I stayed a week each at the Apoview Hotel and the Marco Polo this past Trip. I got better service and treatment at the Apoview Hotel. After that fucking Park Lane hotel in Cebu City, arriving at the Apoview that afternoon was a "breath of fresh air". It was 100% better. And a much nicer Hotel. While the Park lane has shitty room service at outrageous prices (who would pay these prices; higher than the Marco Polo in HK that I stay in and a truly magnificent hotel) , the Apoview Hotel has great room service. A magnificent Beef Tendeerloin Steak dnnner with vegatables, fries and baked potatoes for P560. And a good 1/2 lb. Serving! Rose and I had this almost nightly as she did not get back from work until 10PM.

At the Apoview I was immediately greeted by Staff as I exited my taxi. Bags were removed within mnutes and all wished me a Happy Birthday. In My room, waiting for me, was a great bottle of French Red and a beautiful cake, plus line table cloth, candles and fine silverware and crystal wine glasses! Again, magnificent. After the three days in Park lane it was going from a 1 to a 9 in value, service and all around atmosphere. Felt like I was really welcome.

I swithced to the Marco Polo solely for the experience and my teenage daughter arrived and she loves this Hotel. It is wonderful but now it is under a new GM who I have never met. It is different and service is deteriorating. Staff is still very friendly and boys grabbed my bags and welcomed me immediately as I arrived. Many on staff my arrival day were new, which I found strange for a 5 Star Hotel. But in the next few days I met many Staff whom I knew. Again it was a far cry from the fucking Park Lane in Cebu City. Like going from a 1 to a 9 again.

Sone differences at the MP are that room service is now inadequate and your choices are extremely limited, unlike a year ago. Also no Beef Tenderloin offered and the hamburger was the most overpriced ($ 13. 25) I ever had. Also mediocre. The swimming pool is still magnificent and the cafe and bar there are both nice with great service. The Hotel is still on my Definitely Stay List. I paid $ 82 / nt here on Agoda; $8 / nt more than what that shithole, Park lane charged me. Fucking robbery for a real crummy, third rate hotel!

I will go more into Hotels in Davao City. I have stayed at a dozen different hotels here. I can recommend three: Apoview Hotel, Marco Polo Hotel and Red Knight Garden Hotel. I would never stay again at any of the others where I previously stayed in the past and I suggest you avoid them also. RKG is very reasonable. Book it at least a month in advance and stay at least two weeks. You should get a nice rate. Remember, Sir Brad (shit I need to do an update on the "Davao Weirdos GE and I met")? He stayed here for six months once and GE got him a rate of P467 / nt. Again it was an efficiency room but near the pool and restaurant and I stayed in it for one night with Rose (GE waited untel after I left to tell me we were in Brad's room).

I had a good time for that night, just as good as the prior night when we stayed in a 2 bedroom apt. Fucked Rose magnificently that night and the following morning. Wonder is Sir Brad ever fucked a woman half as HOT as Rose there? Wonder if he fucked any women there?

Need to mention some of the many oddballs that have visited or live in Davao City. Quite a few actually. Fat Larry is the first as I ran into him at Henny's just a couple weeks ago while we were in there celebrating Rose's birthday (my Son, Conor; 's mother). GoodEnough and his woman were with us to celebrate. The cray part is I had just inquired into the whereabouts of Fat larry. GE replied, he is not out at all and I have seen and heard nothing of him in months. I then said, :good, if he shows up now, I am out of here".

I barely got these words out when in walked Cro Magnon Larry. This guy could get a part in a Hollywood Horror flick any day. He would need no makeup. Could scare wolfman. He is about 5"10 and 350lbs. Has a strnage head on an even stranger body. Looks like a ghoul that was robbing grtaves or, perhpas, crawled out of a grave as it was being robbed. He was dressed in equally scary attire I cannot describe as I was looking away and uttering prayers softly, to myself, that he would avoid us.

My prayers were in vain and he walked over and said Hello, to GE and his wife and offered his hand to me. I shook it while not looking up at him as I was hoping to discourage any thinking on his part that he could join us. Fortuately, he moved to the bar at the other end of the Restaurant. He had some girl with him and another man. I only lookewd at GE who was in the middle of some Buddhist mantra to ward off evil spirits.

