Don't know what you have against Rio though. Rio is a blast if you know where to go and what you are doing (it helps if you are willing / able to spend a fair amount of cash).

I don't get it. The beach is 20 wide, stinks, and is dirty. The buses start dropping off the groups as early as 7am some days.

Pattaya has to be one of the worst beaches I have seen for a tourist destination.

Then they take their families to WS in the evening and go to those rip off seafood places.

I spent a few days in Pattaya in late October. It was good. There were still the crazy family tourists, but not many. I could walk down Walking Street at a normal pace. It did not feel crowded. The popular Go Go's had customers, but there were plenty of girls to go around. The Beer Bars were hurting. I will be back in March. I expect it to be a crazy scene. I am thinking maybe from now on I should travel in late September / October / November, avoid the crowds, and bring an umbrella.

I have to agree on your comment on being there over Loy Kratong. I was there for a month covering that holiday and it was a mess. A real mess. The "International" fire works contest out of that barge in front of Central Plaza was good. I had the advantage of staying in VT-6 with a young thing and enjoyed it from the balcony.

However, they do still want and need mongers. Not on Beach Road, but on expensive bars and A-go-go-bars. They made many razzias against freelancers on Beach Road during last couple of weeks. As they get their bribes from bars and A-go-go-bars, they do not touch those establishments. They try to push Beach Road freelancers and customers to expensive bars and A-go-go bars. In the long term, I am not sure Coconut Bar will survive those intensive pressures from authorities.

Guys, a short question. If I take a girl from a bar I pay the bar fine plus whatever I give her. That's fine. If I decide to keep her an extra day or two do I have to pay the bar fine as well as what I give her for each subsequent day / night.

It depends on the girl and how much she likes you or wants to go with you. Negotiate with the girl, some girls will go with you and pay their own BF if you pay them enough or you could catch her close to her (next) day off so no BF would be needed for that day. If you take her for three consecutive nights you should get a better overall rate of the BF and her fee than if you took her out on three separate nights.
