Has anyone used the Uber app to get rides in Manila, instead of regular taxis? If so, how was your experience?

I've never had anything like that happen, maybe it was just a few employees getting creative on a slow afternoon. You can't really expect the best of service in a 3rd world bordello.

Like you, I pay as I go. That way I can get up and move about. Sometimes I'm moving away from a persistent, but fugly gal, other times hunting for that diamond in the rough who might be sitting quietly in a corner nursing her SM light.

I rarely sit at the bar. I try to face the door / doors / entrances / restrooms on order to achieve optimum bird watching. Shithole? Can't disagree with that.

Since its decline, the owners have been searching for models to monetize. The 4 times I have been there in the past 3 years I have gone away with a girl once. And that was nothing special compared to the sweet niblets that used to ply their trade.

Anyway, it seems that management tired of girls that just came in to sit and wait aimlessly for customers without purchasing. Same for some of the guys who have been known to come in, scout out a girl, and then leave without buying a drink themselves. Given the current state, I can't blame the management for making an attempt to make some money. What was the price of the drink anyway? P100? P200? Did you let that get between you and the girl? During its heyday girls perched on stools, sometimes with a drink, guys went in there & bought a drink, chatted up providers & went out to their hotels to complete the transaction. It had a reputation that attracted revellers & party'ers. Everybody was happy. Then the raids & closurers. East Asians moved in & drove out average mongers. The place never really recovered. Meanwhile unregulated sex has gone main stream. Stand outside the casino or robinsons, get on dating sites. Low mileage non pro's (& semi pro's) are everywhere these days.

Part of the problem is that the girl joined you to sit at the bar. Taking a seat at the bar, they want to see a drink purchase, more than sitting at a table. As to buying a drink if you leave with a girl, that's easy to evade. Leave separately, and ask the girl for a nearby location to meet. And they want a standard payment of P350 for a "lady's drink".

This is why you see them nursing a bottle of water. It has the LAC / MBC label on it to stop outside bottles coming in. Sure, some will sit there as long as possible without buying one, and on a busy night a waitress has more lucrative customers to attended to. I recall this guy-must-buy requirement was reported in an FR 8 to 12 months ago. I suspect the girl hadn't purchased her own drink yet and so the waitress was coming in for the assist. I didn't say that I invited her to come over. Usually when I go in there, I sit next to a waitress station to preclude some ho from sitting on at least one side of me. What I did say was that she had a bottle of water. Perhaps I wasn't clear in saying she brought it over with her. I don't know where it was purchased from and I don't care because after being treated like that, there are plenty of other alternatives to stop for a beer at when I'm out walking. LAC can kiss my white ass.

I've been to the same places we've all been, La Café, Burgos, Malate, Havana café, etc.

But I did I ever score a model type in MNL? The answer is sadly no.
