As you say, service is poor and "outlets" here are not always obvious. It will be much more obvious in Thailand or Philippines. Especially for a newcomer to the scene. My personal favourite is Indonesia (especially Jakarta) but they may not always be so obvious, and they are really good at taking a newbie for all he's worth.
