The people on the grand jury who do it are going to feel the heat. In most cases, the media respects the anonymity of the grand jury but this is not most cases. In fact, voting to indict might put you in the crosshairs of some nut with a gun. Are you going to risk your life over the crime of misplaced paperwork?
With a grand jury, you cannot bring a lawyer, only the prosecutor can speak and ask questions, and you have to answer everything. It is a really fucked up process. A grand jury IMO was supposed to be run by the people and not a prosecutor but that is how it is.
At the state level, things are not much better. Thing is Deshaun Watson was not indicted twice by a grand jury. Given that low standard to prosecute, I was like why did DW have to deal with anything more than that? That means there was nothing that could even be prosecuted. This went over the media's heads as they went to crush DW's reputation. All these NFL hacks were besides themselves trying to promote the idea that they were for women or their belief that the NFL could appeal more to women if they beat the snot out of DW. Peter King even quoted the asshole lawyer for these women as he said DW was guilty of sexual assault. Since when is assault not a crime?
As the NFL's main audience, you would not want me on a jury. If you tell me that a woman was offered $100,000 to deal with a guy who put her hand on his dick and then masturbated in front of her, and she said that was not enough and asked me for more, she is getting nothing for wasting my time. I put very little value on the damages of nonharmful contact and disgust. The country would be bankrupt if everyone sued for that and expected that kind of a payout. In fact, asking for that much scratch disgusts me.
And then the Buffalo Bills hear the same nonsense about their punter assaulting someone, so they cut him. The woman went between not remembering anything and being sure the punter raped her.
