First, there have been cases where pictures of chicas became a huge issue in criminal prosecutions. It comes under laws about slander, and also just privacy. So even if the girl is not very concerned at some point in the future if her picture shows up on the web and she claims this caused her hurt, perhaps family members found out she was a hooker, or whatever it will be deemed criminal. And second, you are right to be sympathetic toward the girls. Many, if not most, are doing this out of necessity. They may not start out that way, but it becomes a lifestyle that traps them. If they want to be public about what they do they have that option with online websites, etc. But I wouldn't want to inadvertently put them in that position and potentially cause harm.

[U][B]Getting There and Getting Around[/B][/U]
I flew Economy Class on United Airlines from New York to San Jose. I had enough miles in my balance to fly First Class and / or I could have paid for a more comfortable seat, but I decided to save that money and those miles for a much bigger, longer trip at another time (it was like 5 hours from New York to San Jose). That said, the cost of my ticket was in the $800 to $900 range, which is freaking expensive for a roundtrip flight to Costa Rica if you think about it. I could have found an even cheaper Economy ticket, but I'm pretty loyal to just a few airline partnerships. That's how I've built up all those miles. Once down there, I took a taxi from the airport to the Taormina Hotel ($30), then used Uber the rest of the time in San Jose (works great in Costa Rica).
There was no need to be concerned about ground transportation in Jaco since every place I wanted to get to was within easy walking distance of my hotel the Cocal. But how did I get to Jaco from San Jose? I took a private van that offered door-to-door service from San Jose to Jaco for just under $48 one way. I was interested in doing the same thing when it was time to return to San Jose to catch my flight back to the States, but nobody was offering a trip at an acceptable time to ensure I would make my flight. So, for just under $7, I took the bus back to San Jose, which got me back in plenty of time to catch my flight. I'm glad I had both experiences just to compare. Each has its pros and cons. The van offers more personalized service, but it's also more expensive, and with stops it took 3 hours to get to Jaco! The bus is much cheaper and took only 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to the airport, but the service is not door-to-door, and I had to haul my luggage uphill to the terminal! I prefer the more comfortable and private door-to-door accommodation offered by a van service, but if you want to save some money, the bus is fine too.
[U][B]Lodging[/B][/U]
For me, this was a really an easy choice. No place was going to do but the two current "ground zeroes" for hooring and wenching in Costa Rica. That would be the Taormina in San Jose and the Cocal in Jaco. The Taormina was $105 a night while how much I paid at the Cocal depended on which type of room and on what days. It costs more on Fridays and Saturdays at the Cocal, and of course for a room with a view. I balked at paying more for a view (hey, in the room I'm either fucking or sleeping not looking out the window). I'm glad I skipped the view for a more relatively quiet room on the parking lot side. For my Cocal room, I paid $140 a night except for Friday and Saturday that were billed at $160 a night. I find the rates at the Cocal to be kind of high, but you have to do what you have to do if you want to be who you want to be! As a consolation, there are no chica fees at the Cocal for taking a girl up to your room. At the Taormina, you'll pay $15 to take a chica to your room for two hours or less. Anything longer than that and it's a $30 chica fee. No exceptions. My room at the Taormina was clean but dated and worn. If it weren't for the chicas, I would never bunk there. Food and drink prices were on the high side (in fairness large portion sizes though), but breakfast was included, and there are plenty of screens around showing sports from the States if you're into that. There's the casino. And of course the girls! Now, after two nights at the Cocal, I was ready to give it high marks, but then at 2 am In the morning, I saw a big ass cockroach on the bathroom wall! As bad as the Taormina is (and the Del Rey was), I never ever saw any creepy crawlies in my room ever. So, my overall view of the Cocal as a place to headquarter really kind of tanked right then and there. Also, there were several power outages at the Cocal. None of them lasted long, but very annoying! And their Wi-Fi sucks!

Speaking of wi-fi, I have the T-Mobile International Plan, which works great overseas for me. In Costa Rica, I just flipped the switch over to roaming, and in short order I had internet connectivity through Claro. My plan gives me unlimited data and texting while calls are. 25 cents a minute. I love the T-Mobile International Plan because it just works without a bunch of hassles. You land overseas in a foreign country, and it just works no problems! You turn on roaming and it works! I know some claim to have had problems using T-Mobile abroad, but I never have.
