So if Pattaya is not as good as other places in the world to practice this sport of mine; then where do you suggest is better? Quantity, quality, venues, beaches, and value. Where should I go!

I find his weekly column to be worthwhile reading, especially for a first time or infrequent visitor.

The last time I was in Pattaya, in 2007, the non-sex tourists were noticeably on the increase and I had no desire to ever go back. I should mention over about 20 years I've spent a fair amount of time in East and SE Asia, on business, not as a sex tourist. Pattaya was a little side trip I'd take from time to time when in Bangkok. I never bothered to keep track of the names and specific establishments. I just knew generally where to find the SW's. So I never had deep knowledge of the place and my opinions are based on a couple dozen one or two day visits spread out over about 15 years.

My motivation was to make it clear to first time visitors that they should do their research and have realistic expectation to avoid disappointment.

For what it's worth, I have a friend who first visited Pattaya in 1968. He flew a helicopter in another SE Asian country back in those days. I grew up with a few other guys who spent involuntary time in the region in the late 60's. They love to talk about sleeping on the beach, eating the best freshly cooked chicken and spending time with the sweetest young ladies. They claims there was no such thing as ST. They'd hook up with a sweetie and be taken care of until it was time to go back to work. They'd give the girls however many baht they had left in their pocket, not knowing whether they'd be back or taking their next trip in a box. The girls were happy with that. Of course these guys were in their early twenties and in pretty good shape from long walks in the countryside carrying a bunch of gear. I get the impression the girls were just happy to spend a few days with a young American GI. They had fun for free and got a little money when they said goodbye. That was enough for them. In the mid 2000's a couple of these guys went back to revisit Vietnam and do a little tour of the region, including Pattaya and Bangkok. They found the changes shocking.

Like I wrote in a previous post, if you have a couple days to spare it's worthwhile seeing Pattaya at least once, but it has changed dramatically over the years.

Stickman was one of a number of fellows who got here back here in the first boom years of international sex tourism (the '90s or so, I forget) and within a few months set himself up online as an authority. His usual line was 'I'm not expert but', after which he'd pontificate like an expert. Then he got married and, worse yet, involved his wife in his website. So his ability to do any real research was pretty much hopelessly compromised, at which point he had to begin relying on outside contributors.

I know he has or at least had fans among tourists and newbies but I don't think anybody who's lived here for a while takes him too seriously. If he doesn't like Pattaya, well that's fine but I suspect he doesn't know more than a small percentage of what goes on there. So my advice to anyone is, check the place out. If you don't like it, that's OK. But at least decide on your own.

Well, come to think of it, I wouldn't call him a journalist. His website is designed to attract advertising; and years ago a senior VP at Viacom told me,"what you call content is just filler in between the commercials." You'll learn far, far more about mongering in LOS on ISG. However, I think his column is one place to get some good information about Bangkok. I think it best serves guys who are just beginning to learn about the city. But hey, you might get lucky, identify the location of one of the photos and win a free burrito! I find it a way to keep up with some of the changes while I'm away, for example: the renovations as NEP, the demise of the artist bars, the proliferation of ladyboy bars in NEP, and some of the changes in names and ownership of bars. His most recent column confirmed that what I began to notice in Pattaya in 2004 and 2005 is far worse now. I can appreciate that a perceptive person who is a long time resident of Bangkok gets limited value out of his column. And some of you may be able to write a better column. I'm serious!

My problems with it are there are far better beaches in Thailand and far prettier SW in Bangkok. But you can get drunk and frequently fucked for far less than in Bangkok. I'd rather book a good looker in Bangkok and a small villa in Hua Hin for a few days and enjoy much better beaches at what I find to be a much more pleasant locale. However, I think it would be stupid or cruel to suggest anyone go to Hua Hin for mongering.

Just don't expect a nice beach and lots of good looking SW; and expect to be gawked at by the throngs of "regular tourist." If it meets your needs, great. Some guys are going to be disappointed unless they have very modest expectations; and it's definitely no longer for me.

He admitted recently that he has never been to Pattaya and never will go. His main reason for this by his own admission is that a Bangkok gogo girl told him that the girls are ugly! Did your friends happen to mention if at that time there were guys the age they are now doing that same thing back then? I seriously doubt there were. The biggest variable is that your friends were young back then. Now they are in what their upper 60s at least?

