I will be in Jakarta for a few nights in April and a few nights in May.

I have 3 nights in April.

Wed at Shagri-la, Thu at Falatehan & Friday at Hotel Mulia.

I have a room booked at Hotel Falethan on a Thursday as I had done before when I worked in Indonesia in 2014.

With the demise of Blok M I am reading about here, I am considering cancelling that reservation and staying elsewhere.

Should I cancel at Falatehan?

I was recently drinking with a buddy from out of town on a random weekday and he heard about Classic, having failed to talk him out of it on grounds of horrible service I figured I'll just tag along for the ride and have a few beers while waiting for him to be disappointed. As it was his first time in a place like that I tried to give him a few points on the ride over, but well. Kids in a candy-shop are hard to control. Him not being able to speak any Indonesian whatsoever didn't help matters either.

Parked on the 5th floor and walked straight into the club. Even before we sat down and ordered our drinks, each of us had 2 girls around us and a swarm of mami's trying to get attention. I was reasonably successful in getting rid of them, but my friend not so much. He was loving the attention and refused any help to get rid of his pembantu looking leaches. But then it isn't called the worlds oldest profession for nothing. OS just spent a fantastic night in favourite Jakarta haunt and my best avice would be to take some time to build a relationship with a good Mami, that's not splashing money around like you are King Pring but being respectful, a good Mami can be your friend. Than accept vision and progress from a leader of the wrong faith. The risk is the further they get left behind the more they need somebody or something to blame.

I have just been back in Jakarta after an absence of a year and a half.

On the second floor of Classic, my old favorite haunt (I like to plough through large volumes of girls), the girls no longer sat on couches along the walls but at the high tables. It was also darker than before and not so easy to see the girls. Mamasans are as pushy as before and now it is a bit more difficult to scan the girls. However, I had quite a nice time there.

King's Cross was a disappointment. Not very friendly. One really has to engage a papa / mamasan to get through to the girls.

Malio was ok, same as before but much fewer girls in the part I used to like (closer to the main road).

Travel was a surprise. I have always found that it had a large number of very attractive girls, but that service was so consistently bad and cold that it must be due to special training aimed at bad service. However, this time it was different. Like many of the other places, Travel was also a little dark. Like Classic they had changed the system, with girls no longer sitting on the fenced off couches, but rather sitting on couches along the wall right by the tables. It was much more interactive, everybody was really friendly and service in the room was consistently great. Towards the end of the evening I was accosted by a girl who really wanted me to take her newbie friend to the room because she thought I would do a nice job of introducing her to the work. Conclusions: I was there too short to draw very strong conclusions, but the impression was fewer girls, slightly less attractive girls on average, a bit more subdued atmosphere, darker but still good fun. Only one girl didn't want BBBJ / French kissing / DATY. I always cleared these things before going to the room and often the response was enthusiastic. The world of mongering is going downhill (not just Indonesia), but hasn't ended yet.

But the fact that the mamasans are not aggressive at King Cross is one of the reasons I like it. When I see a girl I like, I will find a mamasan and get the girl brought over to me. If I don't find a mamasan near, I just walk over to the girl and wave her over to sit with me. There is really no need for a mamasan at that place (or any place for that matter). The girls are easy enough to view there without one.
