My experience in Porto Allegre. June 2011
Hi,
This is my first time posting on this website.
I just returned from a three week adventure in Brazil. I visited several cities and I am going to post my experiences in each city separately. This post will be devoted to Porto Allegre.
I stayed at the Quality Hotel in the Moinhos de Vento section of the city.

The first thing I noticed was the prevalence of European looking girls walking in the streets; there were many blondes. A couple of the girls at the front desk of my hotel were beautiful, but not very friendly. They only spoke a little English. I speak some Spanish, so I thought that Spanish would get me by but this was not to be the case.
For those who are unaware, Porto Allegre does not have a beach. The city is on kind of a deep water estuary.
The first night I tried La Barca:

The girls looked Italian. The place was clean and upscale, but the prices were very high. Some girls were quoting me as high as 400 Rs I think I was a victim of gringo price discrimination. Then I made an offer to a shy looking girl of 250 Rs and she accepted. My terms were for sex for an hour and BBBJ. She refused and so I walked. The loss was my time and the 40R entrance fee. I must emphasize that all negotiations were a struggle. No girl spoke very much English and I was using Spanish. To my surprise, the Spanish wasn't working much better.
The second night I tried Gruta Azul:

The entrance was 60 Rs. The selection was good but once again I was being overcharged. Quite frankly, the girls were not friendly. One girl reduced her price to 200 Rs, but then I found out that room rental was another 40 Rs and the time was only one hour upstairs. Tired of price haggling, language struggles, and apprehensive that I was going to get another bad surprise, I called it a night. The cost in time, effort, and money was way too high.
After two nights in the clubs and two failures I abandoned the idea of paid sex.
I did manage to talk up a girl in Parque Farroupilha who spoke a little English and Spanish. We had a lunch date but that was it. I would imagine if you spoke Portuguese, you could have more fun in Porto Allegre; possibly with non-paid sex. The girls are beautiful, but I think they are more conservative.
Disappointed, I cut the trip short and headed to Florianopolis.
I'm in Porto Alegre now. Advice needed.
Hey. I'm now in POA and looking for good quality blondes for a fair price. I keep reading Gruta Azul is the best place but also that the cost is 300 plus reais. Any advice or contacts?
Will write report after.
Daytime action in POA. Benjamin Constant update
Just finishing a very pleasant week in POA, a big thank you to previous posters on this thread for your info.
Nice tip to go to rua Benjamin Constant, numbers 1363 and 829 for daytime action. I had a very good experience.
First, #1363 Benjamin Constant.
Mel at the reception said they are open from 10-7 Mon-Fri. 10-5 on Saturday. The price seems to be higher than previous posters indicated: 90 for 1/2 hour. 140 for 1 hour. On Saturday the "promotion" rate is 80 for 1/2 hour. 120 for 1 hour.
Its not the cheapest rooms in Brazil but its very clean and decorated quite stylishly / comfortably. The only weird (and unhygienic) thing is instead of a sheet, they put a disposable "cloth" guaze over the white leather bed (which quickly slips away). Otherwise the room is very clean and comfortable. In-room shower included.
If you are concerned about safety, the area is Sao Geraldo, about 5 minutes taxi from posh Moinhos area. Felt (lower) middle class and 100% safe area to me, by day (but so is much of central POA, by day).
I went twice. 2pm (5 girls) and 3:30pm (6 girls). I'd rate the girls 6-7's but then I guess I'm quite picky. What made it worthwhile is that the girls and staff were so relaxed and friendly: smiles, chats, no rush. I like darker-skinned girls so I went both times with Andrea, who was a little chubby, but cute, lovely natural breasts, aparently 20yo and a student. The first time she was very GFE. Kisses, no condom BJ, lovely sex, she went over time and cuddly / no rush afterwards. The second time she complained I only booked 1/2 hour and seemed less "into it', but it was still great for me. The other girls are mostly blond / fair hair and mix of bigger girls (not fat) and a spinner.