When I was a young GI, I was stationed in San Diego and would run down to the discos in Tijuana every weekend. Me and my shipmates were able to pick up young chicks by the pound for free. Now that I'm 41 I don't moan about how back then I could go into Tequila Sunrise drinking Dos Equis all night and meet a 19 year old and go to the closest motel, but the place has gone to shit because today it no longer works out that way for me. I would look and feel pretty ridiculous going back to those same clubs trying to pick up 18-20 year-old women who crossed the border to drink and party. But I have no doubt that today there are still guys who are the age that I was back then doing those same things this weekend. These days I instead go the opposite way to the fuck clubs and hooker alley where I know someone of my age is accepted and not out of place.

In the early 1990's and for the next ten years or so I remember it as a compact place filled with nothing but mongers and sex workers. The last time I was there I began to notice increasing number of non-sex tourists who were treating the people working either side of the sex trade as a dirty show to gawk at. The gawkers annoyed me. That alone was not enough to keep me away. It was the just proverbial straw. Equally noticeable and important was a significant decline in the looks and attitude of the SW. Add to that the increasing congestion and I had enough!

I have certainly change; and this may be part of why I like Pattaya less than I used to. Hell, when I was in my 20's I'd get drunk as a skunk in Nassau, pass out on the beach, wake up the next afternoon and think nothing of it. Of course that was in the 1960's. I wouldn't try that today. It started with a few GIs hooking up with few young Thai ladies who were already there. The GIs told stories about their experiences, which attracted more GIs, which started to draw young women to the village. The formal sex industry grew out of this. My friends are in their late 60s. They went back for some nostalgia, to satisfy a bit of curiosity and probably to finally rid themselves of a demon or two. But I do agree with your general point.

It seems like a never-ending point raised by monger after monger. I think it is undoubtedly true that LOS is changing, but so are we. This makes objective measurement quite difficult really, and it gives newbies the false impression that there is not much to see here.

I entered Walking Street around 10 pm and was amazed at how many tourists there were. I had not yet read this thread. There where busloads of Asian tourists and streetdancing shows in the street. For me this was a surprise since I haven't visited Pattaya for ten years. Fat white men were parading their fat white wives and (!) their fat little kids through walking street. European women in groups of four or five could be seen shaking their heads at the decadence, stealing feigned troubled glances at korean tourists whom they obviously mistook for thai working girls. When a group of japanese youngsters came up to me to have their pictures taken with a "genuine sex tourist" I finally understood that I was part of the tourist attraction and quickly made my way up a quiet alley to catch my breath and a ride to LK Metro.

There are certainly non-sex tourists in all red light districts but I have yet to see one that beats Walking Street 2013 in terms of quantity at such a late hour. LK Metro was IMO much better in terms of clientele. I visited two GoGos along the street, in the first one there was a diabolical lineup with at least four or five real lookers. There were so many girls in there it was hard to choose what to look at. Unfortunately a very drunk and clingy girl landed her ass in my lap as soon as I had sat down and wouldn't let go for the first three drinks I had there, at last I bought her a couple of lady drinks and tried to enjoy the action seeing that I wouldn't be able to barfine any of the girls because of the little lepricon incessantly grabbing my balls. She wasn't ugly at all but definitely not good looking enough to pay GoGo prices for. From here I moved on to Champagne a GoGo which I remember the name of as I had read about it somewhere beforehand. This night there were no knockouts on stage but still pretty good dance shows here as well.

Something that really has improved in comparision to my remembrance of the Pattaya of old is the dancing. I guess that this is an effect of the GoGo-scene now also catering to non-sex tourists? Every GoGo-bar I visited had dedicated dancers and several of them had shows with different gear and bodypaint and being able to behold such splendor for free and drink drinks for half the price of what I would pay back home was simply amazing. Now having been told that it was better after midnight I found myself back at Walking Street. In the second place I visited a girl who looked very young threw herself at me and I had a drink with her and mamasan. Girl didn't speak a word of English and got totally wasted from a couple of drinks. However she was extremely cute and as both she and mamasan were practically begging me to barfine her I asked to see her identification because was really unsure about her age (guess this might have been silly since she works in establishment on Walking Street?). She had indeed just turned 18 so I barfined her and took her back for short time. Very good but sleepy bom bom. I walked her back to the GoGo bar because I actually doubted she would find her way herself.

Finding myself back in the midst of pussy I had little choice but to try to find myself a companion for the way back to my hotel as well. Now I was in for a surprise however. In the two first GoGos I visited I negotiated barfine and price with ladies of my choice only to find the mamasan insisting on me paying the shorttime / longtime-fine directly to her instead of to the girl after proper and finished service. At the first occasion I interpreted this as some friendly scamming on mamasans part and tried to kindly negotiate it but she stood her ground. The third place I went to still had a good looking girl and as chemistry was good I decided to barfine her. She tells me 600 for barfine and 1500 bath for her. Mamasan tells me 1000 barfine.
