I do not know how the chicas were able to identify me as being with Favio because on more than one occasion I went into venues without him while he was outside doing whatever he was doing.

My goal was to explore PFP venues in Santo Domingo and write a thorough report that could possibly benefit others going forward. As a person who was unfamiliar with Santo Domingo I used the resource that was available at the time to accomplish the goal that was at hand.

Who knows why a girl is a dud. My man went to SD and hit more joints then most seasoned mongers do. Favio was his tool and he provided what he needed. IN SD you are almost always paying the gringo tax with or without a Favio. Cam handled his business like a seasoned guy. He experienced more in his first trip then I did in my first three.

However, as the chicas told me they don't really like having Fabio or other drivers / middle men set them up because they have to kick back some of the money you pay them to the middle man and they think we are duds for having to use middle men.

From my global taxi mongering experiences, many taxi drivers operate like Fabio. Sometimes you find a gem taxi driver through chance. Oftentimes younger drivers with a family realize the value of repeat service and provide fair deals.

I had no idea that Fabio was such a controversial character on the board. Whatever he has done in the past he served my purpose. If there was some way I could have experienced what I did and gleaned the information I received without him I would have but I did not know how to accomplish my objective of going past the surface of Santo Domingo without a guide who could take me where no other reports I have read have been.

Camero1257, I wanted to lean on your great experience again re. these bars, which sound really interesting.

How can you recognise these bars from the outside, are they just open fronted, or closed? The only bar I've been to that reminds me of those is on Calle Las Mercedes, beside El Conde, with a smoked glass front, you would never know it was there, and I only know about it because another punter here let me know of it's existence.

I assume you have been to all these places, which would you recommend as the best ones ? Bearing in mind I'm not looking for barbie girls and stick insects, and prefer curvy women. I'm sure there must be some curvies in some of them! I am sure loads of photo's of women I have seen on badoo etc were taken in these bars, they look just like what you described.

Are these bars open during the day? Otherwise, what time to they get going during the evening? Are they easygoing inside, or pushy?

What is 'The belly of Santo Domingo' like as you put it ? If Santo Domingo had google streetview I could check myself, I treid to check a couple of pictures of the streets you mentioned but they're not easy to find, are they on decent / busy streets or run down side streets? Which areas should I avoid ? I speak pretty good spanish and am mediteranean looking, so if I get a taxi to those bars, I should be OK, right, or not?

There are a string of bars and clubs on Avenida Espana with food carts in-between them. The street was packed with people and cars playing loud music it was like a large block party. La Avenida Sports Bar is an open air space with several pool tables and a bar on the outdoor space and an inside bar also. There were about 6 servers that were available for takeout none was more than a 6.

I used the term "Belly of Santo Domingo" to refer to areas outside of El Conde, Zona Colonial, Avenieda Indepencia & George Washington. Basically the Santo Domingo that most tourist will not go to. Most of the bars and car washes I reported on are local establishments where it is rare to see tourist. All of the bars look like normal bars for all intensive purposes you would not know they were PFP establishments unless you had past experience or inside knowledge. The car washes speak for themselves because the majority of them have some type of PFP venue attached to them.

I went to all of the venues I reported on late in the evening so I cannot speak to when they open. I found no women to be pushy and the talent level to vary depending on the time of evening and the day of the week. PFP in Santo Domingo is cyclical by that I mean what may be on fire today may be ice tomorrow.

Since you speak Spanish and look Mediterranean you should have no problem. I would encourage you to find a taxista you have a good vibe with negotiate his tarifa and have him take you to the aforementioned venues. It was a rewarding experience for me because I enjoy getting off the beaten path and experiencing authentic Dominican life and culture. Buen suerte hermano!

Once you get off of El Conde you are in a very different world. There are plenty of women who will go out with you but you need to speak Spanish and maybe dance a bit. There are who guys who hook you up. I find that I am way more aggressive when I am in SD. I talk to women and flirt constantly. I usually get really good responces. The women are usually flattered. Being perceived as a rich American is a huge help. Money is very sexy. The Malls are great places to see women but you have to go to the right malls. The Blue Mall and Agora mall are filled with white upscale Dominicans. Great to look but no carry out. The club or discos can be very expensive. You get in but are required to buy a bottle of expensive alcohol. You are looking at a minimum of 80 to 100 bucks. Pulling ladies in the clubs may be possible but I have never come close.

Thanks a lot for your feedback and advice Camero 1257, I will certainly take it on board! Am arriving this Sunday for a week in Santo Domingo and 3 weeks in the DR in total. Oldkool, agree with you totally that Blue Mall and Agora are certainly not great places to pick up talent. When I was there last time in late 2011 I headed to the Megacentro mall in Santo Domingo Este a couple of times. Shoppers there much more representative ethnically of the city than in the above-mentioned snobbier malls. One woman there noticed I was checking her out, she came over and gave me her number. Came to meet me the next day in Gazcue. So, it's not like you can pull women there like crazy, but I did get a few chicks checking me out, and got a date from one of them. I also noticed that the streets nearby on the way back to the centre looked pretty lively, may check them out on this trip. Oldkool, are there any other malls or shopping areas apart from these three with more working class dominicans which you would recommend, maybe north or west of the centre?
