Considering the price of higher end hotels in Haiti I think it is your best option overall. I would love to see more of Haiti but the language barrier keeps me from returning.

P. S. There is 10x more emigration to Santo Domingo due to University, governmental and all jobs by far than to Sosua. Your talking the difference of 4mil vs 60k populations and Sosua's numbers are inclusive of monger travel.

I am looking forward to the trip. I will have to find out if they have secure parking for the rental car. In zona colonial in santo domingo it is generally not a good idea to leave the car parked overnight in the street (in the daytime and early evening it is OK to park in the street). And sometimes some of the old hardened fish migrate from the pond to the Ocean. Overall though usually more variety in the Ocean and slightly more dangerous (although you can drown in both places).

Having said that, Sosua is a small place and to me was nice the first trip, in that everything was within a walkable distance. Santo Domingo on the other hand is way way extended, with typical big city problem of traffic and parking so it reminds me not of a beach vacation place.
I have no interest in taking part in the usual and useless north vs south debate but one reason I stick to Santiago, is because to me, it is a balance between the north and south option but I do not want to be the Mayor of Santiago either. I could very well move to Montecristi or Nagua for that matter if Santiago gets crowded LOL.

I loved Santiago and the small places up north. IMO; Sosua is a Noob starting point, Wham Bam or Bachelor party destination. In fact, its the more expenses of most places save for Santo Domingo Casas. Santo Domingo appeals to me because I enjoy exploring. Lots of places and small societies/hoods with interesting people grinding it out to make a living. Its fun to meet, go to cook outs and enjoy the people instead of looking for snapper every minute of the day. However, when I/m looking for good fish I have more options than I can think of.
Best thing I did was put a Claro sim in my old Iphone and kept all the numbers of every woman I have ever had relations. I called and kept in touch with the high rated ones and even some I did not like. Its turned into some pretty nice hook ups and introductions. And yes, Western Union requests. Just in American Strip Club Game, if you can open a crease, you can get into the other side of the person and connect with her circle. Getting in that circle makes you safe for her and her friend to confide, assist and even promote. However, we have some that do not know how to work it so they find themselves alone in a city of greater than a million single young women.
To Each his own. I find value in both spots but at this point I believe I have outgrown Sosua