[U][B]Money Matters[/B][/U]
I used ATMs to pull some colones for things like food and drink, incidentals, and miscellaneous. You can use a credit card at most places catering to tourists too, but I always like to have some local currency just in case. That was actually unnecessary at the Cocal where all prices are quoted in dollars, and sometimes they would have to stand there and calculate how much that was in colones! I always travel with my valued Schwab debit card, which refunds any and all ATM fees, both foreign and domestic, so any fees I incur from using the ATMs will be reimbursed at the end of the month. As for paying the girls, dollars are readily accepted, and I had plenty of greenbacks on hand to close the deals and do the deeds. For relatively short trips like this one, I'm not too interested in converting a whole lot of my money into the local currency, just a little bit, especially when dollars are so readily accepted. All you need to do is know the conversion rate and bargain accordingly. And if you like the look of the girls, it will be like spearing fish in a barrel. So, if you're thinking about going, I say by all means do so! It just might be the place for you. Costa Rica will always hold a very special place in my heart, because it's where I got started. But things have changed. Things have changed a lot! And in a way I don't particularly like, like no more hot Colombianas on the scene. I'm glad I went back one more time to see and experience Costa Rica today. But, I shan't return. [U][B]Getting There and Getting Around[/B][/U]
I flew Economy Class on United Airlines from New York to San Jose. I had enough miles in my balance to fly First Class and / or I could have paid for a more comfortable seat, but I decided to save that money and those miles for a much bigger, longer trip at another time (it was like 5 hours from New York to San Jose). That said, the cost of my ticket was in the $800 to $900 range, which is freaking expensive for a roundtrip flight to Costa Rica if you think about it. I could have found an even cheaper Economy ticket, but I'm pretty loyal to just a few airline partnerships. That's how I've built up all those miles. Once down there, I took a taxi from the airport to the Taormina Hotel ($30), then used Uber the rest of the time in San Jose (works great in Costa Rica).
There was no need to be concerned about ground transportation in Jaco since every place I wanted to get to was within easy walking distance of my hotel the Cocal. But how did I get to Jaco from San Jose? I took a private van that offered door-to-door service from San Jose to Jaco for just under $48 one way. I was interested in doing the same thing when it was time to return to San Jose to catch my flight back to the States, but nobody was offering a trip at an acceptable time to ensure I would make my flight. So, for just under $7, I took the bus back to San Jose, which got me back in plenty of time to catch my flight. I'm glad I had both experiences just to compare. Each has its pros and cons. The van offers more personalized service, but it's also more expensive, and with stops it took 3 hours to get to Jaco! The bus is much cheaper and took only 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to the airport, but the service is not door-to-door, and I had to haul my luggage uphill to the terminal! I prefer the more comfortable and private door-to-door accommodation offered by a van service, but if you want to save some money, the bus is fine too.
[U][B]Lodging[/B][/U]
For me, this was a really an easy choice. No place was going to do but the two current "ground zeroes" for hooring and wenching in Costa Rica. That would be the Taormina in San Jose and the Cocal in Jaco. The Taormina was $105 a night while how much I paid at the Cocal depended on which type of room and on what days. It costs more on Fridays and Saturdays at the Cocal, and of course for a room with a view. I balked at paying more for a view (hey, in the room I'm either fucking or sleeping not looking out the window). I'm glad I skipped the view for a more relatively quiet room on the parking lot side. For my Cocal room, I paid $140 a night except for Friday and Saturday that were billed at $160 a night. I find the rates at the Cocal to be kind of high, but you have to do what you have to do if you want to be who you want to be! As a consolation, there are no chica fees at the Cocal for taking a girl up to your room. At the Taormina, you'll pay $15 to take a chica to your room for two hours or less. Anything longer than that and it's a $30 chica fee. No exceptions. My room at the Taormina was clean but dated and worn. If it weren't for the chicas, I would never bunk there. Food and drink prices were on the high side (in fairness large portion sizes though), but breakfast was included, and there are plenty of screens around showing sports from the States if you're into that. There's the casino. And of course the girls! Now, after two nights at the Cocal, I was ready to give it high marks, but then at 2 am In the morning, I saw a big ass cockroach on the bathroom wall! As bad as the Taormina is (and the Del Rey was), I never ever saw any creepy crawlies in my room ever. So, my overall view of the Cocal as a place to headquarter really kind of tanked right then and there. Also, there were several power outages at the Cocal. None of them lasted long, but very annoying! And their Wi-Fi sucks!