Benjamin Constant #829. I went once at 3pm, weekday. Slightly shabbier than 1363 but quite OK. Prices 80/120 for half / full hour. I saw 6 girls, again 6-7's, a few with braces. I felt the girls were a similar quality to 1363, but the older decor of 829 makes them seem slightly less stylish IMO. I passed, but would go back to check out the one morena and the one very black girl. The others again had fair hair, no stunners of like you'll see in Gruta Azul or apparently the other show clubs.
Gruta Azul. I went on a very warm Monday night around 11pm. Prices seem to have gone up significantly (or did I get overcharged? Though I speak OK portuguese) Entry: 110 reais, includes 5 longneck beers or 2 whiskies or equivalent in drinks. Room upstairs: opening quote 80 reais, not sure if negotiable. Girls: didn't ask prices, but it was a man's paradise there (probably 60+ girls on the floor to the 40 or so male punters. A quiet night?) Like previous posters said, if you like European looking beauties, classy decor, its a fun night out (preferably with friends, I'd think). Other pro's: girls don't approach your table and beg drinks unless you call them. Very civilized! Cons IMO: house music (not Brasilian) , dark (hard to see faces) , lots of chunky-thighed bodies, lots of attitude (but some pouting dancers turn very chatty and smiley with the Brazilian guys around me who called them. And no black girls, so I wasn't interested. Lots of blonds, though.
Sauna Kana the'Ache (Kanadache) Closed on Monday night. However nothing lost, its just a 3-4 blocks walk to either Benjamin Constant or Gruta Azul (dodgy at night, though you will walk down main road Av. Farrapos to Gruta Azul, which has a few SWs for your entertainment)
Non-pro:
Winter must be tough here for tourists. Although it's nearly summer now, and there are great bars in Cidade Baixa and rua Padre Chagas in Moinhos, and people seem friendly, I found it hard to meet girls, because locals generally go out and sit in groups (like much of Brazil). These are white girls, with jobs and a social network and from a relatively conservative part of Brazil. You'd need to be "connected" and introduced IMO. I heard for 20-somethings "Opinao" (huge club in Cidade Baixa) is good option and girls are friendly. I also heard there are more friendly bar options. Ex. In Zona Sul, Ipanema etc. (samba, forro, more racially mixed apparently). However there's an active and friendly Couchsurfing network here which is good if you're in 20's or 30's (or young looking 40's). Weekly meetings on Thursday nights with 60-100 people.
An incredible find in Porto Alegre like Pascha in Cologne but unknown too tourists
Avenida Farrapos about a km from the Central Market in Porto Alegre is where all the street pros are, plus bars where you pay about 100 Brazilian reais. The street pros charge from 20. 80 depending on their age and mood, plus you will pay about 30 reals for one hour for hotel room which are all around that area.
Avenida Farrapos is a sleazy area, which I quite like. I don't like the discos and bars where they girls dress up and rip the tourists off.
So to avoid all the usual tourist theatre and overpriced nonsense, I found a place off Avenida Farrapos. It's a building with no name and believe it or not there are 40 or so brothels inside. Each floor has approx 4. 5 flats. Inside the flats, is a bar like a tmosphere with drinks and girls. The girls charge 25-30 reals, INCLUDING THE ROOM, for about 20 minutes. Each of these flats has from 2-5 girls. There are 10 floors in this building.
So a minimum of ineffect 40 type brothels in one building. It opens at 9 am in morning and closes at 10 pm. So late night you will have to go to one of the street discos and get ripped of by paying 100 brs or more.
So, back to this building. There is no name to identify it as vast collection of brothels. It looks like a standard block of flats. So here is the address, hope any who visit enjoy it.
The building is on Rua de Conceicao,
Which is of Avenida Farrapos (about a km from central Market)
It is opposite a bus terminal area and next to a bar.
The building number is 389 and the name of the building is Dr Jose Flores Soares. It is not easy to spot, so I took a photo of the name and number. It is an incredible find, in terms of price and choice. It really is a place probably for poor locals to go to. They probably get no gringos as customers.
