Safe Sex and Sex Related Discussions in Thailand

Two years ago I met a researcher for WHO who was heading up research in Thailand for HIV and furthermore I have a Doctor friend who is the medical director for the Clinton Foundation HIV program. Both of them independently told me the following about HIV in Thailand:

1. The main HIV problem is still mainly amongst gays and intravenous drug users.
2. Northern Thailand (Chang Mai area) has a higher prevalence of HIV than anywhere else in Thailand.
3. HIV rate amongst prostitutes servicing the Thai local market is in the region of 5% to 6%
4. HIV rate amongst prostitutes servicing the Farang market is around 2% to 3%

I always practice safe sex as I am just too paranoid not too. HIV is not the death sentence it once was and if you follow the retroviral drug program as prescribed then you should live a normal life for 20+ years as people such as Magic Johnson have shown.

Despite the above I reckon you are insane to not practice safe sex although the majority of guys I know who are long term residents do not use condoms. Ask yourself this question: have you ever actually met anyone with HIV? I have not and I am 38 so it may not be as prevalent as we fear.

Sorry this is flawed logic, how would you know if they are or not? It's not like they have a sign on their forehead that reads HIV +. The likelihood is that we have all met people who are HIV positive at some point in our lives, they are just unknown to us.

Using your numbers, if you've met 50 Thai hookers then you've probably met one with HIV. I agree with Piper and Run Man, many people who are HIV positive don't advertise it.

From what I've read, prostitutes and their customers in northern Thailand are what put Thailand on the verge of an AIDS epidemic some years back-- I don't believe it's confined to gays and intravenous drug users.

I have to be honest: from what you write, it's not looking good (two inconclusive tests). Let's hope inconclusive just means inconclusive. And your glimpse of the word "seropositive" on the results doesn't bode well. If it were me, I would have asked a few questions at that point. The test results can be inconclusive if you are on various medications such as antibiotics.

The ultimate study on HIV serodiscordant hetero couples was done by Nancy Padian, et al, chief epidemiologist of UCSFC.

The Padian study which was conducted for over a decade showed that it took an average of 1000 acts of intercourse between a seropositive male and a seronegative female for her to statistically seroconvert. The seroconversion rates from a seropositive female to seronegative male where he seroconverts from sex with his seropositive female partner were even lower.

Your chances of HIV seroconverting from sex is almost non-existent, and there was lots of discussion on Magic Johnson frequenting homosexual bars which the news reporters were starting to snoop around till he retired the 2nd time.

If you are worried, I suggest you wear a full face helmet when you drive as you're far likelier to be killed in an auto accident that HIV seroconverting from having sex with bargirls, and a full face helmet is far likelier to protect your health than a condom is.

This is Thailand Sopwith, it ain't Kansas. The estimated seroconversion rate among customers of hookers for one study in northern Thailand was 5.6%. And that's for female-to-male transmission. Read the introduction to this to get an idea of results from various studies:

I'll admit the chances that you or I will get AIDS from a single act of intercourse with an HIV positive prostitute in Thailand are a lot less than 1 in 20. But your statement above is only true if you wear condoms properly. Or maybe if you only fuck a few women, are circumsized, and don't have an untreated STD or ulcerated penis (and I'd argue over 10% of the farang mongers in Thailand do have an untreated STD and don't know it).

Last time I looked into the issue of HIV transmission by kissing, maybe 3 years ago, it was considered an extremely low risk activity. I suggest that the deeper the smooching, the more dangerous it is, especially with tongues and a lot of saliva.

But of much more concern to me would be performing DATY, BBFS, or the condom breaking or cuming off inside a TG. So I make efforts to try to avoid these things, and even the low risk BBBJ.

Those who think a condom lessens the pleasure of a BJ or FS are just ignorant as to techniques that make it as good or better than going BB. Not to mention the psychological effects of worrying about getting or giving a present during the act.

I believe condom use with providers is a must, but you are kidding yourself if you think the sensation of CFS & BBFS is nearly the same. They are worlds apart.

For example, to illustrate by a similar example, if you've ever recieved a balls massage from a lady's hand wearing a latex medical glove, it feels the same as without the glove.

Tip #1. Try putting a few drops of lube on the inside head of the condom.

Tip #2. The condom adds width which can make it tighter inside the lady, and consequently actually improve the sensation.

Tip #3. Getting a genital massage, whether from her tongue mouth or hands, for an hour before condom intercourse, will result in the feeling being just as good or better than w/o a condom.
