I'm on a package deal so don't want to pay twice for hotel accomodation otherwise Giotto would be getting my business.
If I go again then I'll just book flights anad accomodation seperate.
Got an upgrade to the holiday Inn from the Majestic Grande. I believe the Majestic is GF so I'm going to cancel the upgrade and stay there.

FYI That "upgrade" is actually a substantial DOWNgrade in every way.
Are you sure that the upgrade is not from the Majestic Suites, rather than the Majestic Grande? Because the Majestic Grande is a legitimate 4* hotel, while the Majestic Suites is a 2* (although, a very good one) and the Holiday Inn is either a legitimate 3* or a crappy 4* depending on what rating system you believe. And the Holiday Inn, as has been mentioned, is not Girl-friendly, while both of the Majestics certainly ARE Girl-friendly.

The room picture looks very nice. Gives the holiday inn as 4* also on sukhumvit road. I'm presuming its the grande not the suites as I want to stay in somewhere reasonably luxurious thats GF. On another note, as a newbie to Thailand will I have any problems getting a girl or 2 to acoompany my wife and I to the hotel? And also she's really up for a couples soapy massage? Any suggestions as to which MP to visit? Tx for all your help.

can confirm Taipan is GF, could have been me, I just change hotels habitually just so girls don't get to comfortable about finding me.
in retrospect, had a bit of a nutcase, called up an past gf upon late arrival one time, guess she sort of 'latched on' to me, stalked me for a bit, had to change sim #.
Has anyone have any info on the new hotel Soi15. (Corner of Suk Soi15, of course). Rates, is it GF, service etc. They advertise a website but I lost it's URL and Google doesn't show it.

If you are talking about the S15 Hotel, then I have not stayed there, but I'm looking at it as an option on my upcoming visit to LOS. There's been good reviews and it's described as a Boutique Hotel. I like the look of it. See the TripAdvisor reviews and read the "Stylish but needs a bit of work" review! I got a chuckle out of that one. It's not too GF, but it leads me to believe it's the GF that you seek (Not a typo .. read the review):

Last couple of times I have arrived at 8am, and on both occasions they found me a room within 20 minutes. Admittedly the last time was tricky as they did not have a non-smoking room available until normal check-in time, so I checked into a smoking room with the intention of switching after 1 day. In the event the room was fine and I couldn't be bothered to switch.
I have always found the management very helpful and polite.
I have just stayed 3 nights in Le Fenix, Soi 11, so here is a quick report:
Hotel: Boutique design, couple-oriented. Didn't eat breakfast. Bar seemed pleasant with high bar stools, but was usually empty when I walked past so never used it. Reception on 2nd floor up wide staircase, with separate lift to rooms. Fitness room (didn't use it but looked OK), with glass-sided Jacuzzi pool (indoor, with no area to sit, but view over street). Free wi-fi on deal I took.
Management: I arrived at 6pm after long taxi ride, and was a bit irritated that room was not available given that I said I would be arriving at 4pm. However didn't take too long to sort out. Management otherwise very helpful and friendly. When I booked in 2 young pretty female receptionists were casting 'interested' glances at one young male guest. I caught their eye and they both laughed!
Room: Small size, but adequate. L-shaped window is not a clever idea. Separate bathroom with walk-in shower but no shower door. Bathroom showing age and could do with vigorous cleaning, but OK. Flat-screen TV (had to be, otherwise you couldn't walk past bed!). Plent of storage space, mini-bar.
Location: Opposite Q Bar, at end of Soi 11, a good 10 minutes walk from Nana BTS. No tuc-tuc service unlike similarly-located hotels elsewhere, but plenty of passing cabs, and a few bikes nearby. Took a cab back on Friday night at 2am and sat in big traffic jam as many taxis were pulling up at Bed Supper Club and Q Bar. Would have been quicker to walk.
GF/Joiner fee: Had acrimonious debate elswhere on this subject sparked by one member who preferred snide remarks to helpful comments. I understand there is a joiner fee policy at this hotel. However the separate lift from the car-park area means that one can easily take a girl up to your room without being noticed. One girl who came to visit did give her ID card to security, and was escorted to my room (I told her with a smile afterwards that she had cost me 500Bht). However there was no joiner fee included on my bill at the end. I suspect the disconnect between security in the car-park and the reception on Level 2 is the reason for that.
Would I return: Hotel nice enough, but the distance to Nana on a hot sticky day is a real issue. Not a particularly interesting stroll although a couple of good bars on the way. So probably not.
Interesting point: I asked for a scrap of paper from security to write down a phone-number and was given a sheet with the list of current residents on the other side. Was intrigued by the number of rooms with two male guests (more than mixed sex). No problem with that, and my friend told me that Bed Supper Club is a major gay hang-out, so I wondered if the two were connected. Or is it just guys saving money by sharing?
Anyone with experience from Sofitel Residence Asoke? Guestfriendly? Got a really good deal from my Travel Agent. Thanx.

