I spent an extended period in Jakarta (previously only short trips) and these are my thoughts. 7-10 years ago in Bangkok was probably my favorite period so that's my point of reference and always will be.

I averaged $94 per day for spending excluding accommodation, averaged just under one session per day. I look for good value, I'll average maybe 10-12 beers per night (maybe 6 of those beers are at cheap establishments early in the evening, my best night was 18 beers), eat local food or fast food (restaurants are awkward waiting for food while solo). I know enough Indonesian to handle a situation where no-one speaks English. I eat well and stay in shape when not on the road.

In terms of value, Indonesia is as good as it gets in Asia. A venue like Classic is safe, if you're there at 9 pm you have a great selection of nice looking women, there are no real scams, prices are great value, rooms are always spotless.

And really, all those venues whether Travel, Kota Indah, New Medika, it's all straightforward. They don't scam you (apart from the girls with shots but you just have to say no and then refuse to pay if they continue). The beer is reasonably priced, you can find cute girls and the prices are as cheap as you'll get in Asia. If it's your first time in Jakarta, it has novelty value compared to Thailand or the Philippines.

But it does get old quickly. It's like the Indonesians take the challenge out of mongering.

The venues are repetitive. The music generally sucks, it's extremely loud (if the music was good it wouldn't be a problem). The cigarette smoke really sucks after a while.

With all the venues being self-contained and taxi rides apart you don't get that buzz you get drinking in Bangkok, Manila, Pattaya, Angeles, Phnom Penh where you bounce from one bar to another all night long.

Blok M really isn't worth visiting. It's Mybar and Dee's Place. Nothing else. If you just came from Thailand or the Philippines you would wonder what the fuss is.

I thought CJs was a total tourist trap.

In terms of value, for $94 per day you can't beat Jakarta (I can't see prices remaining low I was staggered by how many tourists I saw this time compared to previous visits).

The girls are cute, they perform well enough, the prices are good value, but I end up longing for the energy of Bangkok or fun of Angeles City.

I did try Tinder and was shocked by the response. I didn't pursue anything. The first girl accused me of being someone else, then the next one seemed to not like the idea of a few drinks at beer garden. Preferred 'wine and vodka'. No thanks. Just didn't have the time to sift through them, but I think online would be a great way to go. Especially if you set your sights slightly lower than the hottest girls on there.

Again though, you're not in Bangkok you're in Jakarta. I suppose mongering is just one aspect of a mongering trip for me.

I'll return to Jakarta, but not for an extended trip. Even though I'm sure Jakarta improves once you have a network of girls or friends.

Do you value your time more than your money or vice-versa, do you just want mediocre sex with a young girl for an hour in a room in a brothel or do you want GFE and hours of fun hanging out before having better sex in your own room? Those girls at CJs and BATS are experts at making you believe they are your girlfriend for the night (as you mentioned).

I would not call CJs or BATS simply a "tourist trap" because many guys who live in Jakarta go there. Maybe a better description would be "westerner trap and tourist trap" LOL. You will find more western guys who live in Jakarta going to places like CJs and BATS than you will find in the brothels. Any nice 5 star location in Jakarta costs a lot to visit regardless of whether they have girls there or not.

I personally prefer CJs and BATS by far over a place like Hotel Classic or any other brothel in town. I like a nice place that has good music (and I find live bands fun). The drinks are absurdly priced, but I like the environment. I have to admit that I have met a couple of girls over 30 who were unbelievable stunners and I went for it, but normally I will go home alone rather than take a girl over 30 years old. There are some extreme hotties who are young who venture into CJs and BATS (usually never more than around 5 per night, so you do have to move quickly when you see a young hotty in order to get one). On occasion you can get lucky and find a girl who is very high quality and she just hasn't found a sponsor yet or is in between sponsors.

If you are looking for a girl to take to Bali, there are many good candidates in those places. Some of them have become good friends of mine over the years who I will actually meet for a coffee and just talk about life at times.

