I don't know though. When I checked in to the hotel the other day the manager told me she was getting ready for high season. She said it was October - March. So maybe it is just a seasonal / cyclical thing.
I agree. The crackdown took place last December, which was supposed to be when High Season was to begin to kick into full gear, and the arrests continued well past March (the end of High Season) and we were even hearing of arrest taking place as late as June. What Sosua has done during that time frame is the equivalent of Wal Mart shutting its doors before the Christmas holiday shopping season, opening them back up after the 4th of July, and expecting their former customers (who have long since been diverted to Target or Costco) to come running back with open arms (which would not happen). There is no doubt that the crackdown taking place during this time period was intentional, but I believe we are starting to see the power structure there recognizing that this was a dumb move that they (Sosua) may not recover from for a long time. Even dumber was the move to implement all of this during an economic downturn (and what might end up becoming a double-dip recession). Higher fuel prices translating into higher airfare isn't helping the North Coast either, especially since airfare to SDQ is far cheaper. I have been to Sosua during the month of December and a couple of times during the month of March pre-crackdown (2008-2010), and the place was always hopping. May and October not so much so, but not nearly as dead as what is currently being reported. But we'll just have to wait and see what the Mayor and the New Police Chief have in store for us this December. If they really want mongers to return then they'd better start advertising soon, because as another member stated:
Apparently the saggy boobed Euro chics didn't come in with their huge spending habits and fill in for the lost mongers.
