Major Trouble at Sosua Bay Resort
I just returned from Sosua (SBR) , and I stayed at the Sosua Bay Resort for the 3rd time. However, it was the worst stay this time. First, they never returned my emails to make reservations and when I made calls. I arrived on Thursday evening, Feb. 16 at 5pm. When I arrived to SBR, the staff seemed as if they were going through motions with expressionless faces. When I got to my room in the monger section, I checked the sheets as I do in all hotels, and I found chica hair on the sheets. But the room phone didn't work, so I made the 5 minute walk to the front desk and made a complaint to the front desk by a grumpy maid. This took a hour.
Second, when I showered the drain in the tub didn't work. So I was wading in shin deep water. Because my phone didn't work, I had to walk to the front desk to complainabout that. As for the phone, I was told that non of the room phones were working in my section of the building (5) because of wiring. Each issue I chose to do before I settled down and unpack.
Third, the next day many people complained about not having towels. Folks complained about clean towels being removed by the maids, and one fella said he had no clean towels for 3 days. Also many rooms were half or not cleaned.
After asking staff why is the service so bad, I was told by people I know at the front desk, maids, restaurant, and security that they have not received pay for 3 months. So I guess either there's not enough staff or the employees were doing a work slow down to protest their lack of pay.
Also some people had no water at times, and there was a sewage problem. You can smell sewage in the hallways and some rooms.
I don't think I will be stay at Sosua Bay Resort on my next trip. Unlike Terra Linda, where I stayed on two occasions, Sosua Bay Resort wants full payment up front. So if you have a problem with the hotel, you already paid and will lose out if you change hotels.
Concerning Fact vs Opinion
I'm not condoning this, I'm actually condemning this. But last week I did see a guy about 25 years old eating at Big D's on the beach with 3 extremely young ladies, girls even (est. 14-17). And nobody batted an eye except for me. He was drinking a beer and they were drinking Cokes. He was all over the oldest one. She even called her mom while they were there but I couldn't make out what she was telling her.
Mr E I commend you on condemning this predatory behavior by the poster which he blatantly admitted to.
Concerning the beach matter-You are making too many assumptions.
What bothers me is that this predator is allowed to post and even be on this site-some guest reading that post and the replies, who were giving advice like "meet in a public place". Might be inclined to think this is a predator site to some extent. And that doesn't bode well for people who are here to post and converse about LEGAL ADULT ONLY information and perspectives. There are people who read this site and loathe us-mainly because of jealousy-I don't think we should give them ammunition for their "Holier than Thou" agenda.
To the moderators-please screen posts like the one being discussed more carefully-it should have never been posted and the poster should be banned-IMO-Zedman
I guess that is aimed at me. I think I would have done better to simpler have ignored his post but I was trying to be non-abrasive. I will revert to my normal abrasive mode of response in future. Yes, of course you are right. I was wrong to even respond. Boards like this should simply ignore such discussions and the mods should delete the original post.
I was taken back that anyone replied to his post and got a little carried away calling the respondents stupider than the Predator (which is what he is).By acknowledging your mistake it is self-evident you are not stupider.
Thanks for the feedback man.
I may be wrong, but I don't think Hispaniola Beach condos are quite where you suggest. I think they are next to Infiniti Blu, off Calle Alejandro Martinez, although Pedro Clissante does run out into Alejandro Martinez at the end, so maybe that is what you mean. I don't think you would need a car, but it might be handy to rent a passola (scooter) , although if you are fit, it is within easy walking distance of the main entertainment district, plus you can use motoconchos. There are a few restaurants and bars in that area. I would say it is not dangerous to walk back there at night, because I have never heard of tourists being attacked while walking at night in Sosua and I have done it a lot myself. One of the reasons why I don't think it is dangerous is that there are armed nightwatchmen with guns sitting all over Sosua at night at hotels, banks, and businesses, and they are usually suspicious of any unusual activity in their zones of interest. To that extent I would say it is safer to walk around at night than in the US or the UK.
However don't be surprised if someone else on the board chips in and says that it IS dangerous. There is always more than one opinion.
However, since the condos no doubt have security, you might want to check out their policies on guests. Most likely they allow one per day and will hold the I'd papers of the visitor in the guardhouse during the visit.
None of the other hotels are really ideal, but the Sosua Beach Club hotel at the non inclusive wing might be your best bet. Terra Linda is supposed to be nice inside, but in a somewhat crummy area and I imagine there would be a lot of traffic noise there. Power, Internet, and water outages are a fact of life anywhere in the DR. Better class accommodations do have backup generators, but broken water pipes can occur anywhere, and hotel wi-fi is always iffy and may go from excellent to barely moving for no apparent reason (maybe other users.) If you want reliable Internet I would definitely recommend buying a Claro prepaid Internet stick, though you might want to try out your hotel's wi-fi Internet first to see if it is good enough to meet your needs. Water is rarely a problem, but don't drink it. Worst case scenario is you have to get a bucket of water from the swimming pool to flush a WC, so don't sweat it.
I think the condo probably would be a good idea if you can afford it. It is nice to have a quiet place with a pool and a beach to go home to away from the prostitution scene.
Frannie,
Thanks for your insight man, and yeah thats exactly what I meant about Calle Alejandro Martinez. (I can tell you know sosua. LOL) I am noticing that this indeed is far enough to merit motorized tranpo, because neither me or my wingman are very athletic or in good shape. LOL I may pursue some of the other rental choices from Hispaniola Real estate that are closer to the action as suggested by other members. (thanks Grandnash, and Hamster 101) The most important thing, is that my wingman has finally realized that the condos are the best choice and now its just a matter of finding the right one.
