I have a Thai GF, we are bored with discos every night. Last night she wanted a quiet place for drinking, listening to music, maybe live singer or group. She doesn't like jazz, too bad. I only know the Sukh scene. Any suggestions would be most welcome!!
I just thought of another couple of alternatives that I have enjoyed for the criteria you listed. The first one is very different, but fits what you mentioned.
Open House on the 6th floor of Central Embassy at BTS Ploen Chit. It is only open until 12 Midnight on Friday and Saturday night (10 pm otherwise). It is an open style design book store with eclectic eateries and bars, some with high angle views of the surrounding city neighborhood. Typically on the weekend evenings there are a couple of small musical groups set up on opposite sides of the giant room. Might be soft jazz (sorry) or let's say hip standard ballads, stuff that fits the relaxed environment. It might even be chamber music sometimes. You brave enough for that possibility? Lol.
So, it has live music, bars, views, many food options if you do get hungry and is VERY different from the disco scene for sure. Grab one of those huge coffee table books on American Gangster Movies or whatever and flip through the pages with your girl on one of the sitting area couches while you sip your drink and enjoy the background music.
It can make for an evening I'll bet your girl has never had with any other man.
And then there is Escape on the top floor of the Glass Tower (I think. Or the Water Tower) in EmQuartier at BTS Phrom Phong. it varies, but that might often be more soft jazz music.

Depends on your ages
I have never noticed a mosquito problem there. I would not recommend Zanzibar only for the food but closer to the other criteria listed by the OP. I just mentioned the food in passing really. I don't believe the other restaurant options cited in your 2011 review qualify for any of the things asked for by the OP. That older exchange seems to have been only about places to eat in that area, something the OP this time didn't mention.
I agree, I was not recommending those places to him. I recommended Column Hotel rooftop bar. Still at the time in 2011, I was extremely dissatisfied with Zanzibar for the things mentioned. Good food maybe would have saved it. I don't recall the music part now.
I have no longer any clue what I ordered, other than was a mistake. My conclusion was it was just a tourist trap. It is quite possible that years later, they have rectified the serious issues at the time. Would be worth check recent reviews on trip advisor etc.
I checked it. Some good reviews. Looks like people like the music and ambience. Food gets mixed reviews with some saying good, others saying bland and average, others saying they just received wrong stuff (normal communication problems ha ha). It may well be much improved over when I went there.
General agreement on too pricey.

Food reviews are always iffy. Individual taste and knowledge of what the food should be like, varies.

More like a Thai pop music riot in a giant beer hall. Be prepared to at least stand and dance at your table seat like almost everyone else.

https://www.therooftopguide.com/rooftop-bars-in-bangkok.html
I only remember two items I had at Zanzibar, both were pretty good so I ordered them each of the 3-4 times I have taken a girl there; a spicy shrimp salad where the shrimp tasted almost as good as a decent quality lobster tail in the states and, for me, a very satisfying fettuccini carbonara. Maybe had some kind of ice cream dessert. Considering I believe they are selling the drinks, atmosphere and music more than anything, the food was better than I expected. But without the former elements, I would not go there just for the food.
The ladies seem to like it a lot. It touches a lot of bases many girls think of for a semi romantic dinner for two; candlelight, outdoors, tropical setting, live music, fruity cocktails. Many Thai girls have never been taken to that kind of place.

Is the Party Over?
Looks like it is getting tough to stay in this country.
Looks like it is getting tough to stay in this country.
Mr. E.
What office did he go to? The requirements have been in effect for some time since Embassy aren't handing out the affidavits any longer. If doing Income for the first time they might give you a month but certainly not the time frame you buddy is using plus the money has to come from pension and MUST be deposited into a Thai Bank. You can't show pension monthly statement from a local bank from home it must be deposited into a THAI BANK!
If your buddy is in Pattaya I have a source down near beach road and soi 13, haven't met them myself by a coffee buddy used them just a few months back and said 13,000-15,000 took his passport and come back in 2 days, when he did the retirement extension stamp was right in his book. He said he didn't have to have money put in the bank then removed as many services do just gave them the book that was it.
Might be the trend income only because for Bank deposit of lump sum 800,000 baht you need to season 2 months before and 3 months thereafter the amount can't drop below 400,000 baht this method you also need to when doing your need 90 days report bring your bankbook to verify you haven't taken the money out.
People don't listen until too late? A close friend just did his extension he used the 800,000 baht method, had it seasoned applied and got his extension a week later he said he took some money out to pay the bills, he got a SMS message from Immigration in Jomtien and told to come down to office when he did he found out his extension was cancelled due to the money withdrawn with the 3 months.

Kasalong BJ Bar?
I am getting bored of the famous BJ bar at soi 8. Have done most of their pretty ones already.
Lollipop BJ bar at soi 10 is already closed.
I was looking for Kasalong and couldn't find it. Can some fine gentleman here help me get there through correct directions please?
-
Oh, so close.

Once you get back out into the sunlight, you can literally touch a gal that could be gobbling your knob in mere moments. It's seriously about a 15 second walk past L's.

Not sure why you would het bored if BBBJ was damn good. Perhaps she was not pretty at all.
Kasalong is probably officially in Soi 6. Can't miss it on walk through from Lollytas. It might be less than 50 metres away. Probably has better looking girls (not saying that much).

New visa rules.
I've heard there is a limit on amount of entries per year? Is this true?
If so? How many?