I think the better service in bed and overall fun experience with the girl justifies the higher price of the girls at CJs and BATS. I give those girls between 1 and 1.5 million. But if you just want cheap sex with a young attractive girl and don't care as much about quality of service or human interaction, then CJs and BATS are not the places to go. The girls in the brothels are younger without any doubt and they are far cheaper. Basically, every one of my Indonesian friends only cares about the price and the girl being young with white skin, they don't care anything about hanging out with the girl. So of course they prefer the brothels. And my western friends in town are the exact opposite. Personally, I find the brothels to be boring and very rarely even consider them, but I did used to like them years ago when I first arrived in town and was like a kid in a candy shop.

As far as Angeles City having hot women, that's an interesting comment. Maybe I went at the wrong time, but my experience in AC was a disaster. I only visited AC once for one week back in the mid 2000's, but I was not impressed in the least. I think AC has far worse looking women compared to Jakarta or Bangkok. I rarely saw any girl over a 6 in any of those bars in AC. The best looking girl I saw in AC was a waitress at a steak restaurant there. I will say that the girls in AC are fun, but it seemed to me like they needed to be playful to make up for their lack of good looks. I believe the ugliest girl I have ever taken home from BATS or CJs was better looking than the best girl I was with that week in AC. I have a friend who loves AC, but he says he likes it because it's cheap, he likes the girls playful personalities, and their ability to speak English. But he also thinks the girls there are not that good looking. Or were you simply commenting that if the CJs girls were as poorly made up as the girls in AC, that they would be as ugly or uglier than the AC girls?

That's where locals go. The thing is just that in Jakarta, locals are the main market. So foreigners go to the places really built for locals. The closest thing to a foreigner-centered place like Nana or Fields Ave in Jakarta is Blok M and the hotel freelance scene. Both are overpriced and filled with old ladies. Same around Asia: they usually give us the leftovers.

I much prefer lower prices, better looking women, and straight forward situations. Other guys are looking for a temporary girlfriend to drink with them. I agree that for them, Thailand and the Philippines are better. And I hope most will stay there too, because I'd rather not see Jakarta prices inflate any further.

Only in an act of desperation after 3 am when you don't have a girl yet should you venture to My Bar these days. There are, at times, a few quality girls who do hit My Bar after 3 am.

Judging from your posts, you would have been in heaven at Blok M 15 to 20 years ago when it was off the hook. I used to spend almost every night there it was so good. Now, I don't even consider going there. But years ago, there were lots of young girls, it was not expensive, and it was damn fun. We would hit Top Gun after work and there would already be lots of girls there by 6 pm. You could take one back for a short time, then come back to the Blok for round two at Oscars (Oscars was just up the road from Top Gun and was two stories with a live band). If you didn't find a girl at Oscars by 2am, you could hit Lintas Melawai (which was awesome) around the corner at the Hotel Melawai and didn't close until the sun came up. The memories of the old days are why there was a "fuss" about Blok M. It was the most awesome place in Southeast Asia in the 90's and early 2000's (along with Tanamur) as far I am concerned. Now it sucks and Tanamur is gone. You simply may have discovered Jakarta too late.

High Society in AC is obviously catering to a different market, a different sex tourist, it's a sex town not one of the most important cities in SEA, but it's 27 k IDR per beer.

Spend a few days in Jakarta indulging in cheap pussy in North Jakarta, then head to Thailand or the Philippines for an extended period.

I will in Jakarta next week for a couple of days. I was there last year and stayed a all seasons Gajah Mada. I went to Malio / classics / found some friends on Tinder and Indo cupid. I lost all those contacts.

Planning to go back to all seasons again, any other recommendation in the same area? Also if anyone has independent ladies' contact they can share will be great as I don't have lot of time to search and find this time.

I have very little interest in the brothels up north even though there are young girls there. I also agree that Bangkok is far superior to Jakarta for hanging out in pubs that are cheap. However, I can pick up a hot young 21 year old girl in the mall in Jakarta and keep her with me for a month or more. I have never done that in Bangkok.

It's a shame Blok M died out because it was my favorite place in Asia. It was cheap in every way including drinks and girls, had young girls, and the girls did not negotiate a price. They knew they were going to get 300 k for the night without fail. Blok M died out mainly because most of the oil company expats who frequented Blok M got sent out of town.
