Anyone know any good hotels near the action that has nice mini suites or studios, or room big rooms like superior at Metropole or Pattaya Bay Resort. I prefer a nice big room but a lot seems to be booked up and I arrive on 1st Nov.

Could not recommend this "hotel" to anybody.
I might be picky but:
1. They do not take credit cards (not mentioned on the website), room has to be paid in cash
2. They demand a 500B deposit on check-in (not mentioned on the website) - they brand it as a boutique hotel but acts like a back packers hostel.
3. You pay upfront when you check in and this is non-refundable so if you decide to leave early, as I did, you forfeit what you have paid.
4. The rooms are small in my opinion - some clever photography used in the website photos. The bathroom in my room was a very small wet room. There was very little room to take a shower without standing with legs astride the toilet.
5. It is noisy both from inside the hotel and outside. Outside noise is expected and accepted due to its location but the noise inside from other rooms was not - other guests voices, TVs, girls from Heavens Above in the corridor. Very low internal sound insulation.
Apart from the above, the room was clean and if you really do want to be at the centre of the night life then the location could not be better.

It's more of a family type of place. I wouldn't recommend it, its quite far from walking street. It's in a hilly/resort area were theres kinda only one way out. The baht buses out there have a monopoly, they will refuse to take you out of the hotel area for less than 100baht, they will ask for 150baht. Far cry from baht bus fares.
For what you want, I would pass. I was with a s/o so it was fine for me. Pool, Beach, etc.

fewer arrivals this year because of the global financial crisis.So room rates may not go up say 50% this time and more rooms are available.Is it true?
This year Paradise Hotel tells me high season started October 15 and will be like that forever....I thought high season starts November first.
Any seasoned traveller here care to comment?

Each hotel has its own policy and determines when the high season starts and ends for them. You can check various hotel rates on several websites and the high season periods should be clearly indicated in most cases.

Thanks for the inof. Glad i didn't book it. I've just eventually today managed to get a nice big Superior room (basically a big studio) in LK Metropole due to a cancellation. Great hotel.
Got 5 girls lined up already. 4 days to go!! (not that I'm counting) :-)

Do they still have very limited amount of TV channels? I don't go to thailand for the TV but coming from america I like to keep up with what's going on , especially business stuff . Last time I stayed there they only had about 12 channels.
I heard there's alot of construction, are there rooms to avoid it?
Does anybody have any experience with this place? It is a little bit off track, but otherwise looks too good to be true.
18 sqm room with TV, aircon, fridge, bath/shower, toilet, Wifi (he doesn't mention it on his website) from 390 Baht, girl friendly.
400m from Carrefour (between 3 third road and Sukhumvit).

He has about 150 rooms all between 18 and 70 sqm (between 390 and 900 Baht).
To me the major (and only) setback on the first view is that one needs a motorbike (Which is to be had for 150 Baht per day) or a taxi for getting back. (Walking from Beach Road would be around 20 minues I guess).

How far is it?
Less than one block to the beach and another 6 blocks to the beginning of
Walking Street.

The TVs go to 99 channels, but I believe most repeat a couple of times and there's only 30 something available.

Soi 13 is very close to walking street -- a walk of less than 5 minutes.
