It is usually 24 - 26 hours for me to get to BKK so I do not want to wait around for a bus as by then I am burnt out. One time my connection to a Thai Air flight out of LA got cancelled for 24 hours so my travel time was only a 18 hour stretch and I took the bus no problem.

This is a forum where the majority is a visitor, otherwise this forum would be called Thai expatriates, and over half of the topics would be non existing.
Therefore as you state your opinion maybe pointing out that you prefer the bus as you are a resident, would clarify the situation.
A visitor might not be comfortable to save less than a 1000baht and having to deal with changes etc.
As a resident I would still privilege my own comfort, and if I can't afford it, I skip the trip but when doing it I'd do it the good way.
Spend the money the way you like it, but let me express my opinion. Taxi takes you from point A to B all the way.
Unless you live in the vicinity of a Pattaya bus stand, I doubt you only have +20 minutes with the bus. And you have to spend money to reach the bus

To me the taxi does not add enough value to justify the difference, as I live in SEA and m flight to Thailand is under 3 hours. The bus runs frequently from BKK and needs under 2 hours.
A way more important thing for me is that I won't fly Airasia anymore because DMK is too far away. And there the price difference is much more than taking a taxi or not.

You can doubt all you want about the 20 minute times saving. I have done the trip both ways numerous times and the taxi does not get you more comfort. It gets you marginal convenience and marginal times savings. My intent in replying to this bull shit in the first place is so newbies understand that the bus in is fact not a bad choice. DO NOT STAY HOME because some know it alls tell you you have to take a taxi. When you arrive by bus a baht bus will either take you within walking distance of your hotel for 20 baht or take you to the door for 50 baht. Public transportation is a good thing.

Having used all 3 methods to get to Pattaya I would say personally the bus from Ekkami is the worst way to travel. There are more people on this bus, the seats are uncomfortable and the air-con is shit. When you reach Patts they drop you at the main station which is outside the town. I have waited 35 minutes for a baht bus (strangely taxi's seem to be non-existent around there). It then took a further 25 minutes to get near walking street. The mini-bus from victory monument is much better, comfortable seats, good air-con, gets there quicker and goes straight along beach road. The only time I took a taxi was during Songkran and that was because the mini-bus would entail a 50 minute wait. No way I was sitting around victory monument for almost 1 hour. The advantage was I could sleep in the back of the taxi, never been able to sleep on the bus or mini-bus. The taxi was definitely the quickest way but also much more expensive, sure I paid 1, 200 baht with the meter. The other two ways are around 120 baht but I personally would always choose Victory Monument mini-bus over Ekkami.

I would sometimes even take the train to the airport and the bus from there. It just needs better timing as they are not as frequent as the ones from Ekkamai.
Now that Air Asis flys to D M airport, could some brother please tell me if taxis are as easy to get to Pattaya and goin rate. Previously I have had all trips via Suvahnabumi and know the ropes from there.

It's always good reading to know all the different modes of transportation.
Everyone has their own opinion of stress, value, budget, comfort, and sense of adventure, IMO I don't think there is a wrong or right answer to whatever transportation vehicle they desire.
I see great value in taking public, bus transportation.
Private vehicle & Taxi is a lot more expensive but it gets you there with the least amount of stress if you're not familiar the area.
Any body intressted in bar hopping and hunting will be based at soi LK metro, and fairly familiar with Pattaya PM me

Limo is an overstatement, we all know that, it is a Toyota Camry). Sheeeeeet! I wasted the cost of a beer or two in doing that, what an asshole I am. Now I know why I was thirsty when at the airport.
