Oh, funny joke about slipped something in my drink, I LOL for about 1/2 second. Your generally statement about "The local Expat community practically lives there!" is dead wrong. I am an informed Expat and I never go there. Also, I know other Expats, some go, some stay away. Therefore, your blanket statement is way off the mark.

And yes, I am talking bout the go go bars and the freelance bars. Go go bars are more of the rip off, I will agree with you on that point. However, the freelance bars are way over priced for sex. If you think you are getting a good deal for sex at these places, by all means, continue to go there.

Who do you think are going to these places, certainly not mostly tourist, it is mostly local Chinese guys going there and enjoying a dark skinned women. Again, your statement is not based on fact.

Some guys from other countries come to HK, China, etc., pay too much to bang Asian women, eat some Asian food, sample some of the local Asian beer, stay too long in the country, and they think this makes them an expert on Chinese culture.....well it does not. When people revert to calling names, they do so because they have no ability to think logically and discuss a subject intelligently based on facts. Sex is cheaper in Mong Kok but it is wham bam. Lots of foreigners like to go to Wanchai cause you can have a beer and flirt with the gals even if you have no intention of shagging them. Most guys just don't walk into a bar, pick a gal and go out for a quickie. And they speak English. There are now a lot more older Chinese guys going to places like Neptune for a drink.

As for what guys spend at a KTV. I know guys that are wealthy enough that they will book a private room at a KTV to play pool and drink whre there is a minimum charge of $15k and not take the hostesses out at all. But for them $15k is like spending $100, so how is someone worth millions and has more money than you can shit, a dumbass. There are guys out there that will pay $100k for a night with a HK actress, and I am sue that she only has 1 pussy.

there are many different places to go out and get laid in hong kong. all of them have their place in the market. pricing at them is a function of location, their target market, language of service, what services are provided and girls.

wan chai is not the most expensive area in hong kong rather the second most. the most expensive would be some of the nightclubs in east tsim tsa tsui (and the few hidden away in causewaybay). if you want service in english it is the best place to go. i am not saying you won't find service in english in other areas just that it will be more difficult.

if you have read my previous posts you will see that i play around in all areas of hong kong from 8 mong kok road to the high class nightclubs (i even wrote a lengthy set of instructions for how other expats can enjoy the high class night clubs and not be scared off by them). all have their place. i tend to go to wan chai the most as i live on hong kong island and i like chatting in english. the majority of times i go to wan chai i do not pick anyone up but am just out having drinks with buddies.

a few misconceptions that should be cleared up. lots of local expats hang out in wan chai and by expat i mean 100% gweilo (white western men). wan chai is not always overly friendly to other races.

i have taken a few chinese peers out before and showed them wan chai and they have been blown away but they don't feel comfortable going with out someone like me and prefer to stick to nightclubs or macau.

perhaps why undercoverth is so down on wan chai is he is half chinese and unfortunately a fair number of the girls are racist. also i recall reading that undercoverth saying he is quite proficient in cantonese so that makes it easier to access some other places that some people limited to just communicating in english will not try. (as an aside i imagine being an abc and mixed in hong kong makes it difficult to fit in as one is not really a local but not really an expat. the hardest people we find to keep in our office are 100% abc, cbc, etc as often they get frustrated and move back to us, oz, canada, uk. the combination of language skills and western education they bring is of tremendous value for employers).

saying to avoid wan chai because it is expensive and locals will not go there is like saying to avoid p. burgos in manila or soi 33 or soi cowboy in bangkok as most local thai will not go there. lots of the expats who live in bangkok visit those places.

wan chai is quite safe. (hong kong in general is exceedingly safe). there is the occassional thing that happens there but stuff happens anywhere there is pay-for-play. i would say in my experience mong kok has far more incidents but i feel very safe in mong kok as well.

if you are an english speaking tourist through town new to asia i would recommend wan chai as the first place to get acquainted with the scene here or if you are an expat making decent coin wan chai can be a fun place to hang out and occasionally pick up. for people with money to burn or on expense accounts the night clubs in east tst are an experience although the ones in macau are much better in my opinion. for the more adventurous 141, saunas and other *****houses in jordon through sham shui po can be a fun time.

oh since this originally started in saying how dumb expats are throwing money away in wan chai i just thought of something. there is a particular members only club in central where the girls are white women and it is significantly more expensive than wan chai. as any expat who has lived here for a while knows white women are real easy lays in hong kong as most of the expat men have yellow fever and are off chasing asian women so they are starved for attention and easy to get in the sack. despite that fact there are local men spending small fortunes at this particular venue. i can understand it as it is very difficult on average for them to get with white women so i do make fun of any of them for spending what in my opinion seems to be far more than they should.

If you are looking for women during CNY I would suggest Thailand or the Philappines. Everyone goes home for CNY and spends time with family. It is like asking where would be good to go in the USA during Christmas. That does not mean the scene will be completely dead just much slower than normal. Wan Chai I imagine would be full of maids as there are so many off days and so many of their employers will be away on holiday. Macau might be busy as people may go there for holiday.

I just can't believe Undercover is suggesting to a Newbie to avoid Wan Chai. I, like you, have done 99% of the sex scence in HK from the dirty filthy Mongkok brothels to the karoake where you spend 3K+ and get nothing. The local guys in my office despise Wan Chai for the reasons I described. They think they are above socializing with 'maids' or equivalents.

Imagine telling a Newbie that gets off a 20hr flight that they should head up to Mongkok for a 20 min wham bam and then go back to the hotel room? Most newbies want to have a good time which entails drinking, chatting and having a laugh. Perfect for Wan Chai scene and in fact the ONLY reason to discourage Wan Chai for a newbie is that it may totally distort their outlook on life and never go home


Part of the 1% scene which I don't partake in is what you also described. The 'white girl' market that the locals go nuts over. I remember a few yrs back I was set up with an English girl who was a model for one of the top international modelling companies in HK. I had absolutely no interest in her even though we got along ok and saw each other quite a bit. That would have been free for me (of course excluding the costs of normal 'courting'). However I have seen local Chinese guys pay 4-10K HKD to hideous looking white chicks in the 'hostess' bars in HK. Is that where the Newbies should be directed?

And let me make this very clear. The reason why Wan Chai has good value is I don't mind paying twice what I would pay in Mongkok or 141. In fact its cheap since at least I know if its relatively early in the night I know I will be the ONLY guy who plugged this girl today. Most girls are happy with one 'trick' per day in Wan Chai.

MKK, 141 etc you are going into territory where you share the pussy with possibly 10 other guys that day. For a guy who loves DATY and hygiene , Wan Chai is a bargain when you factor this in.

I like to see how different countries and cultures party. If I was to tell someone where to go in the US for Christmas or New Years I would say at least check out Times Square once in your life. The tree at Rockefeller Center and Times Square. But if freezing your ass off and being in big crowds is not your thing. They for sure Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

I, for one, am glad that you're misinforming newbies. Keep the tourists away from Mongkok or 141s so the price stays low for the rest of us who truly knows where the values are.

The truth is, only truly ignorant people would monger in Wanchai bars....unless you're into maids. Otherwise, if you're interested in sex, you get far better quality for lower prices elsewhere.

Nobody pays $3,000 to get "nothing". You're assuming people aren't rational with their money...a very poor assumption if you know anything about the mentality of your typical money-motivated Hong Konger.
