Khao San Road - Gulliver Tavern
I was told there is a Bar or Pub at begining of Khao San Road (this back packer quarter) wherwe you can easily meet nice Thai girls.
Has anyone been there?
Do they have girls working there?
Any experiences from this place?

I think I'm turning Japanese
I went to NEP for the first time in a very long time this weekend due to the return of an old friend who wanted to relive the glory days. God!!! What has happened to the place? It was never one of my favorites: too full-on, even at the best of times. But, the girls used to be presentable and the prices relatively cheap. 120 baht for a glass of orange juice??? Geez!!!!!!!!!!
We started in Rainbow II and lasted 15 minutes. Another friend, who's an older Thai hand than I said there was more plastic in there than in a hardware store. It seemed that pretty well every girl had some form of plastic surgery or other. They didn't even look Thai anymore. The friend visiting from the States said they looked like something out of a Japanese cartoon, which makes sense, I suppose since the overwhelming clientele seemed to be newbie Japanese guys throwing money at these fake-looking girls. One of the older girls who obviously couldn't score with the Japanese geeks, came over to me and started with the profunctory back massage and the usual chatter. She was obnoxious and aggressive and left quickly when I wasn't forthcoming with a drink and she realized that I wasn't fresh meat when I barked some Lao at her. The place is a horrow show, to say the least. Newbies, who don't know any better might think it's all great. But believe me, this place is to be avoided if you want an authentic holiday mongering experience (unless of course you're Japanese and go for faux Japanese girls). We then tried Rainbow 4, bigger and better than Rainbow II, but still the same freak show with girls with major attitude problems. We were in an out in 10 minutes.
Finally gave it one last shot by going to Angel Witch. There was no plastic to be seen, but some pretty butt-ugly Isaan girls with miserable faces and bad attitudes.
My friends, both of whom have lovely Thai wives were longing for home, and a shag with the missus by this point, but decided to give the Nana parking lot a chance. They scored because they really wanted to, not because the talent was overwhelming. My friend from the States, who only likes LT was quoted 3,000 for an all-nighter by a parking lot girl, no less, at the end of the month at 1 in the morning when the place was swarming with mediocre fare. Well, you sure can tell it's high season coz the sharks were circling waiting for all you newbie chumps to part with your money.
I left my friends to their hunt and went to Cowboy, coz it's within walking distance of my condo, the girls are generally great and the prices are realistic. Personally, I've always liked Cowboy better because most of the bars have a more relaxed ambiance, (with the exception of Baccara, which should be at Nana because of the Japanese emphasis) and the girls are more genuine and friendly. While not exactly stunners, you do get more of the "ho" next door feel from these girls. There are also some that qualify at least as pleasant, perhaps cute looking, and with great attitudes. I've never been much of a fan of Isaan girls. But, at least here, they are fun to be with and talk to without any high-pressure to do anything other than buy them a drink which most linger over rather than gulp down as they do at Nana.
BTW, I had gone to the Bier Garden the day before with my visiting friend. I hadn't been there for awhile because it was never exactly a source of lovely Thai womanhood, although the atmosphere certainly is grist for some creative mill. THAT place is an experience. Do you guys actually shag these girls? The place has been deconsructed quite eloquently by other veterans here. So, I won't repeat other than to use the somewhat worn comparison to the bar scene in Star Wars. How does one spell that sound one makes when we shudder, and symbolically wipe ourselves down, as if covered in goo? That's the feeling from the Bier Garden.
It was an interesting revisit this weekend to the places that visiting mongers wax poetic about on this forum. Cowboy is the same as it always was. It never promises what it can't deliver, the prices have only inched up and the girls still are fun, if not exactly memorable.
If you are new and don't know where to begin, go to Cowboy. Avoid Nana like the plague and leave it for Toshi from Tokyo spending his hard-earned salary-man money on girls manufactured to look like those he can't afford back home.
A question from a colder climate
I’ve always considered I would like to get over to Bangkok at some point and whilst there are many other reasons outside of the sex scene, I would be lying if I said that the idea of an utterly debauched blow out wasn’t part of the attraction.
I work quite a lot in EE, especially Kiev and SPB, which ideally suits my favoured my female form. To be honest, a hedonistic trip to Asia has been delayed partly based on the likely stupidity of my end of trip report “Bangkok – great place; women insufficiently Slavic looking.”
I was interested in Old Thai Hand, JuiceSpike, Coma Boy and Piper1 all writing recent reports about Soi, NEP and the Beer Garden. These seem to constitute the mainstays of the beginner’s guide to punting in Bangkok and the general impression from those who have been around a bit seems overwhelmingly negative towards the standard places. It’s not uncommon in any area of the forum for “old hands” to a particular place to slam the most well-worn places and hark back to the good old days. It’s a continuum throughout the board – those who have been going somewhere for 10 years, yearn for the place of 5 years ago, those who have going there for a year, yearn for six months ago.
So my question to the regulars of the forum (finally!) is this – assuming I only have time to visit BKK for a few days and not get out to the real Thailand and, as a novice to the area, would probably do the trad beginner’s circuit, do you still rate BKK as worth a visit from a purely hedonistic perspective? Is this part of the circuit truly that grim or does it just seem so poor based on your richer knowledge of Thailand and memories of what BKK used to be and, as a one off blast, BKK is still actually a riot?
In the meantime, Piper1's post has made me choose -14 over 90 degrees...and for this sir, I thank you from the bottom of 6ft blonde I intend to find in the very near future.
