I was at Pattaya 26 Jan at Tropical hotel. There is a lane next to international hospital where you can find hundreeds of girl awaiting in bars and brothels. Usually cost you 500bath bar fine. 500++ gor the girl and 500++ for hotel chart.

Are prepaid cell phones available in Thailand?

You need an unlocked GSM cell phone *PLUS* a SIM card for one of the Thailand carriers. (They all work pretty much the same in Pattaya. There may be differences in coverage out in the sticks.)

You can buy both on the Bay of E before your trip. The advantage in doing so is that you'll know your phone number in advance and you can give it to people who might want to call you. It also makes it easier to hook up with the taxi driver you booked in advance at the airport in Bangkok.

Usually the SIM card comes preloaded with a few hundred baht in credit. To add more, step into any 7-11 and buy a "top up card" for whatever cell phone carrier you have. Once you have the top up card you key a long sequence of numbers into your phone and hit send. Presto! Your credit is topped up.

If you're cheap you can save a few baht by waiting to purchase your cell phone until you arrive in Pattaya. Go to Tukcom, which is on the south side of South Pattaya Road, just west of the intersection with Soi Buakaow. There are literally dozens of vendors selling every conceivable type of cell phone.

How can you identify the different types of bars (Gogos, Beer Bars, BJ Bars, etc.) from the outside or from a quick look around the interior?

Beer bars are casual places, open to the street. There is a roof, but no air conditioning. As you walk by on the street you can see inside and check out the girls. If you fancy one, stop in for a drink, a game or whatever. Even if you're not looking for a girl, beer bars are great places to pass the time, watching the world go by or having a drink and a laugh with your mates. If you're hungry, but some noodles from a roving vendor and dig in.

Go-gos are much like strip clubs in the United States. They are indoor affairs with air conditioning where the girls dance on elevated stages. Some also feature jacuzzi shows, shower shows, etc. Most go-gos are on Walking Street and the side streets than run off Walking Street. But there are also several good ones on Soi LK Metro. Blowjob bars are less common. If you search the forum you'll learn their names.

Family and friends will want to see pictures of the wonderful time I had in LOS. Can anyone recommend some easy to reach tourist attractions in and around Pattaya?

Boat trip to Koh Larn Island. Nooch Gardens. Karting track south of Walking Street. Any of the championship golf courses that are only a few miles away. You should also check out the markets in Pattaya, where you can take photos of colorful locals selling just about anything. There is a cool night market on the west side of Soi Buakaow, about halfway between Soi Honey on the south and Central Pattaya Road on the north. In addition to all the trinkets for sale they have numerous food stalls selling all kinds of yummy chow for dirt cheap. There's nothing like having a cheap dinner with the working girls before a night out on the town.

Has anyone stayed at the Secrets hotel at Soi 14 and WS? It looks pretty good and reasonable from the website. Recommendations, advise?

Secrets has a loyal fan base, and lots of guys enjoy staying close to Walking Street. But there are other centers of gravity for adult fun in Pattaya, namely the go-gos on Soi LK Metro, the beer bars on Sois 7 & 8 between Beach Road and Second Road and the incomparable scene on Soi Six. So for my money central Pattaya is the best place to stay. There are numerous places to stay in that part of town, ranging from guest houses that offer great value for money to luxe properties where you can live the life of the Two Week Millionaire. If you give us some idea of your budget we could recommend specific places.

The water goes on from midnight and carries on till the next night, fading a bit as the night progress. In some places it is a 3-day action, figure out.

Put your walleet or money in a plasticg bag well wrapped, wear essential clothing, you will more wet than after a plunge in the pool.

Beware of some ice water (the barrel is filled with water that is chilled with a bag of ice cubes)

Don't freak out if they paste (wet) white or red powder on your face or exposed skin, it is part of the game.

But you may still get the occasional person trying to spray someone after 6pm. The craziest day is the last day.

The night before the final day, no-one and nowhere is safe at any time.

I remember ducking and diving around so many people while I was on my way to the disco in walking st. Then when walking back with a girl to my hotel, we were trying everything we could to avoid getting heavily sprayed.

But I enjoyed every day. It was loads of fun. Get a motorbike taxi, and have a cruise around all the sois, during songkran, and watch all the bar girls going crazy, and trying to spray you. The water feels really nice in the hot sun, like having a hot shower outdoors. Unless they have put ice into the barrels.

The craziest place was the last day, when I saw someone using a big hose pipe connected to the water hydrant, to spray everyone. LOL, (same as what firemen use)

As for the girls, they will always be happy to take care of you at any time. But i never tried during the daytime while playing songkran.

I was there last year, didn't mind the daytime stuff, but when "fuckwit farangs" want to carry on over dark, then it's a bit too much. Nothing worse than walking around in wet clothes and visiting air con bars. My trip in Mar-Apr this year is bypassing Thailand when it's on. Also Pattaya seems to hold it for more days than other parts of the country.

It is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. On the last day, Beach Road is shut down to traffic and the water fighting goes from one end to another. There are bands setup all along the beach side as well.

My best advice for the last day is to buy some water shoes, with decent soles. Because if you are out there all day enjoying the festival, your feet will suffer, at least mine did.

As mentioned, avoid the water barrels with the ice water. I got blasted in the chest a couple of times, and each time I swore that my heart stopped for a few seconds. And get the biggest squirt gun available. There will be stands through Pattaya that will sell them.

I will probably pick up a phone at Tukcom as you suggested since I should be into the airport in time to catch the Bell Tracel bus to Pattaya and won't need to contact a taxi. Do you know an approximate price for the phone and SIM in Pattaya?

I'm hoping to spend 8 days in LOS for between $1000. 1500 US. From what I've read in this forum that should be doable, but if I go a little over-buget it won't break the bank. So I guess that means I should be loking for a hotel in the 800. 1200 baht range. Although I am not opposed to paying less if the place is clean, GF, has in-room safe and internet, and has enough room that 2 people can pass each other without turning sideways. Recommendations appreciated.

Tokyo leg of the trip. But if I am lucky enough to be there during the festival I intend to enjoy it to the fullest. The motorbike taxi ride sounds like a great idea. In fact I may do that even if I miss the festival just to familiarize myself with the various mongering areas in the city.
