I do enjoy Kuala Lumpur within it's entertainment & mongering limitations. The taxi and their mafia strategies is very irritating and if you allow it, to dampen your enjoyment on a night on the town. Taxis, for the most part are quite small, run down & tight. And the drivers prefer to extort a set fee rather than use the meter. If you allow your irritation to show, it can only get worse. So for the most part, just banter along until you get to a fee that you feel is acceptable. Otherwise, you have to resort to taking the #11 bus, that is, your own 2 feet. For me, most KL taxi drivers are very talkative, and enjoy talking about mongering. So they are an invaluable source of current places & prices.
