The swingers club where couples come just to Showboat...
there have been a couple of positive reports on the showboat swingers club in zaandijk near amsterdam. i had been there a few times in the summer and to be honest i wasn't impressed and had made my mind up never to go back. but given recent reports i thought that i would give it another go, yesterday, because by all accounts things there must have picked up.
basically if you are a single guy, you need to phone up to book at around 5pm on the day. if you phone much later e. g. at 7pm then it is likely that they will say that the guest list for single guys is full. they speak great english on the phone which helps.
you also need to quote your membership number and they will give you a booking reference. if you are not a member then you give your name and you need to join the club when you visit.
one of the biggest selling points for me about this place is that it is not too far from amsterdam so you can make a day trip and return to amsterdam without booking a hotel. there are other dutch swingers clubs around amsterdam but they are much further away e. g. like in lelystad which is over an hour by train. the nearest main train station for the showboat, zaandam, is only a 15 minute ride from amsterdam centraal and then you can take a bus which gets there in 15 minutes or a taxi which will cost around 12 euros. the 89 bus is once every half an hour and you need to get off at koperslagerstraat and walk forward for about 20 metres.
i caught the last bus for the evening which left zaandam at 11. 30pm and by midnight i was changing clothes in the club and raring to go. getting changed in the communal changing room with other women taking off or putting on their clothes puts you in the mood.
first things first, i needed to attend to my stomach. you can't go to war on an empty stomach can you?. well credit where credit is due. you really can't complain about the buffet at showboat. there are lots of food with a wide range of both hot and cold. chicken, beef, rice, different fishes, different vegetables and salads, fruits. you just can't eat it all. they even have some hot dogs at around 2am for those who are still hungry.
i retired to the bar with my plate groaning under the weight of food. from my vantage point at the bar i knocked back a couple of beers whilst eyeing up the women on the dance floor. there is a minimum spend of 22. 50 euros on drinks which works out at around 7-8 beers. if you drunk all of that though then it might seriously compromise your performance. the bar staff make a note of your key number whenever you order a drink and you have to trust them to add up correctly the number of drinks that you have had at the end of the evening. generally it is ok but i have found a couple of discrepancies with this in the past.
another big selling point of this club is that the entrance fee is only 45 euros as compared to around 100 euros in other clubs that i have visited in germany and italy for example.
as often reported most of the women in here have an average age of in their 40's. you do get a few young women in here but the vast majority of these young girls are unfriendly to guys that they don't know and have a chip on their shoulder because they realise that they are a scarce commodity in a club where the women are much older.

there is also a dj in a raised booth playing pounding techno music to accompany a full battery of disco lights. this is another key problem with the place for me, in that it seems to have now become just a place for 'swinging' couples to come to go clubbing rather than a place where single guys are guaranteed lots of gang bang activity on any day that they care to turn up. i am sure that there would be a considerable saving on the entrance price if that dj wasn't there with little loss in people's enjoyment.
anyway down to the action that is supposed to be taking place in the basement. i am often to be seen shuttling back and forth incessantly between the downstairs area, to check whether there is any action happening, and then back upstairs to carry on drinking. you are not allowed to take your drinks downstairs and guys have been banned from the club in the past if they break this rule.
downstairs they have about 5 rooms with some silly indian names taken i presume from the kuma satra. these rooms are lockable and have no windows. then there is a main lounge with massive bed the size of about 3 or 4 double beds put together. then there are 3 lockable rooms leading off from the main lounge which have small windows set high up on the doors.
there was no action happening whatsoever on the large bed but in one of the windowed rooms an extremely fat woman was drawing the crowds. the door was left open and people were packed in there. from what i could see she had this electrical device like a battery charger with lots of leads and a clip at the end. she was using this to apply electric shocks to the body of the man that she was with. the device made buzzing noises like what you have when they scan you for metal at the airport with a hand held device.
this was not my thing at all and later they all spilled out into the main lounge where the show continued. this woman i gathered normally came on the s&m night.
then i spotted the black woman from earlier. she came down with her partner but just stood there watching and then disappeared into a locked room together. this is just the problem with this place. you see horny women but when they come downstairs they disappear into locked room with their partners or with one or maybe two single guys who they have selected.

i used to go to swingers clubs in the north of england in manchester, birmingham and sheffield and you would not get any of this nonsense. at these clubs there maybe only one room would be designated as a couples only room and which could be locked. the others would be open access. guys would crowd round the couples having sex and the couples would then have to rely on the guys showing restraint if they do not want them to join in.

maybe i have just been unlucky as others have made positive reports from this place. however, over a number of visits your luck is supposed to even out. should it not? even a couple of years ago when the club was a lot busier, in two visits, i hardly got anything. a couple would go into a room with one or two guys that they knew or liked the look of and close the door firmly on anyone else. couples would be having sex in the downstairs open area but brush aside any single guy's hands that touched the woman. the only thing that i got then was an opportunity to wank and come over the tits of a woman who everyone was groping in one of the rooms. slim pickings indeed.

as i said in the taxi, and the taxi driver smiled at the time, what's the point of swinging couples going to a club like this to dance in front of the single guys and then go into a locked room to have sex only with each other. they may as well go to a local nightclub and then go home to have sex in their houses instead.
how many chances should you give a place? i have given this place more than enough chances over a period of time and it has consistently failed to deliver. it is more miss than hit most of the time. each trip costs around 100 euros (45 entrance, 22. 50 minimum spend, 35 euros taxi back to amsterdam) and i am no longer prepared to pay that money just to spend a few hours watching couples showing off in front of me, keep trying the handle of doors which are locked and trudging up and downstairs in search of some spontaneous sex with some man's wife/girlfriend which never quite materialises.
now i know why this place is called the showboat. the couples come here just to showboat.

Showboat: What a disappointment!
self discovery is one of those ludicrous terms that i had always thought should be relegated to the self help sections of book stores. however, at showboat on a rainy friday night in november, i discovered something about myself. i am definitely not a gang bang guy. unfortunately for me, friday night was their gang bang night. there have been so many great things reported about showboat and there have been a few detractors, so i thought i should investigate it myself.
driving through the miserable dutch weather, i finally found the place. when the receptionist found out i had no reservation, he looked a little peeved. after i told him this was my first time here, he allowed me to enter after paying my 40 euro fee. there were not many people there at 20:00 so i did not see what the big deal was. through out the night, i would say this place did not even come close to half of its maximum capacity. early on, there were only a few older couples. one of the old ladies was a haus lady, for sure. she took on a bunch of young guys in the bottom floor but she really did nothing for me, especially with all her moaning. also, the thought of banging her while being so close to so many other dudes turned me off, if anything. as the night wore on, some attractive couples arrived but it seemed they either watched the group stuff occurring in the middle of the bottom floor or they went in to one of the locked private rooms. i counted four haus ladies: the old one, an overweight black one, a middle aged blond, and a younger blond with a fantastic rack. the way they were servicing so many guys in the open did absolutely nothing for me. i am not shy but even i did not want to jump in on the action.