Well then I certainly would NOT "upgrade" from the Majestic Grande to the Holiday Inn - The Majestic Grande is certainly a better choice all around - I guess that this shows the power of brand names that Westerners are familiar with as far as booking companies are concerned. Sorry I can't offer any experience about booking companionship for you and your wife together - as I do my traveling alone - but clearly, it depends upon the lady you approach as to whether she is up for a 3-some.
Keep in mind that in most of the world (including Thailand) there are no real "star" standards. Europe is really the exception, and in Europe the stars are assigned more on the availability of specific services and amenities than on subjective things like charm and style. A place like the Majestic "Suites" with small rooms and minimal services might be a two-star in many countries and yet be very "nice." And I have stayed in four-star hotels that were highly unsatisfactory.

They keep offering comping but we are having one problem after another. The second day our front door of the apartment broke totally in the open position and the track jammed up so U could not close it or open it, just sitting there in the open position. Of course was heading out to an appointment and was really happy leaving the room wide open.
The shower handle keeps falling off after they "fixed" it a few times. The LAN line does not work and after repeatedly telling them that it is not a problem with either of my three computers... they called in the outside company and low and behold they need to rip out my ceiling today to try to fix the problem.
The management company is taking no responsibility but atleast the manager is showing daily concern and trying to minimize the damage.

In Europe, they have an Official Stars System given by the government and very tightly controlled by a very thick book of Regulations. For example, a 5 star hotel must have 1 guest elevator per every 75 rooms, also have 1. 5 metre wide Hallways, 1x Ice machine per floor, etc.
Now one thing to keep in mind also is that in the very near future, 5 star hotels will disappear. Why? Well it already started in France, the 4 seasons there is a 4 star hotel, the Crillon is a 4 star hotel, why is that? : Taxes.
4 star hotels are taxed 6 TO 7% more than while 5 star hotels.
The Real Star rating is just a "Plaque" that hangs in front of the Main Door (that no one notices), however Today most Websites are accepting hotels that are "Self Rated" so anyone could be a "Boutique" or 5 star.
Thanks for all the info in this forum. I'll be in BKK in a few weeks and am still mulling over my hotel choices. I've got tentative reservations at Adelphi, Citadines and Citichic. They all seem to fit the bill in one way or another. Like the fact that Adelphi is more convenient than the other two to the MRT. Have not stayed at any of them but am starting to wonder if Adelphi is not the right choice anymore. It had been my first choice.
Any additional recent input from ISGers would be great. I prefer somewhere comfortable so I can at least relax in my own room a bit and enjoy it. Also like the idea of being walking distance to the MRT (I know that varies between people but 10 minutes or so walk still works for me).
Need to make my decision over the next couple of days. Thanks for any extra info and/or opinions.
Will definitely be adding some FRs from my trip and will put some info on the hotel I choose in here.

well, AF, read a few posts below from my friend Tansak KTV. He is at Adelphi now, and things are not working out too well for him. That particular hotel would not be on my list right now. I have looked inside Citychic, very nice, and new. a bit of a walk to Suk, and very small pool. 2300 if you book online. Lots of Asian girls on holiday stay there
