It really sucks to go to the redlight district in the winter since it takes forever to get dressed and undressed when you get one of the window girls I have found... Plus less hot touristas to check out in the winter too, but also fewer drunken and high scum bags roaming around in the winter which is a big plus.

In winter there are less tourists and cheaper hotel prices. Have you seen the pictures of AMS in spring and summer when the tourist hordes descend. Forget about it. I won't go in summer.

I have been to AMS at least 10 times in February and early March because I use the city as a 3 or 4 day stopover on my way to and from Asia (BKK). The temperature varies from lows of 34 to highs of 42 Fahrenheit and it is usually damp like a cold wet bog. Once or twice I was treated to light snow. I love it. Just dress warm like you are going skiing in Aspen and you will be fine. The pros: walk into any coffee shop; no waiting in line, same for the window girls and they keep their room’s toasty warm around 80 degrees, and again the best rates for hotels. No cons as far as I am concerned.

Unfortunately, I have not been back to Amsterdam since 2006. For me it is the preferred route to Asia but the ticket prices have gotten out of hand since 2007. I can fly Miami to Newark to Hong Kong for $900 on a 1 stop 19 hour round trip flight. The flight from Miami to BKK or Hong Kong with the AMS stopover is now $1800 round trip or double the other flight. That is the only reason I have not been back to Ams in February since ’06.

1. Yes, loads. When I go for work I stay at Radisson on Rutland which is a business travellers hotel right next to the Red Light District. Depends on your budget. Stay there for work so don't know prices, check expedia.

2. Yes. I asked the forum recently for some good numbers to call since there are brochures in your hotel room but that tends to be for escort services that are expensive and googling "amsterdam escort" was bound to not work.

Warmmoess straat rings a bell. RLD right there. Obviously book a hotel for your first night, take a walk down to Warmmoess st, you will probably be bypassing it in any case. Don`t recall any hotel names, have not been for some years.

Renting a kamer is 100 Euros per night, so the girl needs to do at least two customers just to break even.
