DIA girls, like girls everywhere, vary. Some are looking for cash, others gifts (e.g. shoes, bags, clothing, perfume), and others will be for free. If you check DIA profiles you'll read that most are looking for a long-term relationship leading to marriage, but don't take these words to heart. There are a rare few who will post on their profiles that they are looking for fun with a generous man. It's through messages and conversations (skype, ym) with the girl will you be ultimately able to determine what she's genuinely looking for and what she'll accept.

I know this may be a stupid question, but I was wondering if it's a bad idea to plan a trip to Manila in July?

I know it's the rainy season-I had planned to take a trip earlier this year but I had to put it off. So my options are to go in July or wait until Dec / Jan. I guess I'm just wondering how bad the city is during the rainy season. Any suggestions?

I'll be there July 18 rain or shine. December, too.

It is hot most of the time. But July through August is monsoon season. I got stuck twice over a period of 15 years, and I have to be in Hong Kong in July for meetings. I always fly through Manila. So, it will rain. And it does not prevent the girls from coming out. Some of best scores were in July at Havana.

Most DIA girls are there looking for husbands wether they are out bartering or not. So, what you give them completely depends on the kind of relationship you develop with that girl. My only recommendation is, don't be cheap. That is not nice, especially when you are going down there to screw their brains out and never see them again.

The girls, have to travel to you. And it is not cheap for them to come to you. It costs money, probably anywhere between 200P to 500P. That might be very little for you, but it is lot of money to them. If you are the compassionate kind, you'd give them some money to cover taxi, jeepney etc and maybe a little bit more money for goodwill. I usually give them betwen 2K to 5K depending how much I got in my wallet, and how the whole experience was. And more when they are with me for longer periods of time. I am generous, so you do not have to follow what I recommend here. But a minimum of 2K should be ok. Others probably could give you a better idea here.

I bring them chocolates and stuff, if they asked in advance, otherwise I do not give them any gifts. Money works better, and I do not have to shop and carry things I don't want in my carry-on. If you stay long, go out to dinner or lunch.

I am sure others will tell something different. Read all of them, and decide for yourself. Also, do please read past comments and reports. There is a lot of good information here written by some good gentlemen.

Depends. It's a given that there will be flooding in areas during every rainy season; if an hyper monsoon or super typhoon blows through it'll be severe and quite widespread. (Read about typhoon Habagat and typhoon Ketsana.) But life goes on here. It'll wreak havoc on transportation and the knock on effect will be many girls won't be able to get to the bars or your hotel. Keep in mind that in every disaster there are opportunities too. But calamities such as these don't happen every rainy season. If you're quite risk averse your safest bet for the nicest weather (little rain and pleasant temps) is Dec through Feb. More mongers visit then too. If you visit in Dec do so either before or after Christmas. It has been noted often that the 30 days leading to Christmas are often excellent because so many women are looking to supplement their incomes for those Christmas presents they need to take back to the provinces for their 1 to 2-week stay.

I stopped by EDSA one night during a typhoon and the place was dead customer wise but to my suprise it was filled with girls very eager to get the hell out of there. I did not "entertain" them though as I had a date awaiting me at Greenbelt 3 and just stopped in to say hi to friends.

Last August Manila suffered from a hanging habagat that sat for many days, sucking up water from the South China Sea and dumping it on the other side of the rotation on Manila and other parts of Luzon. So rain is the principal hazard to plan for in July and August.

I agree with D Cups' strategy. Just go and enjoy. Bring a sturdy but portable umbrella. One of the principal effects is that streets flood, especially along the curbs, since most are designed with a crown in the center. Take off your socks and shoes, roll up your pants, and wade. Wash off later because Manila runoff often carries nasty stuff. Be gallant by offering to carry your lightweight Filipina cargo across the deep water. Or pay a pedicab operator to bicycle you across the deepest water.

Or do as XMan often recommends: go to Cebu, which is relatively free from the worst of the storms.
