Hey guys,
I am looking at coming to Pattaya in a couple of weeks, I trying to get a handle on how much everything is going to cost. How do Bar fines work and what should I expect to pay. The prices there seem to be all over.
Thanks,
Timmy
You're a brave soul, Timmy, to ask a question like that. Many people would suggest that you read some of the forum reports, where much helpful information is given. I'll simply restrict myself to saying that the prices do vary depending on the location and the girl.

Soi six 700 baht?
Last time I was in Pattaya in March, I stopped by Soi Six one evening as the sun was going down. I walked the SIX three times until I found a cute little girl I thought I might want to shag. Actually I spotted two cuties. One was from Ruby Bar or Red Point (I forget which) and one was from OBar. I chose Porn from OBar for no particular reason over the other girl. They both seemed nice. Porn smiled and got sexy with me as soon as I walked her way. No, actually she smiled and came to life as soon as I looked her way. Boom! The accommodations upstairs were rustic if you know what I mean, but that is part of the charm of doing it on the SIX. All in all I had a very good time. ST: 300bt for room + 700bt for girl + 200bt tip + ? For drinks. Here is a picture of the lovely and charming Porn. She is a nice girl. I wouldn't mind repeating with her. Of course you can find better looking girls in Walking Street Go Go's, but that is not the point, is it?
I went to Soi Six several times in the past months. Almost all girls quoted 1000 + 300. Okay, I prefer very cute girls and I didn't haggle. Nevertheless it astonishes me a little bit that you used to pay only 700. Did you haggle?
there are no longer any benches for them to sit on.
Have not been in a year. So now the benches are gone. Another notch in the slow change from Pattaya party on earth to Little Moscow family fun center.

Soi Six and then Baccara
I went to Soi Six several times in the past months. Almost all girls quoted 1000 + 300. Okay, I prefer very cute girls and I didn't haggle. Nevertheless it astonishes me a little bit that you used to pay only 700. Did you haggle?
Hi Pimpa, no I don't haggle or negotiate. I do my market research before I travel so I am aware of prevailing rates in various venues. When I see a girl I am attracted to; I smile, I flirt with her, and if she is responsive to my overtures, I buy her a drink. If she seems like a nice girl, I will ask her how much. If she quotes me the market rate or near the market rate; it is on. If she quotes me too much I make a joke about it and give her an exaggerated frown. That is all I will do. I continue sipping my drink and some more polite banter. If the girl negotiates herself down in price; it's on. If she says nothing more on the subject by the time I finish my drink, I get up and politely say, 'I'll see you later' and I am off to the next bar and the next girl. Leaving the bar empty handed does not happen very often to me. I think that is because my vibe is friendly, relaxed, and I don't care if I get laid right now or not because I got laid 3 times yesterday, 3 times the day before yesterday, and 3 times the day before that.
Now to the case at point: to the best of my recollection, Porn asked 700bt plus 300bt for the room. I think I would have remembered it if she had asked more. I am 90% sure of this. Now this was in early March. 2013 and even at this early date, board members were reporting that some girls on the 6 were trying to get 1000bt, but most were still happy with the 700bt going rate. The pertinent question is what is the going rate now and what will it be in March 2014 when I return? I don't know. Maybe you are right and the rate most girls are now asking is 1000bt. I think more forum members need to come forth with their experiences for us to know for sure.
In any case, when I return to Pattaya and Soi Six, I will know better about prevailing market rates. If I run into Porn and she recognizes me, I won't even ask what her rate is. It will be a happy moment. I will ask her how she is doing. I'll buy her a drink, and probably take her back to my hotel for a longer more relaxed session of reunion sex. Thai working girls like reunion sex with friendly returning customers. This has happened to me many times in Thailand. I love it too. On the other hand, if I do not spot Porn or she does not recognize me, it's no big deal. I will slowly cruise the Soi up and down until I find another cutie or two. By the way, I only prefer cute, friendly girls at the minimum and beautiful friendly model quality girls at the max. I never take a plain girl or someone I am not attracted too. Well almost never, HA. I think Porn was one of the two cutest girls on the Soi at the time I met her. There might have been a couple of more attractive girls upstairs with customers. You never know. At the time, I was looking for a little cutie just like Porn and I am glad I found her. She was perfect.
Later I walked down Beach Road to Walking Street checking out the FL's and everything else. I had something to eat at one of the portable food carts on Soi 15 and then I wandered into Baccara. I saw nobody that interested me on the 1st floor, but on the 2nd floor I ran into a little spinner named Ning, #337. I was not very horny, but Ning won me over with her sweet 'bad' girl personality. When she started pole dancing, she suddenly ripped off her top and slid down the pole to the 1st floor. I immediately jumped up and started clapping. I remember shouting, 'now that's what a call a show! ' purposely quoting George Clooney in 'From Dusk Till Dawn'. I don't know if any of the other customers (mostly Asians) got it or not. I don't care. After her act, Ning came back to me and I told her she was my Baccara superstar. A few tequila shots later, we left for my hotel room. I liked Ning so much, I barfined her the next night as well. ST 2000bt + 300bt tip + 600bt barfine (I think) + drinks (? can't remember/don't care?).
Just another night in Pattaya. No big deal.

