IMHO, you will have more fun in PI if you speak Tagalog. Think you will be quite marketable and tap regular girls. Just get the girl on some birth control first. You don't want leave a human trail.

Thanks![/QUOTE]Not super hard to find a girl in BKK to go bareback (with no added cost) , but if you want a much higher batting average, my suggestion is to bring oraquik test kits from the US (for your own sense of comfort and hers). Or go to a hospital and get a hiv test plus syphillis in 4 hours. (will cost you 100 usd or so at bumrungrad). Such an assurance and perhaps even a slight monetary incentive should work reasonably well for you. So will your age.

When it comes to Songkran, Pattaya is the worse of them all. I've been to the Bangkok and haven't been everywhere in Thailand but enough to see Bangkok for the capital is very tame in my opinion. It last about 3 days, many tell me Bangkok isn't indicative of what Thailand is all about that people actually dress different and got to go to a real job. I wear shorts only and when I go Bangkok, on the BTS, look around I'm a minority.

Three days is about right, I feel the whole country should set it up where they celebrate it all on the same dates and be done with it. Here in Pattaya, Chon Buri province it starts about 7-10 days before the 19th, suppose the final days but if you are hard core and need a shower, you can head down to Sattahip, Bang Suray on the 20th. The hardest play area is down starting early and get worse is down Beach Road, starting Soi 6,7.8. 9, But getting wet can happen anytime even at night going to W. S. If it fires you up my suggestion is don't come! The closer to the 19th, these areas get worse at night if I go out, I take a change of clothes on my bike and wear a plastic 29 baht wear and throw away plastic tarp.

Pattaya is basically a resort location swim wear type is completely opposite of Bangkok, which is just ideal during Songkran. As it gets closer to the 19th, every district starts to rev up, Jomtien, Darkside, Naklua, 18th, particularly 19th, Sukhumvit is a parking lot, if you want to party and patient you can go throughout Pattaya on the 18-19 and it would seem a storm front has hit Pattaya.

Personally, if one has to ask if they are going to get wet, the answer from me is don't come!

We're talking about barrels of water with bags of ice in them and crowds of Thais and/or farangs dipping buckets into it to dump on your head, people with garden hoses in front of the restaurants, bars, hotels. Wherever you try to enter or emerge from a taxi, there will be teams of "jokers" with high powered water rifles on your side of the soi, on the other side of the soi, stationed at every gate and walkway ready to drench you many times over before you get to your destination. I live on a relatively quiet, sedate soi near the bar areas and it is impossible to walk 2 minutes in any direction without being soaked head to toe starting around 9:30 AM and ending around 10 PM every official day of Songkran and likely another day on either side of those days.

If you must wear expensive clothing or a suit, I recommend you carry it in a plastic bag and change into those clothes after you arrive wherever you're going. If you can't do that, buy a poncho with a hood that covers at least to your knees, take off your shoes and socks, roll up your pants legs and walk fast past the gangs without stopping. At least one of them will try to lift your poncho and toss a bucket of water up onto your butt and crotch anyway. Forget the idea that it will just be a few kids with water pistols. It is gangs of kids and adults, farang and Thai, armed with whatever it takes to get you and every, single, person walking down the street soaking wet. The only exceptions I have ever seen are very well dressed, very OLD ladies who look like they are on their way to temple. And even they are bound to get their shoes and hair wet from those water rifles over-shooting.

Having an exposed mobile phone or camera means nothing to these turds. All of this whilst these gerbils don't have a remote clue what the Songkran festival is all about.

You need to be really careful that you do have an out of control bike come flying towards you. Done Song Kran in Thailand and Pi Mai in Laos quite a few times. This year it's golf in Australia.

I would be having my driver pick me up and drop me off inside the meeting car 'park in my limo! Anyone walking anywhere in a expensive suit on those days to be honest I would even be temped to toss some water your way.

If I really had to as noted I would carry cover protect my expensive suit, shoes, socks etc.. to the meeting and get dress. I think if I can do this going to W.S. nights I would have the brains to do this for a meeting.

And, yes, they would be an exception to getting soaked by jokers.

I am planning for my second visit to Pattaya in June and wondering whether the rains will play spoilsport. Checked the weather data and June seems to be the start of the rainy season. I am thinking of second or third week of June. Preferably second week before Ramadan ends, not sure whether that makes any difference in terms of crowds.

My last visit was in November and the weather was perfect.

Please let me know if there is any large event coming up in June in Pattaya that one should be aware of. Last time I did not know about the international fleet meet in November and it was a nightmare with road closures and resulted in lot of pain the butt moving around for an entire day. For someone who is there for just a few days it makes a big difference. Thanks folks!
