I'm in Pattaya now and surprised at how (relatively) quiet it is. Very definitely a buyer's market. There are whole swathes of beer bars with barely a customer in them. I struggle to understand how some of these bars survive. I sat in one bar last night (Host Bar, next to Happy A-GoGo) for an hour with one incredibly sweet girl, beautiful with it, and no other customer came to the bar.
I amused myself watching punters walk happily into Happy A-GoGo, unless of course they were Indian or Arabic, who were shown the sign saying VIP membership required. I don't know how much it was, but clearly too much. Not condoning racism of any kind, but it does intrigue me that Indian guys so often go around in big groups. I guess the management think that if 10 Indian guys go in together, they are not likely to take out 10 girls, but will probably sit chatting together over their beers?

However many bars are not only empty of customers, but of ladies too. Things are changing very rapidly in Pattaya, Thai economy is strong and is not difficult to find jobs. Many older ladies are really up for retirement and sitting there doing nothing will be a good reason for them to take up the "chance". While the young and pretty will easily find a sponsor/BF/husband as always. Bar and go-go owners will have to find another way to make money, quickly.
This is low season and this particular year, the rain seem to be putting a damper on the night life? I've persoanlly living here haven't seen it rain so often this time of the year. I'm no expert and I don't keep track in case someone wants to provide stats but stats don't always give the whole story. The last two years I noticed that right after Songkran usually starting in May first week it cool down and got overcast and started raining but this year it just went on and on the heat well into June. The finally it started to cool, overcast rain here and there it seem every night projection of Thurderstorms and rain 50. The weather is changing so do lots of other things?
Then as people was saying oh low season I wonder the places were packed each night not just Friday and Sat. Then all of a sudden it die down for a few weeks then back up again?
With all the clubs opening particularly on L. K. Metro area, along with more and more tour groups holding flags walking thru W. S. Things change and there are only so many girls that are available plus many being low season take extended leave to go back home?

Anyone who doesn't have their head up their ass knows that these prices are low to attract customers and that the lady is most certainly relying on the tips as her primary income.

Meanwhile $6 is close to nothing in the larger scale of things. As long as the ladies can make a decent living off tips, the base price will remain low.

Noddy you're quite right, I almost invariably still pay 500 baht when I'm in Pattaya (even though I pay 1,000 in Isaan!), but I have to admit Streetwalker7 is also correct - I do usually end up with somewhat older/less beautiful girls. That's OK though as when I visit Pattaya I'm looking for high service levels (typically the Third Way). Youth and beauty can be found upcountry, but really good service almost never. Another way to put this is I wouldn't actually mind paying 1,000, its just that the kind of girls who provide what I'm looking for at Pattaya are not 1,000 baht ladies.

I'm not a two week millionaire coming to spread wealth. And what about the owner? You think he can keep his doors open AND pay bills at his own house by charging $3 / person?
