The office is way out in the boondocks and I'm told the waiting time is insufferable. I've been living here for almost 6 years now and haven't got around to it yet. It's easier to just pay the fines; better yet to avoid the checkpoints by knowing where they are and when the cops are there.

I did go to the office in Phuket with two perfectly valid D / Ls accompanied by their respective International carnets, for the purpose of avoiding at least the driving test, as Thai regulations allows. Under various excuses they would not accept either one. I got to understand their attitude (take long time), cut my losses to the cost of immigration address certification and medical certificate, and forgot about it, for now at least.

Every bike has 3rd party insurance meaning that they will pay for the damage you do in an accident,
Even to the person riding pillion on your bike, but only if you have a valid license.
The license is also a valid I. D. And quite easy to get. It took me one day for both motorbike and car.

I usually go at 11am. But first you have to go to immigration with copy of your lease to get the residence paperwork and you also have to go to a doctor to get a medical letter. You must have a copy of all you documents for each type of license you wish to apply for.
First night, some highlights:
- getting rejected at Baccara (or is it Battara) because I was on the Japan / Korea / School girl floor.
- have to give it to those guys, there where making it rain non-stop with those ping ping balls for about 45 minuets after arriving, and fully committed to the place by ordering champagne, whiskey, etc.
- got a BJ in the bathroom at soi 6 in a gogo for 1000 bt (I told the girl I had a hotel very far away)
- was taking aback by the cost / benefit ratio of the Russian bar on walking street, for some reason I thought they would have had hotter Russian girls, but this tendency is the same in London and Germany.
- managed to get another one from the hotel (five star) , it some convincing, although this may have well been a show put on in order to increase the tip.
- a few times in the night the mamasans charming laser pointer, very disappointingly, missed the cutest and youngest girl dancing. Maybe because she was spoken for? Or are there gogos that are really only that? Need to investigate this further.
Question for the veterans: when you negotiate price and services with the gogo girl, it is necessary to specify 'smoking' whiteout? Or is this assumed, as in some of my beloved fkk place?

Can you tell us more details about this? Did they reject you because of your race or other reason?
I called over a girl. She was happy enough to accept a lady drink. But then the rising sun "ballers" started making ping pong balls rain, then one of them ran on the dance floor and threw about 30 100 baht notes into the air as if he was starring in some cheesy rap video from Atalanta. Then they started giving full buckets of ping pong balls to individual girls, I think this is a 2000 baht value, although she will spot her mama san and the older ***** that protects her some. At this point the very young looking girl took one hard look at me, and suggested I meet her friend, whom she called over, and left.

If you are referring to bike owners having automatic insurance through their yearly registration of their bikes that if one is in a accident it is covered? Reference to 3rd party would mean to me that a individual has gone out and purchased this insurance from a agent? If this is the case you are dead wrong? Many Thais can't even afford to change the oil every 4 thousand Km?

well, on my way to walking street. last night slightly after 8pm, came down pattaya tai, to 3rd road. like most often a driver in a car had the left turn lane block because he wanted to go straight, after some work i work my way up to the front but this was going to be a long wait for the light now?
as many farangs have complaint that the sign in thai and english for making a left is unclear to farangs. for myself, the way it is phrased reads like one should stop and then can proceed to make the left. not ever being sure since i have seen and heard people getting tickets. when i got to the corner i moved forward and looked left to see if there was a cop further down? i saw no one so i made the left after the move it i saw the cop up on the sidewalk back hiding in the dark start to step out to get me. i was in no mood to stop and have to deal with one guy out to make a little extra money since it is near the end of month and most likely his rent is due? i made no hesitation after the turn and shot towards the right and middle of the road to avoid him but his timing and my speed he had no chance of grabbing me. i never turn my head and look back in the mirror watching him stare at me. i made another illegal turn just to spike him never looking back?
lucky me, no ticket this time but they year is still early?