Speaking of wi-fi, I have the T-Mobile International Plan, which works great overseas for me. In Costa Rica, I just flipped the switch over to roaming, and in short order I had internet connectivity through Claro. My plan gives me unlimited data and texting while calls are. 25 cents a minute. I love the T-Mobile International Plan because it just works without a bunch of hassles. You land overseas in a foreign country, and it just works no problems! You turn on roaming and it works! I know some claim to have had problems using T-Mobile abroad, but I never have.
[U][B]Money Matters[/B][/U]
I used ATMs to pull some colones for things like food and drink, incidentals, and miscellaneous. You can use a credit card at most places catering to tourists too, but I always like to have some local currency just in case. That was actually unnecessary at the Cocal where all prices are quoted in dollars, and sometimes they would have to stand there and calculate how much that was in colones! I always travel with my valued Schwab debit card, which refunds any and all ATM fees, both foreign and domestic, so any fees I incur from using the ATMs will be reimbursed at the end of the month. As for paying the girls, dollars are readily accepted, and I had plenty of greenbacks on hand to close the deals and do the deeds. For relatively short trips like this one, I'm not too interested in converting a whole lot of my money into the local currency, just a little bit, especially when dollars are so readily accepted. All you need to do is know the conversion rate and bargain accordingly. In San Jose, the girls typically would quote $100 per hour but would often accept a little less than that, especially in the daytime. In Jaco, the starting asking was $200, and it could be hard to get a girl to budge off of that.

A few exchanged smiles, and I was over there to get some "facts". The girl told me her name was "Mauuv", and that she was a single, 32 year-old, Tica flight attendant with no kids. So, if you see one you like you may as well approach her since she's probably a tute looking to make a deal anyway. It was 1 am at the Orange Pub when one hit on me to take her and her friend. She said she would give me a good deal. She was cute (the friend was not), but it was late and I was tired, so I wasn't going to bite. But, I decided to play along with her for a few just to see what kind of "deal" she was going to give me. Her price was $300 for the both of them! I just about spit up my drink LOL! But hey, if you're looking for some places to go to after the Cocal closes (2 am), then Republic or Orange Pub are in the places to be.

After thinking about it long and hard, my answer is no. I would not go back to San Jose and the Taormina Hotel under any circumstances. I only saw 1 girl I liked (Krisly) in 4 days! And as far as Jaco goes, the Cocal has a ton of girls, but few of them appealed to me physically. To the point where I got kind of bored being there! If you're in a place like Brazil or Germany and a place isn't working for you, then you have a ton of other venues you can check out. Not so true in Costa Rica. Again, I guess San Jose has the pensiones and the massage parlors, but a guy living down there told me that most of the best ones have closed. I know that in Jaco there are some spas, but I didn't go to any of those since the Cocal, and then the late night clubs, are where the major action is. But remember, this is just me and my opinion. I talked to some guys at the Taormina and the Cocal who were like in 7th Heaven (mostly newbies or guys without a lot of experience). A lot of the guys who have retired down there don't even frequent the clubs that much. But hey look, Costa Rica is easy. It's not hard to get to relative to other places, you don't need a visa, it's tourist / foreigner friendly, and for Americans the dollar is widely accepted (but prices for food, drink, and transportation are no longer cheap). And if you like the look of the girls, it will be like spearing fish in a barrel. So, if you're thinking about going, I say by all means do so! It just might be the place for you. Costa Rica will always hold a very special place in my heart, because it's where I got started. But things have changed. Things have changed a lot! And in a way I don't particularly like, like no more hot Colombianas on the scene. I'm glad I went back one more time to see and experience Costa Rica today. But, I shan't return. It sounds like the lay of the land has changed quite a bit from my visits many years ago. The fact that Jaco is better for mongering than San Jose is a complete flip-flop from the past. There must be something to the hand of the government at work. For a small city, San Jose was a sex Disneyland with many different types of venues. San Jose's decline could be because as you mentioned the difficulty of foreign girls getting visas. Ticas looking to make a buck also likely feel more anonymous in Jaco. Jaco was a very small town a few years ago. The local economy has been catering to more and more foreign money.
You mentioned there used to be many Colombianas. I would say from my long past experience there were many Colombianas, Nicas, Dominicanas and also a few Panameñas sprinkled into the mix. Kind of a Central American smorgasbord. I always found Ticas to be generally slimmer than Colombianas and other South American women. Your photos would seem to confirm that, but I would defer to your first-hand assessment.
