Just Back from Cali & Saw My First Dead Body EVER (Bloodied Victim of Crime)
Never in my life had I seen a gruesome site like that (I could have never been a cop, paramedic or cop), a mangled corpse just laying there at the side of the road. My gfirl was quite shook upo and couldn't sleep. Not the kind of thing I found erotic either, unlike certain masters of literaure that found some sensual turn on from morbidity. But I digress. This was not on the Sexta, but it was not in Mojica or Agua Blanca (the most hard core barrios) either.
American cities have dangerous districts, but how many of you guys go to crack row in those places? Jags, I know English is not your primary language and I respect you fopr partricipating in a foreign tongue. That sais, your logic is lacking. You do not SEE the guns because they are tucked in wastebelts and shoulder holsters. That does NOT mean they are not there.
Everybody has their own opinions on just how dangerous it is. I know my friends that live there are both worried and cautios, but they know no other way. As I have said many timesw, each must decide his own risk tolerance for himself. But being aware of what is going on, meaning NOT being drunk while walking around and understanding what people are saying iaround/about you is CRITICAL to minimizing the risk to your personal safety you take every time you leave the hotel in Cali.
Quality at the casas was WAY down, particularly Kaliente, and Frescas prices are now 20 entrada, 130ST onsite, 60 takeout (plus the girls will want at least 150K).
Too short a trip, and LOTS of flying on PACKED aircraft (Summer SUCKS for travel IMHO), but I get Colombia withdrawl symptoms without my monthly (or bimonthly) fix.
Finally, thanks to FREZE for tricking me into meeting his longtime friend and WSGer K-Dog who turned out to be quite a nice guy despite being a Republican. We flew back together and chatted quite a bit (but not about politics-WolfyBaby is still the ONLY rightwinger with whom I can talk politics with without getting hot under the collar).
Pardon the typos: I'm still WAY Jetlagged from 22 hours of travel
California to Cali via Boston is not the suggested route, but it IS good for elite status miles (:
... had my wake up call too ...
Hey Surfer ... good post ...
I can remember being scared to death twice in the US ... once getting lost in the "bad" part of Chicago ... and the other time in a "bad" area of Miami ... both at night.
But ... nothing campares to seeing a kid ... probably in his early twenties, being executed in Medellin ... right outside my girlfriend's family casa in Medellin a couple years ago.
Last week in Medellin I was invited to another chica's casa for dinner ... her mother showed me fotos of her 2 boys ... who were 17 and 19 years old ... they were both in coffins ... killed seperately, a year apart, in the barrio.
She said that her children are on loan from God for only a short time.
I realize I'm writing about Medellin, however, Colombia is Colombia ...
Watch yourself ... and number one rule ... at least for me ... make as many friends as possible ... NEVER make enemies.
Suerte!
I have to side with Grobo
I am from Kentucky Surfer. Not sure about the non-English comment. Maybe I had some typos. As you do also.
Everyone dies. It's how you live that counts. Sure it's more dangerous. Decide why our going and if it's worth it.
Obviously you and Anti have made the decision it is worth it because you are there all the time.
I think everyone knows Colombia can be dangerous. Not really a debate here. I posted the actual numbers for murders. I will also be willing to bet gun ownership is higher in the states. Much higher.
