This post could go anywhere but I am putting it in my Davao Board only because many guys tell me this is the first place they head to when they go online. I am basically stating that I honsetly do NOT understand why so many men are unable to meet and fuck beautiful young ( as in 18-30 young) women. The upper-scale restaurant scene in Davao continues to expand and I thought that some guys might be interested in the latest two additions.

The first is a place called Buona Terra, a self-described "Creperie and Deli" on Torres St. across from the bars and next to the Holiday Spa. It's very attractively decorated in the style of a typical French or Italian cafe. The menu offers a pretty wide range of meal and desert crepes, as well as a variety of salads, pastas, beef and chicken dishes and even my favorite, confit de canard. In the front, there's a small deli case offering sausages, cheeses and other imported goods. The wine selection is adequate, with Italian wines--and some Australian and Chilean wines--from about Php500 to Php1,500 per bottle. The place opens at about 11 in the morning for lunch and stays open for the next twelve hours or so. It's strategically located across the street from dozens of bars, so having a late dinner there and then strolling over to the bar area would be no hassles at all. The restaurant is owned by Annie, who also owns the highly successful Italian restaurant Spirale in Damosa Gate.

The second place, which opens officially today, is an outdoor restaurant/bar that's really a roofed area of Henny's outdoor terrace at De Bonte Koe. It's very attractive as well, and has its own menu--including a great breakfast menu and a range of prepared-on-the-premises baked goods. It's called The Patio. I had a chance to see it last night when we were eating at De Bonte Koe, where I had the always excellent Steak Tartar.

This place will attract lots of young people late on week-end evenings and looks like it will be a solid alternative to Bar 183 and the Cacophony of Someplace Else, which is adjacent to Henny's place. The Patio appears to have its own staff, and I look forward to having some Eggs Benedict there. This may be the only spot in Davao that serves the dish. Since the Patio will be open till the wee small hours of the morning, it will like make an excellent spot to take your latest conquest for a light meal, a drink, or coffee. It even has its own espresso machine.

See the Salon on Illustre St, first Salon on the corner there opposite Gaisano Mall. While you're at Chardin's, you might also want to consider getting a pair of nice slacks made. These will cost you all of Php1,500 for pure lightweight wool or a silk and wool mix. I guess I've been in SE Asia on and off for about twenty years, and I barely notice the heat anymore. The trick is to wear lightweight clothes made of natural fabrics and never to spend too much time outside. Everything here is air conditioned, and I don't go on long hikes, so there's not much of a problem. The nights are fairly mild, and it's pleasant to be outside, and during the day I go primarily from air conditioned house to air conditioned car to air conditioned office.

I agree with PLC on this. I have only been frequenting the Philippines (mostly Manila) for the past 4 years. But everytime I start sweating as soon as I depart the air conditioned airport. Because of this, I do tend to wear the standard American summer attire of light weight shirts (polo if I want to look somewhat nice, T-shirt if I don't care), shorts and sandals. I may not be the best looking guy coming off the airplane (and I'm not sure the clothes would make any difference on that), but I am at least somewhat comfortable. I am one of those guys that starts to sweat with the least bit of physical activity (like dragging bags through the airport), and takes an extreme amount of time to cool down.

I have always heard that cotton is bad for hot climates. Is this bad information that I have heard? Would silk shirts be better?

Even though I do not dress in the manner that DS and GE describe, I get my fair share of smiles when walking through the SM. I have never tried to pick up on any of these cuties, as I generally had my steady gf on my arm. But now that relationship is over, and I'm ready to try to make up for lost opportunities on past trips.
