Mine is a du card, you can get them at the arrivals area of terminal 1, just as you leave the arrivals area you can go to the left a but and there is a kiosk selling them. I had to go through x ray with my bags and asked one of the Customs guys there where I could get it. Paid either 55 or 75 for sim with a small amount to start then topped it up with an AED 200 card. Haven't used it all yet and the money is still good a couple years since last top up.

By the time I got to the hotel, checked in showered and then put the card in my mongering phone it was activated. (I have a mongering phone and simply switch cards for every where I play.)

Since I am out of Dubai and the phone off for a lot more than I am in Dubai the call back problem simply does not exist for me. If it did a quick AED 55 would fix that problem.

They will take a copy of your passport and visa stamp. What you need is a wasel sim card (PAYG or prepay, same thing) , almost every shop sells top up's.

Du sells PAYG topup cards in smaller and larger amounts, and you choose to either use a card for data or calls at the time of loading. Some older cards still sold do not have the instructions for loading as data using your phone.

Du also allows you to create an online account, which you can use to monitor usage. Useful for my ipad sim. And topup using the PAYG cards.

Your data balance is only valid for a month, a problem for me as I travel into and out of the UAE at irregular intervals. A neat trick is to have some 20 dirham cards with me. If you top up a large balance with the lowest dirham card, your whole outstanding balance gets moved out to another month. So initially buy a 200 dirham cards. Gets you currently around 4gb data, and use a 20 dirham card towards the end of each month.