Now I'm not surprised the Ticas are more expensive than working girls in Brasil. It always was. Costa Rica is a much easier flight from the United States. Then you throw in casinos and sports books and you've got a real man's vacation. Since I know you from our discussions on Brasil, I would say I always preferred the Brasileiras over the girls, any ethnicity, that I found in Costa Rica.
I enjoyed a career that was perfectly suited for being a monger. At the time I entered the profession I didn't know that, and it had no bearing whatsoever on my desire to join that field. I mean, I had messed with tutes before here and there in the States and once in the Netherlands, but none of that measured up to the scene at the legendary Hotel del Rey in San Jose, Costa Rica! Not even close! At the time, I was still in the "got to meet the right one and settle down and get married" mode. Have a family and a home and all that sort of thing. And live happily forever after. Yeah right! Well, that lasted for a few more years even after Costa Rica. But my introduction to mongerdom eventually ended all that kind of thinking, especially after I went to Brazil for the first time. That was all she wrote! Monger for life!
So, what is it about a job that makes it perfect for becoming a monger, especially on an international level? Well first, and pretty obviously, it would have to be one that allows you to travel extensively abroad and even live overseas for extended periods at a time. You see my brothers, the truth of the matter is that although I have represented over the years that I have been living exclusively in the United States all this time, in actuality I have been living and working all over the world! I would estimate that over the last two decades I spent 60% of my time in the States and 40% abroad. So why the subterfuge? Well, I did it to "throw them off the trail" if you will. We don't know who has been reading this site when or for what nefarious reasons, and it was just one of my ways to help maintain my anonymity. Now that I've retired early, I don't care so much about letting where I've been living all these years be more generally known. I've secured the funds, and they can't be taken away from me now. I earned them. All of it! And I've broken no laws. It's mine! Speaking of which, the other thing required to be a successful international monger is money. You've got to have an income that allows you enough cash and benefits to manage all the responsible things one should do in life and still have more than enough left over to enjoy the finer things in life too, like "the hobby". Fortunately enough for me, I had that too.
Now, I'm sure you're wondering what is this career or profession that I'm talking about? Well discretion remains the better part of valor! I will say this though. Years ago on another monger site, somebody made a post about the best jobs to have for being an international hoor monger, and what I used to do for a living was on his list. I thought, "Now this guy knows what the hell he's talking about"! I've never seen anybody else mention my former career ever again. I wouldn't say that it's a "rare" or "exotic" profession, but for whatever reason people just don't tend to think about it or make a connection between it and access to international mongering. I know I didn't until I got into it. But boy am I glad I discovered it with all its "side benefits", and not just the opportunity to monger either. Being able to travel and see the world is a privilege and a joy in and of itself! I did take exception to one of the jobs mentioned on the guy's list though, which was that of Peace Corps Volunteer. Work like that will definitely get you abroad, but the problem is that it doesn't pay good money. But then on the other hand, given the places they go to you probably don't need that much money and / or can get it for free. Will fuck for food! They don't call it the toughest job you'll ever love for nothing LOL!
In any event, now that I've stopped working and taken care of the things that I needed to in order to have a comfortable retirement, I'm announcing right here and right now at this very moment my full-time return to the circuit! That's right my fellow mongers! I've got upcoming trips planned for my two favorite destinations of Brazil and Germany, and I've already taken an "anniversary" trip back to Costa Rica too where it all began (see my report). I can't wait! I'm so excited! And I just can't hide it (this big boner)! I'm about to lose control and I know I'll like it! LMFAO! When the pandemic hit the globe with full force in 2020, nobody was going anywhere. The world started to open up again in 2021, but I stayed home since there were still all kinds of nuisances around vaccinations, testing, and quarantine requirements and with many businesses of all types not having returned to normal operations yet let alone the mongering establishments. And then with the onset of 2022, I had to stop and consider that I was getting close to when I had hoped to early retire. I needed to put planning for that first to make sure I was ready, so no international mongering for me in 2022 or 2023 either. I started traveling again in 2021, but I didn't go abroad. It was all domestic. I stuck to my credo. Made sure my bills were paid and my investments made [B]before[/B] I got laid (at least as far as foreign pussy went)! I finally got back overseas again to Costa Rica in 2024.
Well now I'm back on "the track" so to speak for keeps! I travel, I eat, I drink, I fuck. And I write. And I'm hungry for more! Stay tuned!