' Most if not all (20+ over the last 12 months) say yes. If the girl insists on 1000 baht I just say 'Thanks', and move on. I only once paid 1000 baht, for my very last shag last trip because I decided I wanted the girl, and couldn't be bothered to find another in the hour before my taxi arrived.
Similarly I always pay 1500 baht for o/n, from 10pm to 10am. Only one girl has complained, and wanted 2000 baht.

And I only ever go with a girl who shows interest in me, which rules out a good few who seem bored or are chatting to their friends or are eating or are on the phone. Unfortunately the most enthusiastic are not always the most attractive, but that still leaves a substantial number of attractive girls looking to earn their money.

This means that you should pay 700 (1500 for LT) baht for the girl + 300 baht for the room + bar fine + tip (optional). You don't mention the bar fine. Does it mean that for those girls the price for a girl includes the bar fine? Or you are referring to freelancers?
Maybe you are right and the rate most girls are now asking is 1000bt. I think more forum members need to come forth with their experiences for us to know for sure.
The standard rate on Soi 6 is now transitioning from 700 to 1000 (room rate holding steady at B300). What this means is that most of the more popular girls have been getting B1000 for a year or two now, while the less in-demand ones are still happy to get B700. The rest are somewhere in between, but increasingly want B1000. It's just ordinary inflation, and it exactly mirrors the way the basic rate went from 500 to 700 some years ago.
Like you I don't negotiate, not for prices or time or services. In fact I don't even bring up the subject, and if the girl starts trying to, I lose interest pretty quickly. I just take them and then pay what I think the service was worth. Once in a long while one will seem a little dissatisfied, in which case I ask her how much more she wants. I remember the first time this happened on Soi 6, when a girl wanted 1000 instead of 700, a couple years ago. I like to think I can tell when they honestly feel they're being underpaid, and in this case there was no doubt. She was a hottie and that was what she was getting. So I paid up, no problem. These days I give 1000 as a matter of course, unless it was disappointing (or phenomenal).
I'm always amused how guys can deal with inflation in most things, but get all offended when they encounter it in commercial sex. Given that the typical kap khaao meal has gone from B20 to B40 over the past couple years, the price rises on Soi 6 if anything are still on the low side.

Its just too bad that most of disposable incomes (in Canada at least) have not kept up with the inflation.

In March the rate was hovering at around 2900bt per $100. A couple of times all I got was slightly below 2875bt for $100. Since March, surprise, surprise, the dollar has rallied. Today it is at 3168bt per $100. That is a 13% gain! That should help ease the pain from the increased local inflation. In fact if you are holding US Dollars, Thailand is cheaper today than it was in March. Now maybe this is not much to cheer about, I remember back in 2004, when $100 was worth over 4200bt. And even though it would be real nice to see that exchange rate again in the foreseeable future, Thailand would still be more expensive today than it was in 2004.

The smart guys thought the baht was artificially high went it was around 28-29 to the US dollar. They think right now. 32. 2 to 32. 4 is about right. The sudden swing was a reaction to capital leaving Thailand and emerging markets in general. This was precipitated by the rising rates on US Treasuries and anticipation of the ending of QE. Some smart guys think it is possible all of this is a precursor to another Asian crisis. If they're right you could see 42 again. While I follow their reasoning, I wouldn't bet on it.

Currency Speculation

I for one, when I am changing my few hundred dollars at a time bluntly find an exchange booth and worry not about the $5 I might gain or lose walking the streets to find a better rate. For the price of a beer it just ain't worth the hassle.

At the average March. 2013 rate of 29bt per dollar you will have 58, 000bt to spend at your discretion. At around today's rate of 32bt per dollar you will have 64, 000bt or 6, 000bt more discretionary spending power at your disposal. That differential is worth a couple of sessions with the lady of your choice at the very least, so the fx is pretty important. That was my point.
I am not suggesting that anyone start trading Baht on the forward currency market. I am suggesting that the inflationary cost of pussy in Dollar or EU terms is significantly explained by the foreign exchange rate and the value of our currency is dependent on the fiscal and monetary policies of our respective governments and central banks. And those bastards have not been doing a very good job over the past 10 years to say the least. That is the main reason that pussy has been getting more and more expensive for us westerners everywhere in Asia. We need to elect smarter leaders with better ideas and for fuck sake stop printing money! It only leads to inflation. The last 5 years should have proven that.
