It's more like 0-5 minutes wait to get the Tourist Card - 5 minutes only if you are in the back of a full plane and one of the last to get off. Relax, get it when you arrive - and don't pay extra for it - It's $10 in country.

Thank you to the fellow sportsmen who gave input regarding the home bought money exchange program. It is good to know that the Greenback is still respected in the D.R. My usual destinations are Saint Martin and Montreal, however with the Looney flying at the same altitude as the Eagle, North of the border is not such a bargain anymore. The Euro of course is now so high as to be rediculous. For those of us using the currency of the realm, We can only hope that things change soon.

The DR Peso is one of the few currencies around that is actually falling against the dollar. You won't find too many other FX exchange rate graphs that look like this one against the dollar nowadays - Costa Rica and Argentina are just about the only other ones in mongering destinations:

The only places you can find Eastern European girls in the DR are the overpriced places you mentioned.
(But why look for Russians in the DR? Like looking for pizza in a Chinese restaurant).
As they say, when in Rome, - sample the ROMAN women.
Seriously, unless you have something against brown-skinned honeys, try the Dominican girls!
If this is your first visit, seriously consider Blackbeards. Its way cheaper than the others and a great first-time choice.

However, I am not sure if Blackbeard is right for me, from what I heard, it's not one of those all inclusive resorts, and since it's going to be my first time to DR, I really hope everything is handed to me without hassel such as negotiating prices, which I am not good at even in English.. lol

I think one of the few things on the site that you will find a complete consensus is that BB is the best place for a first-timer, precisely because evrythign IS so controlled.
In fact, the most common criticism is that it is for those that need to be
"spoon-fed" and like shooting fish in a barrel. Too easy.

The prices are more or less fixed and there is a good variety of girls that have been screened to eliminate problems like theft, scams, and disease. Admittedly white girls are few, but this is the DR, where they are a minority.
I think for the price it is just what you would be looking for, for a fraction of the price of a so-called all-incusive. Yes, you pay separately for your bar, meals, girls, - but that allows you a bit of freedom that the all-inclusive doesn't provide. Should you choose to sample the food - or a girl elsewhere, you are free to do so. Or, you don't even have to leave the hotel for your entire stay, unless you choose to, its all on-site.

For the first time, its your best choice.

I calculated that it was way cheaper than all-inclusive and a hell of alot more relaxed and very enjoyable. BB is safe and makes for a relaxed atmosphere. The girls are great and I never had one girl try to rip me off. Like stated above the freedom of leaving BB and sampling food and girls outside is also a plus. Great choice!

Good Luck.[/QUOTE]I feel here to jump in to defend these "over-priced" places a little I have been a regular visitor to Vikings, and am back for my 10th trip in 3 weeks. Over the time I have been to Vikings I have met some stunning girls and had a fantastic time. OK it is expensive, and not in everyones ballpark, however, I feel it unfair to put people off them. If it is in your price range you would have a great time, the girls are some of the most stunning around (I personally amnot really attracted to the DR girls and really have a thing for East Europeans) and on the whole they treat you like a king.

I have had a couple of not so great girls there, but most have been fantastic, the villa is great, the staff go out of their way to make your time there fantastic, and the management very very good.

If I get time when back from next trip I will write a report on it.

I have been looking at flights to Puerto Plata from Europe and they are very expensive, its nearly 700 dollars cheaper to fly to Santo Domingo. Can anyone advise a few methods of transport from SD to PP and associated costs please?

Would you recommend I stay in SD for a few days as well?