When I originally met Fat Larry I had heard his reputation as someone to avoid. He was at Henny's and I was there with a girl I was fucking at the time on a more or less regular basis. In two hours talking to him there with my lady friend he went from talking with me to advising me to giving me orders like I was his fucking servant. He is definitely is an asocial personality. No idea how to be nice to people. He is the self proclaimed Food Critic of Davao. When he took it upon himself to view Farfalla's Restuarant it was a Sunday morning when she opened to serve breakfast.

He so terrified the beautiful. 26 y/o Celina (owner of Farfalla's and Executive Chef) that she called and got both her boyfriend and her father, Claude,( owner ofClaude's Cafe de Ville) out of bed at 09:00AM and down there to protect her from this ranting, threatening ghoul. He was saying he would "take over her kitchen now and revamp it. SHow her how to cook". Like the graduate of a Paris Culinary Institute needs this ghoul's advice. He needs to get into making Horror Flicks for teens to watch on Friday nights.

This is the Topic now on the Manila Board. Back three years ago I was seeing May here in Davao City, student at Ateneo University (across from Marco Polo Hotel). I invited her to come join me at the Eagles Head inside Marco Polo. Asks if she can bring a couple friends and I say ok. She arrives at 8PM with four of her fellow Ateneo students. We order some appetizers in the Eagles Nest and I get a call from GoodEnough, inviting me to his place for drinks. I ask is I can bring five students with me and he says okay.

I had a bottle of Champagne at his house and he gets it ready. I arrive with these five (5) snotty co-eds and GE pours the bubbly and gets out some snacks. We eat and I snuggle up with may on his couch. This one 18 why / o in the group complains that she IS HUNGRY and she was told she would be fed. I do not want to ruin things as I like this May so I get a taxi and we depart GE's place at 10:30PM. The girls in one taxi and May with me in a second. They have no clue where to dine late at night in Davao City as most places close at 10PM, especially on Sunday. But Dragon Slayer once lived here with GE and was a rowdy, childless drunk / mongorer / barroom brawler back then. I knew where to dine at 03:00AM nightly. No problem.

So we head to the corner of J Camus & Illustre Sts, home of the once infamous "Ground Zero". The girls and I embark into one of the many Filipino barbecue places here. These remain open nightly until 01:00AM to 05:00AM depending on which place. The girls all order Filipino food and I have a beer. I leave tired as they continue to chomp away and chat in vasayan, ignoring my existence on this planet. I pay the bill, all of 500 pesos and leave. Never a thankyou from the little witches but who cares.

It was cheap but it was also the last time I ever permitted a girl to bring friends along like this.

I really DO need to cover dining out in Davao City. This is something that gets brought up quite often. So here goes:

First, if you are a Filipino or Chinese DO try Ah Fats. It is located at the back of Victoria Plaza Mall (you go down the street along side the Mall to the back where there is a row of restaurants that run perpindicular to the Street you are on. Ah Fat is to the far left. My daughter and her mother dined here, I imagine on the recommendation of the Marco Polo Hotel (hotel recommends this place often). I did not go out as I was in pain and this was two day prior to my surgery.

They came back very satisfied with this Restaurant. They both love good Chinese and, of course, good Filipino food. It is not elegant but nice and it is a must try for Chinese and Filipinos reading this and visiting Davao City.

Second Restaurant, keeping in the exact same area is Farfalla's. Features Continental Cuisine in a nice setting. Small but elegant is how to describe this Restaurant. Has the most beautiful Executive Chef in Davao City in its Owner / Chef Celine. She was educated at a French Cluinary Institute in Paris, France. Fluent in English, French and Vasayan. Great foor is served here at moderate prices. The only drawback is the wine list is very pricey. Too expensive for what is being served here.

Third is the new Chinese Restaurant inside the Marco Polo Hotel. Located on the third floor this is Elegant, Good and Worth Dining at. Prices are on the moderately high side but food is good and atmosphere is nice. Chinese from Hong Kong will especially enjoy this.

Thank you.[/QUOTE]I would agree DS on your observation on GE but I am always trying to push is boundaries with cuisine much to no avail LOL He seems completely lost on English cuisine such as bangers and mash, toad in the hole (it a dish but not of the female variety) , spotted dick and custard (again this is food) , fish / chips and mushy peas LOL.

I like my reds and champagne but in small quantities as you know, plus a good steak, a succulent rack of lamb, mussels, glorious seafood etc. But I do hanker for good old fashioned cuisine.

