I have never gone anywhere without Ya Dom for as long as I can remember. Siang Pure usually because it's more pocket size, but since I have been carrying a murse, I usually have one of the little jars or bottles with me.

Back in the day, we used Vicks Vaporub. Try being around a 6 day floater in the summer without it.

I always carry some toilet paper in my pocket when in Thailand. LOL My Thai buddy says the secret to getting around Thailand without sudden toilet emergencies is to never drink the broth from your noodle bowl. LOL.

I used to like Det5 on Soi 8. Has a nice outdoor seating area with trees strung with lights and swamp cooler misters like they use by the benches in football. When you sit down they give you a nice refrigerated wash cloth. Their Larb Moo & Green Curry were good and plentiful, not really cheap though. Don't know if Det5 is still in operation or not, haven't been back since a few years before the Chyna virus.

You give them cash and they give you a card that you can load up to 500 THB. Hard to spend 200 THB even if you are really hungry. Great movie theater next to Pier 21. There is also a gourmet Thai Food restaurant that has won awards. But I have not eaten there. Terminal 21 is like my second home. I like the place!

There is a giant Christmas tree up outside. I was like, WTF?

At times I've considered carrying a spare pair of under shorts.

Not positive they're open either since when I last walked by the trees and shrubs were very overgrown. Det 5 used to have everything meticulously maintained.

Broth should be fine if it was properly boiled. What people get sick from is ice in your drinks.

I will be visiting Bangkok in December for 1 week, what is the budget you guys recommend? I was thinking maybe 30 or 40 k baht?

Wingman told me a crazy ass story today. He has a kid in Pattaya. So the school set up a savings account for the kids. He sends money when he is not in Thailand so his kid's mom can send it to school for the account. The teacher called and asked his kid's mom if she could borrow some of the money and the mom said no. 3 weeks later when the new semester began, the school called a meeting with the parents and asked if the teacher called anyone asking to borrow money. They advised them that the teacher had been stealing the kids' money. So all the parents had to give a number of how much money they had sent. His kid's mom told him a number that it did not sound like he had sent in total. So his kid's mom had been skimming off the money that was supposed to go to the kid's savings. Did not matter anyway because the teacher stole whatever was left to actually go to the savings. This kind shit does not shock me at all anymore. I already know what we are dealing with. Thailand is truly fucking amazing.

Gogo girls for 7 days 35 k ST to 49 k LT. Thermae for 7 days 17,500. Massage joints around Phrom Phong less than or nearly the same as Thermae. FL's even cheaper. So yes 30-40 k for a week for girls only should suffice if you mix things up.

If you actually want to go out and enjoy Bangkok it's not enough.

Sometimes its pure greed, sometimes its expediency, but yes agreed raiding the kid's piggy bank is not on and if he was being told it was all going to the school then no doubt she's guilty as charged. You mention "it did not sound like what he had sent" so possibility a lost in translation episode? Also I presume quite apart from the savings account at the school he was also supporting her and the kid in some other way. Possible the two got mixed up? If there was no confusion about the actual amount in question what surprised me about the tale was the girl giving a number that was less than what he had sent. If she was being dishonest you would imagine she would have given the same amount he had sent as he was unlikely to be in touch with the school.

To finish may I suggest another rather more cynical explanation. There was no savings account to begin with.

I always find it interesting that individuals expect others to live at standards that are not even held up in their own country of origin. My understanding is that child care payments mandated by court order in the (Dis) United States of America are paid by one parent to the other parent but the use of those funds are not monitored in anyway by the courts. The individual can do whatever they want with the payments at their sole discretion.

Those that come from privilege often do not understand the cultures of those that do not. Especially when visiting.
