Recommendations on Davao, Matina Area
Hi,
I'll be in town in a few weeks with family.
I'm looking for reasonable hotel and/or condotel that can sleep 5 (3 adults and 2 toddlers). Looking decent place, no cock roaches, clean.
Also, looking for a Dentist to do a few crowns and maybe teethwhitening.
Last on my list, a good tailer to alter a few suit jackets. What would that cost? Take in jacket (size 50 to 44 or somthing) and waist in slacks.
Any good massage places fro extra service while waiting for alterations?
Thanks
Another Saturday night...
Tonight my lady and I met another guy from this forum at Farfalla. This is his first trip to Davao, and he said that the restaurant was the nicest in which he'd eaten in this country. We had a great time, arriving about 7:30 and leaving about 10:30, finishing off the meal with espresso and Calvados. The bill for the three of us was about Php4200 with tip. Here's some news that will make DS happy. Celina, the owner, told me that she's ordered a bunch of French reds, since the two of us had asked for them repeatedly, and that they'll be in next month. Also in the good news category is that she's going to begin serving cassoulet with duck confit next month.
Celina also told me that there's a new, high end "Mediterranean-style" resort opening this year on Samal. She may manage the kitchen. According to her, it's going to be "very European," and "designed for the foreign market," which means we'll be able to avoid chicken adobo, pancit, and the other "delicacies" of Filipino cuisine. This could be excellent, since it also means there will be a decent place, no more than 30 minutes from Davao, to escape for an overnight out of the city.
After leaving Farfalla, in an effort to show our new friend something of the city, and some likely spots to chase women, we drove over to Someplace Else/De Bonte Koe/The Patio, on Rizal St., but to give him the full flavor of the hunting possibilities, we took the long way around, and cut up Torres St. The line of traffic along the street, disgorging passengers streaming toward the various bars was impressive. We saw crowds of people heading both into the bars, and walking down the street toward the Auto Shop complex (another hunting ground), located a couple of blocks away off of Bajada Road. The women were indeed out in force, and remember, it was only about 10:40 by this time. I'm quite sure the crowd swelled as the hour got later.
By the time we got to the outdoor terrace areas outside of De Bonte Koe, where that restaurant, the Patio and Someplace Else converge, the entire terrace was almost full. By the time we left, shortly after midnight, there were no seats available that I could see, and it was open hunting season; lots of women (and young guys) some with dates, some without. I think it would have taken me about 15-30 minutes to have cut one from the herd. There were just so many, and so many adorable ones, that the odds would have been in my favor.
Surprisingly, when we passed the Rizal Promenade/Bar 184 area, it wasn't as full as I've seen it in weeks past. As I've observed before, I guess that the huge terrace area down the street that we had just vacated has drawn some of the crowd away.
We left our new friend in the midst of the huge crowd, since due to my advanced years and my ineligibility to play the game, I decided that I had had my fill of being a spectator. For those who remain on the active roster however, the playing field was lush.