I am the ever optimist but I fear my general happy persuasive nature will not work on GE. He and I agree on many issues but this is not one.

I do think a restaurant guide . In one FR. Would be a good idea. There are some nice places in the city.

Thankyou. I like the UK and the people and I always enjoy visiting. Not crazy about the food but I do enjoy a Shepperd's Pie. Love the pubs except for the smoking. The UK needs to go the way of the Western USA and eliminate smoking in ALL PUBLIC PLACES. People will be healthier and non smokers will start to go out more frequently.

On the Topic of fine dining I am considering starting a New Board entitlted: "Dining Out in the Philippines". It will cover anything from Elegant Restaurants, casual places and critiques of Hotel Room Service. The "Father's Day" board here got me a lot of compliments from guys. It was NOT started by me, however. My youngest Son, Conor, was standing next to me. I was doing my annual father's Day Post (first was in original Davao Board June 2004). He was banging on the keys as I told him that in about 17 years he would most likely be posting.

He could not wait that long and he hit the key for starting a new Board, hence when I went looking for my Post to review, I discovered a new Board entitled "Father's Day" and therein was my post.

In any event, I am seriously considering this new Board as so many guys that read my Forum enjoy a good dinner out and are constantly seeking new places to dine. So let me know what you think.

Now to more on Davao City Restaurants:

Plaza Bistro: located on the fourth floor of the Marco Polo, this Restaurant is Magnificent! I love it and enjoy the ambiance, romantic setting and the view through the glass to the swimming pool at night. Food here is not cheap but you get a fine meal in a romantic setting. Go for the Set Dinner which is five (5) courses and you get to choose from a group of entrees. This was around P875 per person last time I had it. You come here and you take your time dining and enjoy the moment. No one rushes you out of here.

My only complaint concerning this Restaurant is the wine list. Very limited and way overpriced. Brnng your own wine and pay the P750 corkage fee. You will save money and be drinking far better wine (assuming you are a wine connoisseur).

Entree: located on the first floor of the Apoview Hotel past the lobby on the left side. I really enjoy this Restaurant. Gets an A for value and also for ambiance. Very elegant with white linen table cloths and candles in the evening. Booths where you can snuggle with your Lady. Has a beautiful view of the oriental gardens while dining.

You can choose the buffet or from the menu. On the menu the Beef tenderrloin for P560 is Excellent and a large portion! Again this is a place to dine and take your time. The buffet runs from very good to average at night, depending on what is served. The desserts are excellent and you could fill up solely on these. Serrvice here is also as good as in the Plaza Bistro Restaurant, meaning Excellent.

One item to note that the Wine List at Entree is small but nice and the best value of any Restaurant in Davao City, with the exception of Swiss Deli. And far superior to Swiss Deli on atmosphere, ambiance, food quality and serrvice.

At Entree you can get a nice bottle of French, Italian, Australian or Chilean Red for from P780 to P1200. Most are in the P900 range. Great price!

On a very Serious Note I want to issue a brief comment on the horrible tragedy that took place in Japan early this morning West Coast US Time. I was asleeiip, awoke and decided to call the Mother of my eldest daughter on the Island of Leyte where I have my beachfront home. She informed me of the Tragedy and that the waves then hitting the shoreline of Leyte werre only a few feet high.

There is nothing that I can say here to compensatee for this Disaster in Japan. Only I am so sorry for what has happened there and I DO hope that Japan will recover quickly. A Fine nation of Good People!

The Sting of the Black Scorpion:

She is young and she was worried to death about not gettinhg this work. She is also a single mother.

So she was texting GE every thirty minutes or so until he went "Ape Shit" on her. Like King Kong in the movie he was ready to deastate her "village" (barangay?). Told her to come and get the money but to stay out of his life FOREVER! Wow! And this from the same very good friend of mine who only recently asked me to have kindness and patience towards Jellyfish and Fat Larry. INCREDIBLE!

Now there is no way on this fucking planet I will EVER show any kindness or anything to Jellyfish (goes by the name Cooler Brew on the ISG Fourm; never, ever posts so he only lurks to fuck guys over). He fucked me over horribly with my Jen, former girlfriend whom I met for the first time in Davao City back in early September 2004. Guy ever tried to "explain" why he did this to me. Fucking creep, COOLER BREW (time to bring this Loser out of the closet) , did not like that I had more than one, nice, sweet, regular woman that I was seeing and fucking.
