Ass Covering
Unfortunately i don't mean the fun kind !!
The British Embassy have also piped up, but far more diverse, an ass covering if ever there was one
"A large political rally is scheduled for 4 February 2006 at King Rama V monument in the vicinity of the national zoo and Parliament buiding in Bangkok. This could cause congestion and disruption. You should avoid large crowds and demonstrations."
SOURCE: BRITISH EMBASSY IN THAILAND WEBSITE
Having said that, 100,000 people are expected, and with all the stuff about insider trading on Shin Corp, i think this guys days are up, and mess on the streets will follow. I certainly won't be going into town on Saturday, theres plenty of soapies on Rama IX anyway :D

Thai Condoms
I keep on reading that we should bing our own condoms because Thai condoms are small. I cannot find a condom at the size of "Durex excita" anywhere else than Thailand so far. It even fits me quite loosely, but I never lost or broke one so far. They come in a black, slightly bigger box at nearly 60 Baht a pack of 3.

Just buy Durex Comfort, they're the largest easily available condoms in LOS.
I buy like twenty packs at a time, never sure if I should be embarrassed or not.

Pressure to Step Down?
Culture Minister Uraiwan Thienthong resigns
Culture Minister Uraiwan Thienthong announced her resignation today from the Cabinet of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, amid growing anti-government sentiment and louder calls for the prime minister himself to step down.
"The current political situation is not conducive and I have to uphold the proper political ethics of good governance,'' she told a news conference.
Many were not surprised at Uraiwan's resignation as there were repeatedly rumours about her possible resignation when her husband, Sanoh, chief advisor of TRT has conflicts with Thaksin.
However her resignation is another blow to Thaksin ahead of a large anti-government rally planned for Saturday.

Personally I don't dislike the PM but like any good politician he has double standards... I believe that his main motivation has been to get rich and help his friends do too. Nothing new or surprising...

More trouble ahead!
From the BKK Post;
"Huge police force to keep eye on rally
Some 3,000 city police will be deployed to keep law and order at an anti-government rally planned for tomorrow at the Royal Plaza by media firebrand Sondhi Limthongkul and his allies. Another 10,000 police will also be on stand-by during the demonstration."

Tiger,
the Thai brands are indeed very small and not reliable.
Durex of course is of very good quality and is usually sold in three different sizes : 49, 52 and 54.

Those of you wishing to know more about our beloved leader would be wise to read "Thaksin, The Business of Politics in Thailand" (Chris Baker, Pasuk Phongpaichit).

It's quite a read isn't it? :)
I read that sometime last year. It's a pretty valuable investment guide for any of you guys that have access to the SET. There is a complete breakdown of all the companies Thaksin controls. I wouldn't want to put any of my money in his competitor's companies. The book defty illustrates the stock price underperformance of his competition.
I just love the photo of him carrying the flag on that triumphant day he declared his victory on the war on drugs. I guess the married couple on Soi PhaiSingTo that sell yaba all day and night are safe because the picture of the policeman on their wall is a friend of Thaksin the all mighty. It's such a lovely world. :)

Juice,
as far as I remember he was already the richest man of Thailand - so he was already rich by Thai standards - when he got elected.
-
Yeah, Mister T has been mega-rich for years.
