but IMHO they are more prudish, so if you are spotted with a lady you will likely be scrutinized. Some foreigner guys are oblivious to this because all the staff will still smile regardless. Some guys don't care because they have the big-swingin-farang-dick attitude.

You might relax a little as English teachers are considered pretty low in the expat pecking order. You aren't ever going to lose the role as keynote speaker at the Rotary Club or Chamber of Commerce. OTOH you can feel free to follow some of the cavalier advice below, but consider the risk if you ever get a reputation that spreads to your school (especially via students or parents), just be prepared when they don't extend (or worse, suddenly terminate) your employment contract. English teachers are not essential workers anywhere in Asia. Enjoy Cambodia, AR.

I am still just a little confused and surprised by the out and proud attitude about sex work in Phnom Penh. Especially since this is not a society which is really ok with sex outside marriage. And officially prostitution is illegal.

I don't feel very comfortable frequenting a bar which basically has a big neon sign over the entrance that says "GET YOUR SEX WORKER HERE". Who would go there except a tourist who is single, who doesn't know anyone in PP and is leaving in a week? Why can't they have some nice very discreet brothels tucked away in an apartment building or some reliable websites where I can click on a WhatsApp number and order a girl?

Here is a guess, and just a total guess. Could it be that men, like me, who live in PP find non-pro women at work, at a shop or a restaurant and develop a relationship? Possibly while helping her a bit financially, sort of sugar daddy style? I am reading that it is common place and more or less acceptable for Cambodian men to keep a discreet "step wife", meaning a younger mistress. Perhaps that's why they don't need escort websites.

You should remember that the main bar-girl streets are basically geared towards foreigners. Very few Khmer people (beyond those who work there as bar girls, food vendors, tuk-tuk drivers, etc) wander through those streets. That's why so many bar girls feel okay with sitting outside the bars, cat-calling potential customers; they don't think anyone they know will actually walk by. So it would be very doubtful if anyone you worked with would see you going into any of the bars. Most Khmers hang out in other areas, and the only time they're in that area now is due to the Chaktomuk Walk Street, where the main road along the river is closed down on weekend nights and turned into a big party area. That's actually been successful in bringing out a lot of local people, though again they rarely bother to get there through the 'bar streets. '.

I've gone back and forth to PP on some work trips for some different Cambodian organizations in the city, and hardly any of the Khmer people I became friends with would ever be caught dead in those riverside bar streets. 'For barang only," they'd say and roll their eyes. There's whole other areas of the city where they go to have fun.

For "playtime," most Khmer dudes will instead get their kicks by going to some of the many KTV's that are scattered across the city. They'll drink with their colleagues, flirt with the girls and fondle them, while the girls encourage them to drink more. And maybe they'll get their contact info to set up a side hustle later on. But that scene is only available to foreigners if they speak Khmer, understandably. There's also some local brothels around for Khmer guys, too, but I would skip them unless you enjoy 10 mins of sex on a dirt or cement floor with no air conditioning, and no shower afterwards, and a week's worth of worry about that rash you suddenly have.

Now, if you're bringing a girl home from the bars to your condo, it just depends if the condo has a doorman or not, and how aware of anything they are. Remember, wherever you will be staying, most doormen will have seen way way worse than whatever you are doing or bringing home. Just be friendly with them, get to know them, and they'll keep your secret, like any good doorman.

But what you'll need to worry about is the neighbors. In this case, most of them should be asleep when you come back at 1 am with your new best friend, but if your friend is staying the night and leaving the next morning, that's when everyone will be up. So you'll either need to have them leave on their own, so the neighbors don't realize they're with you (though they may guess), or, more to the point, just make sure she's not looking like a total 'ho when she leaves.

And that's the main thing. If you're bringing someone back to where you live, make sure they're not dressed like a hooker. Most bar girls have changes of clothes at the bar, so when they leave with you they'll be dressed appropriately. Remember, they don't want to deal with the walk of shame either. If they're still dressed like a $30 'ho when you leave, maybe it's time to rethink that choice.

To avoida all this, I would personally suggest taking your girl to a short-time hotel for your first encounter. If you like them and vet them and they seem like an actual normal person and not some doped-up floozy, then bring them back to your condo the next time. Plus, that way, they'll have a chance to dress more appropriately, and also be able to bring a change of clothes so they'll look more discreet.

Remember though that all this depends on where you're staying. PP is a big city, with a lot of anonymous condos, so you're fine if you're in one of those. But if you're in a smaller residential area where your students also live, then watch out. (This would be doubtful though, as most English schools will have students that are coming in from across the city).

During my trips, I've brought home several women to my hotel or condo, but most blend in somewhat. That said, at a hotel especially, all the doormen will know what's up when you show up with a random lady at 2 am, but they don't care. It's the next morning when the girls walk past the 'dayshift' at the hotel reception that's tough for the ladies at first.

Finally, a lot of the bar girls in PP can be relationship-worthy, and most are looking for that. So if you've relatively easy-going to talk with, respectful, and not too much of a troll, you should be okay even with developing a relationship with some of them, if that's what you want. So instead of having 6 women a week walking through your condo, you would just have one or two in awhile.

I am currently in Phnom Penh. Here's a brief report for what its worth.

This is my sixth visit.

