Will wonders ever cease? While in Colombia I left novia #1 with a relatively new 15 inch laptop, a camera, and a headset with microphone. Yes, Dann Carlton's hotel are generaly nice all other Colombia.
I would say that street 103 is too much north if you want to be in the zona rosa, but of course, you are very close from the Mezanine (calle 104 with Carrera 15) even if I don't like that place.
If I had to choose an hotel with no money restriction, I prefer the Sofitel Victoria Regia very close from the zona rosa and in a quiet street so you can sleep.
Yes, you're right, Calles run east west and Carrera north south.
Depending on the "barrio" you generally have 80 meters between each calle or Carrera, this is called a manzana (apple) and is the same as a bloc in the US.
So, I didn't walked a lot because I went from Calle 49 to Calle 61 that's 12 blocks, so more or less, one kilometer or 3/4 of a mile.
I just love to walk in the cities and Bogota is really a nice place to do that.
I'd love to go out with you one of these days, but I really have problem with this as I'm a married man.
It's not easy to find a good reason to escape.
That's why I don't monger much in Bogota, but I can do it easely while I'm travelling for my business.
I've read some posts of your friend Routard and I like the way he tells his story.

Day 6 – Bogota
So, here I am—my last full day in Bogota. It has been quite an experience! I can’t imagine how much better things would have been if I could speak Spanish. I could definitely see adding Bogota to my list of regular places to visit. Anyway, I’ll get to my overall thoughts on another, summary post.