I walked the usual streets, e. G, 130 136 etc, at 1 am on my first night. I was jetlagged and just wanted to check the talent. There are quite a few good looking girls seated in front of their bars. I stopped at one of my "go to" bars as I've known the MILF owner for a while. She immediately introduced me to a new girl. Very cute and petite. We sat and had a few drinks. I really wasn't in the mood to take a girl because of the jetlag. But the thought of sleeping next to this young and lithe body was too tempting. Not to mention it was her first night at the bar and her first bar job. So I took her home and have basically holiday-GF-ed her. She'll be with me for a week.

I enjoy holding her hand as we walk past European / Aussie couples. I'm an older gent and my girl looks like a teen. I am sure the Barang women are disgusted with me and the Barang men are jealous.

Regarding the landscape:

The Chakotkmuakmaamtat night market is fantastic for many reasons. It had made an unwalkable town, walkable. And there's a lot of talent walking around.

I have never seen so many old men cruising 136 130. I mean, very old. Bless their hearts. Life is short. Let's all check out happy.

Quite a few Indians and for the first time, I've seen them actually go in a bar. In the past they would just hang out on Riverside.

I stayed at Lux for two nights because my Airbnb was unavailable. The pics of the room look much better than the room in person. The breakfast is decent. The coffee is good. Eat all the eggs to your heart's desire. They serve French butter with bread! The front desk is lax. You can literally bring in gerbils, sheep, mountain goats. They never looked up when my girl and I walked by.

If you want to take a break, go see a movie at AEON 1 plus there's a ton of food options at the AEON store.

FWIW: the MILF bar owner said if I was seriously interested in the girl, she (MILF) would talk to the family. Like I said, I've known the MILF for a while. She is in her forties and very beautiful besides being 15 pounds overweight. She is still a looker and must've been a smoke show in her youth. I could take her to Koh Rong without a charge if I wanted. Very tempting.

Grab to town averages about 15.00. I used Grab, as the bus wasn't very reliable and doesn't run on the posted schedule.

Harmony Hotel on St. 148, Suite with Balcony Room. Definitely girlfriendly, but reception will collect girls ID card. Also, if you're book for a 2 occupant room you won't be charged a joiners fee. However, if you bring multiple girls to your room in a single day you may get charged 10.00 USD for the 2nd / 3rd visitor.

I like this hotel for it's location, comfortable beds and a better than average breakfast selection.

Posted short reports of my previous two trips. What shocked me this time. A few ladies on 136/130 were asking 150.00 USD for longtime / 80.00 for shorttime and wouldn't accept less. Yes, it could just be they didn't want to go with me (Asian). But my wingman (White American) was also quoted the same prices. On previous visits I've gotten 300.00 USD longtime request which quickly dropped to 100.00 USD (these left a bad taste in my mouth and I rejected them all even after the price drop, all except one that I just had to do). Don't flame me, I was drunk and horny and she was my perfect type. Obviously these are the Top 1% lookers in the early 20's age range that would actually go with customers.

Another observation, more of the girls you'd think were drink only girls were open to being barfined. So definitely ask the question. Safety Note: Ask, but be sure to verify their age.

Places to Eat. Highly recommend Metro and Sombak, but semi-highend places with great food at reasonable prices for what you get. Can not recommend the Hyatt Skybar, it's over priced and the view is just blah. Compas Riverside Mexican Food for their nachos and salsa, did take-home of this 3 of the 5 nights. Perfect midnite snack. Then there's the pizza truck / stall right across from Shanghi and Pontoon. Best pizza in Phnom Penh.

Oh, on this trip made it a point to visit Charlie Chan's. Was expecting higher prices. But that wasn't the case. 4 decent looking dancing girls on stage with 8-12 waiting for their turn on stage. Lot of the dancers looked very young, and didn't see any 9 or 10's there. Visited Shanghi on Sunday night, decent crowd and decent ladies. Then visited on Monday night. Place was dead. Both visits were after 11 pm. Visited Pontoon after around 1 am, place was packed and hopping (not my cup of tea, as I'm old) and selection was just average. Sorry, didn't see anything I liked. Thus no pricing info.

If you're a poker player, Naga Poker Room is pretty good for Asia. Good dealers and room boss. Generally, 1/3 dollar with 200.00 min / 500.00 max buy-in runs 24/7 and in the afternoon a 2/5 dollar table. While I was there 5/10 dollar PLO5 were hit and miss in the weekday evenings, but on weekends they started up in the early afternoon.

Here goes.

If you are concerned about friends or associates knowing about your mongering activities, adjust your activities accordingly. For instance, don't bring women back to your abode if you think you will be labelled; don't hit the bars with those who are not similarly inclined.

The physical characteristics of women in Southeast Asia are remarkably similar. Remember, ethnicities are largely constructs of lines in the sand. Borders. Northern Thai girls more often have lighter skin, Thai girls from the Northeast are more dark on the average. Khmer girls and Northeast Thais are indistinguishable from each other. In fact, even Thais can have difficulty in identifying Filipinos from across a room. Last year, I posted a photo collage of four women I personally know. I asked the board if anybody could guess their nationality. Nobody was able to do so. It can be like guessing if a chick is from Dallas or Ft. Worth or Midland just by looking at them. LOL.

First night we decided to try The Factory. Impressions were that the bar is nice and split over a couple of levels. A lot of pretty girls and the pool table is new and nice to play on.
